Strike

So Far this is the worst company I've ever worked on, they're thinking of expanding in the alberta construction and they're hiring all kinds of discipline people, this company has leaders within the company that will do anything to positions themselves in the growing company, and will hire all the people they know from the industry but they don't have any clue how to do it right.  The most dis-organized company in Alberta.  These people will do anything just to get a job,  the worst organization I've ever seen, they're promoting themselves as equal opportunity and will hire people just to use them and dumped them in a heart beat just to hire their relatives they don't have any experience in the field of construction but promoting themselves as leader in the construction industry.  Beware they're hiring all kinds of project managers, and supervisor even though they haven't got any job to put them into,  they will only use them to show the future clients that they've got people and they can't even win any decent job, and even if they'll win one, that doesn't mean they've earn it, they don't even know how to win a job.  be aware!!

A friend and myself were hired last February with the promise of lots of work, long term employment. A few days apart we were both told that work was winding down and they were parking some of the machines. He showed up and got his hoe going, had the tailgate and was just starting to walk his machine in when he had another employee come up and say he was taking over the hoe. He went to the forman and was told sorry the other guy was late and they needed him to get the hoe ready, sorry but you are not needed anymore. Four days later i was approched by my forman and he said they were done with my hoe, shut it down and head to camp. I forgot my coffee cup in it so i headed back to get it and found another guy getting ready to jump in the hoe. After a half hour on the phone with the guy that hired us i finally got it out of him that we were hired to fill seats to cover guys days off. 
Don't waste your time with these guys.

Although my job can be highly stressful most of the time, I receive full support from the other BD team members (not to mention other Strikees).
I love that Strike supports and sponsors myself and other Strikees for their personal passions (mine being darts!).  Strike does so much good work with and for the community - we even have our own "Social-lites" group which organizes events for team building and charities.
I've learned so much from working at Strike, I don't really know where to start!
I think the hardest part of my job is gathering information and documents for proposals so that nothing is left until the last day.
The most enjoyable part of my job is getting home to my family each evening and looking back on what I've accomplished during the day.

I enjoyed those i worked with and around, and the team environment that was offered.

The most enjoyable part of my job with Strike was the challenge it offered and how there was a challenge everyday. The feeling of satisfaction is wonderful.

generally the days are long hours but seem short there is always something to do. it can be quite dangerous but if you are aware of yourself and your surroundings things go smooth. the hardest part of the job is the labor at times but mostly enduring the weather conditions, the odd thing about that is, that those are also my favorite parts. i treat it like i'm constantly testing my body and mind. and no matter what kind of day you're having the people your work with are going through the same so its kind of like a band of brothers when your on a pipe line crew. everybody helps each other out

everyday was always the same, we would sit down before we started list the hazards and controls to be put in place.  i would assist the welders with setting up for the welds as well as during, be it fitting, preheating, buffing and grinding, to running to grab water, whatever they needed we fullfilled. most of the management was good there were a few in place that had me questioning things but all and all everyone was great. it was a fairly good environment were all trades men so we generally all get along but everyone butts heads eventually its just how you deal with it. hardest part of the job would be the travelling the best part would also be the travelling, seeing canada for free has been nice.

A day at work was helping a welder in his duties throughout the day.  mostly just handing tools over when asked, setting up the work or cleanup the job site. Seldom i was given lessons on stick welding,  i also learned how to use some specialty tools like a pipe beveller or different types of leveling tools.  management there was very on top of things and always knew who was going were.  Some of the people there were difficult to get along with but i typically only worked with one person whom i got along great with.  The hardest part of the job was the insanely long hours and all of the driving it took to get to the job site.  I enjoyed the friendly competition that the welders took part in.

Worst management I've seen to date, was hired and immiedately after starting work was given days off for no work and subsequently a couple days after that most of the new hires we're given temporary lay offs. Their hiring add is still up.
Zero transparency from worker to employer. Zero open door policy since it seems no one has a clue what's going on in the office.
Turn over rate is so high theres utter confusion up the management ladder of who does what and what their roles and responsibilities are.
Completely unprofessional and a bunch of scabs.
Just a total lack of respect and disregard for workers in general.

It is a culture of nepotism, favoritism and teachers pet. If you don't Briwn nose the manager in the way he or she likes they will demote you and cut your pay. Currently in the Crossfield location all management and supervisors are not qualified in any way to be in their positions. They place those who they find their favorites inquisitions higher than those with actual qualifications.  Unless you related to a manager, stay far far away.

As long as you don't care you'll fit right in. Don't try and do things right as it will be resented. Just do as you are told even if you know it is wrong, will have to be done again, and is a total waste of time. After all it's all by the hour , right? As long as you can stomach it no matter how painfull. The pay was pathetic and they know it, that's why they ask if you are going to quit if you find something better.
