Seasonal contract employment jobs are decent. Don't bother with permanent full-time. Pay is low vs non ski-hill equivalent positions, but management will argue it's in line with current trends. No structured pay ladder for length of service, positive employment reviews don't mean anything, no annual cost of living increase (manager actually laughed out loud at that one). When asked if Sun Peaks would increase pay after discussing similar positions paying more elsewhere, the response was “do what you have to do. This mountain isn’t for everyone”. My wage after 2.5 years of employment was closer to minimum wage, than my probation wage starting with the resort.  Discussing wage with fellow employees is discouraged as new hires often attracted with better initial wages, while permanent full-time employees are told to be greatful for the quarters, nickes & dimes that come with “raises”. You don’t go to make money, the draw is the perk of ski & bike passes. 
Multiple levels of management are riddled with complacency, and a "that not how things are done in the ski industry" attitude. High turnover rate, HR is not your friend and will argue against you when speaking up.  Most departments run understaffed, yet still there’s not enough staff housing for number of positions the mountain needs filled. The mountain will prioritize running minimum manpower crews whenever possible. Often delaying the start of, or cutting short work contracts, leaving those in full-time year round positions to burn out. 
Poor work ethic is hardly corrected as even most supervisory staff are also seasonal and hold no real accountability. Most other business on the mountain paysame or better so there isn't much fear for termination based on performance (minus lift passes+staff accommodation, although some have started to offer these as well). Especially when the “I’m leaving in 6 weeks” attitudes kick in near the end of seasonal contracts.  This compounds the burn-out of full time permanent staff who are left to pickup the pieces.

TDLR: Average pay, minimal accountability, fun for a season or two. Non-residents and foreign work Visa’s, research and know your rights as an employee in the province of British Columbia.


Sun Peaks is a great place to work with great management systems in place and wonderful friendly staff, however, could use a few modern upgrades such as a new top of the world warming hut and a specific hut for the park crew to keep their tools and to hang out in. It seemed this year that the higher ups management team (my boss's boss) was a bit tight on the fun that could be had at work, which sucked. Strictly business, no fun or laughing or joking around. Maybe it was the weather this year? There is also a HUGE need for more staff housing in the area and less enormous homes that sit empty for the entire year either than Christmas/New Years and March break. These were mostly just the negatives, sorry for that. Sun Peaks is a great place to work for all in all that's why I rated it 4/5 stars!

The management totally sucks.  They use and abuse you.  They bank on a lot of foreign workers who like to ski will work for cheap.  Although  It is cool.  A premium ski resort and so no doubt you can have a lot of fun.   If you snowboard or ski or downhill mountain bike or golf you get a seasons pass for that.  They lay off most staff in between the winter ski season and summer mountain bike and golf season.   The entire kitchen management at Sun Peaks Grand Hotel generally walks out every 3 or 4 years.   A good place to spend a working ski or snowboard or golf and downhill mountain bike holiday.  Bad place to build a career.   Or maybe not but it's tough.

Most of the staff are good people to work with, but I can't say that management is run the best. From my experience, they hire inexperienced people for management positions and they make quite a few errors when it comes to pay-roll. The hardest part of the job was getting let go for being the only person who knew how to do the job properly.

In my 35 plus years of working this place was the WORST. I was hired as a Kitchen Supervisor. This was supposed to be a full time year round position. It was neither. Management is poor. Coworkers were intimidated by the General manager of the Lodge. A poor working environment, who gave no encouragement to grow, or input what you may have learned in your life's experiances.

It was a great job to help keep a balance, indoor (warm) great coworkers, the kids were awesome, amazing snowboarding, great night life, all the parents were super accepting and helpful, my boss was amazing and i was able to function at an acceptable pace, (mentally & physically)

The lifestyle is why you work here. It’s definitely not for the money. Skiing, boarding, biking, while on shift sometimes is quite amazing, not to mention working in the beautiful area of Sun peaks.

 Loads of opportunity to grow into a career as the turnover is quite high. Many opportunities present themselves quickly, and climbing the ladder is not hard.

Lots of fun benefits of working up here for a season or two. Management is kind of a mess though. I got hired with no interview and had to relocate for the job so it seemed half sketchy. Very minimal communication goes on with management. Turn over rate for managers seemed high during my time there too which was a whole other mess. 

Managers disappear for hours at a time, leaving the responsibility on the seasonal staff. Poor communication between managers, leaving confusion for the staff and often times toxicity in the workplace. The co-workers make it a great place to work, as well as the free seasons pass and discounts on food. 

They take Care of their workforce.



Typical day is set up the restaurant, have a team meeting discussing safety or any issues.
