I applied to both the team lead and floor staff. Received the floor staff role. It is hard work with long hours and I made money for a couple bills. HOWEVER, I want to warn others about this company's practices, specifically young and new Canadians.

Some Pros:
I met some great people there. Some of the leads and the employees from Toronto were chill and they appreciated the work that we did.

It is kind of nice to get first dibs on some product for myself, family and friends.

Cons: 
This is a company that knows loop holes. They will call you a contractor but treat you like an employee. This means that they can overlook employee specific rights. For example, here in Alberta, a contractor can set their own hours. Style Democracy has you working a fixed schedule, like an employee. 

THERE IS ALSO NO OVERTIME. "The standard overtime rule of hours worked in excess of 8 hours a day or 44 hours a week, whichever is greater, applies to construction employees." We were working up to 13 hour days and some people were working the whole week. 

IF you decide to still apply, do NOT give them full day blocks of your availability. They will give you 12 hour shifts, plan 8 hour days MAX to make sure they don't get free labor from you because once they have the schedule planned, it will be difficult to reschedule with your fellow staff members.

There is hardly any training and if there is, it is very quick. Please continue to ask you lead questions and make sure that you and your fellow workers are being told the same thing across the board.

There is very little communication on how you can get to the location. I would suggest the company take the time to make a map and make it available for the team.

TLDR: It is very easy to be exploited. But it is just as easy to know your rights. Whether you are young or new to Canada, you should Google your provinces labor laws and know the difference between a contractor and an employee. Just because we get a free water bottle and a red shirt doesn't mean that this company has you in their best interest. Overtime is ESSENTIAL and if you don't get it, don't put in those hours.

One of the most unprofessional companies I’ve worked for. I was scheduled for five days but only ended up working one shift. Within five minutes of starting, I was being criticized even though I hadn’t received any real training. Instead of being shown what to do, I felt like I was expected to already know everything.

I was sent home on my first shift and told I wasn’t a “good fit,” which felt unnecessary for what is essentially a temporary minimum-wage warehouse sale role. The situation felt more personal than professional.

The management structure seemed very disorganized — multiple people in charge but very little communication or direction. Some of the sales leads appeared inexperienced, which made the work environment frustrating and confusing.

From both an employee and customer perspective (I’ve attended several of their warehouse sales), the Vancouver operations seem poorly run. The work itself is straightforward but can be physically demanding, and the lack of organization makes it harder than it needs to be.

Overall, my experience was disappointing and not what I expectedit to be. 

It's a freelance event job. Most of your co-workers are great, and the management is hit or miss. The most irritating part of it is the disorganization, which I guess might be expected, but often for things that I felt should be reasonably expected to plan for. I think this event was when they first started using the homebase app, so I feel that they should have utilised it more for communication. Also, allowing us to clock out on our own phones for breaks and shifts would have been great, instead of having to line up at one single iPad.

The management team for Edmonton is disrespectful, disorganized, condescending and causes more problems than they create solutions.
There are clear and obvious recruitment and retention issues for a temporary position.
It reminds me of my old retail days that I don't miss and never want to return. I don't recommend working for the Edmonton team nor would I tell my friends about this opportunity.
Fine enough if you're desperate for a seven day payout, but be prepared for twelve hour days, highly abusive management with zero leadership accountability and nothing but chaos and disrespect.

They always gave a chance to newcomer. And i think that was best for my point of view.

Great environment, workers and staff very flexible hours.

It was a very full event lots of customers but amazing nonetheless

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would arrive there at 9:30 til closing at 10 or 10:30

we would work 12 hour days to set up and organize the products we receive. We were getting paid $11 when it should've been $11.40. They didn't really care about the workers as much as they should especially since the workers are ages from 35-60. It was and chill but exhausting .

Besides being treated horribly daily and spoken down to by the CEO, I was extremely undervalued and paid below minimum wage (while delivering above and beyond my job duties). It's been years since I've worked there and I'm still haunted by that place. I still have never been so happy to leave a job in my whole life.

-Have thick skin - be prepared to get yelled at by owner and event coordinator
-customers are really nice

-working really hard on the job
