There are many company sites in Calgary, and which one you work at will make a huge difference in how well you like working for the company. The staff is all great, no matter which site you work at, but the customers are totally different between every site. A typical day is renting storage units, collecting rent and selling packing supplies. When each unit is vacated, I have to clean it out to get ready for the next person.... and most of the time that involves just sweeping the dust off the floor. There are times when the customers can get a bit cranky over something, but most of the time the issues are easily fixed. It's a pretty low-stress and satisfying position most of the time. I love talking to the customers, the majority of them are great people and I know many of them by name. The work/home balance is great because we don't work nights, holidays or Sundays. This is the best job I have had, and I plan on staying with the company for many years to come. 

I worked with Storagemart for 6 years and I'm so grateful for them. I was always very proud of the locations they have around London and the management staff there taught me a lot of useful skills and gave me excellent life lessons I still use to this day. 

An average day, once you get the swing of things, is dealing with customers who would like to rent a unit or buy moving supplies. Deal with any current tenant issues, which were far and few between. Clean around the building when needed amongst other simple tasks here and there. Lock up, turn off the lights and head home on a job well done.

The wages are set a bit low, however, an incredible benefits package is included to full-time employees, as well as RRSP matching, plus more.

There are plenty of reasons to take a look at what Storagemart has to offer. It really was a great company to work for.

All reservations are done on line. Very little to do when customer shows up. Locations have the worst internet connection so a 5 min check in could take half an hour on a good day. Everyone’s trained different, never the same answer twice. No guidance.  No A/C or heat in offices. Extreme temperature to deal with in the office. No access to water other than the bathroom sink. Tiny RV like fridges. Schedules are done weekly. No advanced scheduling. Never get 2 days off in a row. On call 24/7, get random calls from online call center from random US numbers with no name. Lots of holes in units causing water and snow damage.  Maintenance people are over sensitive and can not  take direction to fix problems efficiently.  District manager has problems maintaining focus and is all over the place.  Human Resources is out of Ontario. Extremely rude and not helpful at all. 


I rent storage space, collect rent, keep the store stocked with packing supplies and handle customer issues. I have become much better at multi-tasking, organizing and prioritizing what needs to be done. I am in and out of the office all day which is very enjoyable on a nice day to spend time outside. It can get a bit crazy at times since I spend a lot of time working alone and you can't be in two places at once!! In all honesty, this is the most satisfying job I have had, and the majority of the satisfaction is the great management staff. My store manager and regional manager are both great people who are VERY open to helping you solve any problem that comes up. The only downside is the hourly wage, it should be more for all the responsibility and work... especially when a lot of the time I am working alone.

StorageMart offers flexibility to balance life. But that's about it for the pros. Company has poor management, poor communication, and feels very low class. Decisions are never taken with the interest of the front staff. Management (including the executives) run the company like a circus. There is barely any room for growth so you end up feeling stifled. The salary is pathetic and below standard of living. They seem to get off on seeing their employees struggle, while splurging money on rubbish elsewhere. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. Find a place that treats you better. 

Much of the day consisted was a mix of both working with customers and maintaining the grounds. There were only two employees working in the office, unfortunately I was unable to work along with the manager. She was not positioned well for the job, and was not willing to take any advise or help from others. However the mix of both being in the office and outside was a nice way to break up the day and help to stay busy. Unfortunately there was not always work to be done and there were slow periods of work, this job did not call for two full time workers, one full time, and one part time would have been more than sufficient to complete the necessary tasks.

The management and HR are very exclusive and judgmental. They have a clique in the Durham area and they are not nice people. It is an extremely stressful and toxic environment for both workers and customers. The company expects its workers do do a lot, take on a lot of responsibilities and not pay very well for it all- light duties include sweeping and washing floors inside every building, as well as every rental unit once vacated, shoveling snow, gardening, minor repairs, washing every door and wall and bathroom maintenance, inventory, banking, sales, collections and garbage removal is also required. All for minimum wage.

The customers and coworkers are amazing, but the rate of pay for the job that is expected in too low, there are way too many physical duties expected for upkeep of the buildings, banking and petty cash, as well as office duties and sales, inventory and collections. Since everyone who is not a manager is an assistant manager with the same responsibilities as the manager, you also watch someone else collect your commission. Unfair compensation balances!

Ususally steady paced, most co workers are great. i learned the job quickly. some customers are very rude but i learned to deal in a professional manor. the hardest part is being away from home. my kids are starting to act out and my oldest has been getting very sick tot he point its very concerning with her ongoing medical problems. i need a work from home job to be able to take better care of my children.
