The most enjoyable part of the job is people which includes both customers and staff. The number of relationships I have built with our clients is impressive! We do not have any name tags on our uniform but it is so incredible when clients recognize your voice over the phone, remember your name and say that you have made their day. Recently someone told me that it is always like fresh air in their day to go to SunScape and see me working here :) When it comes to staff, both employees and management are drama free and strive for healthy workplace environment, which I fully respect. 

The hardest part of the job is I think training. I do not mean to make training look like something extremely impossible to learn but it does require some effort to memorize all the information if you are new to the industry! However, I love the idea that a trainee's mentor is there to answer all the questions (there is no such a thing as a stupid question!) and guide you through procedures and policies once again when needed.

Management is highly supportive and reasonable. I honestly receive so much help and support when needed, they are here for you, so not sure where all the previously shared negative reviews come from. 

Last but not least, this job has boosted my confidence, enlarged my world vision, taught me not to assume and ask open questions! Tanning is fun. Working in the tanning industry is fun. SunScape is fun!

The worst job I’ve ever had. There’s absolutely no respect from management or head office to their employees. When you get hired they make a lot of false promises about how many hours you’ll be working, expected commissions, etc. You make minimum wage, your schedule is constantly changing, you have to PAY to receive training (for a class that is free to do online), you do not receive overtime pay or get any kind of break (you’ll always be working on your own, no time for a meal or even bathroom break). There’s no such thing as a sick day, if you can’t find someone to cover your shift they make you come in. Absolutely no work life balance. They’ll add shifts or change your hours without discussing it with you or even letting you know. There’s very little salon staff can do to fix customer issues, you direct them to head office for them to then wait for weeks for a response, if they even get one. Salon staff constantly get yelled at about head offices poor communication and unethical business practices. There are some staff that are great, however, the vast majority are cliquey, rude and unprofessional. They’re constantly hiring for a reason, they cannot keep staff because of the toxic environment. 

When you first start you have to pay 60$ for training with the beds.. But getting this training could take months.. Or never at all. And then when you move on And still haven't gotten the training you don't get that money back. New owners are all about themselves. You will hear about every single thing you do "wrong" but will not hear praise for what you do well with like an amazing sale or taking leadership for your store. Trying to take time off because your sick? Well it's your problem apparently not the manager they will tell you to figure it out for yourself- regardless of how sick you are. Super easy work but boring boring boring working atmosphere the one good thing is you can call girls at other salons to talk. Other than that your alone your entire shift.

And commissions? You need to complete a sales form (ie sell X amount of packages and lotions etc THEN you will recieve commisions after that had been approved) which is sort of silly and hey if you go for it just make sure you ask about this form because they may choose to not tell you about it so you can't keep track of what your selling..making it extra hard to even get that commission.

This job was incredibly frustrating. You’re expected to work alone almost every shift, no matter how busy it gets, and there’s no support from upper management. Even when sick or during extreme weather, you're still expected to show up or find your own coverage — no flexibility at all.

Getting paid properly was a constant battle. Vacation pay wasn’t provided without multiple follow-ups after leaving the job, and holiday pay was non-existent. The commission system was rarely paid out, making it feel more like a gimmick than a real incentive.

There’s little to no appreciation for hard work, and communication from the owners is practically nonexistent — especially when it comes to handling customer complaints. Frontline staff are left to deal with everything, while higher-ups stay completely removed.

The only redeeming aspects were the free tanning and a few great coworkers. Otherwise, it's a minimum wage job with high expectations and very little in return.



I was very sad when I moved and had to resign at this wonderful company.  They've been in business for over 15 years I think, and I was proud to work here.  The girls I worked with are great, they have all sorts of commission and bonus opportunities that get paid every month, the clients were amazing (well most of them) and I made a lot of really great friends via this job.  Although I wasn't able to commit full time, if I had there were a lot of possibilities for advancement and to receive training from their many higher level managers.  I actually used a lot of the things I learned here at my other job and in school.

I may even go back and work here one day should circumstances allow.

The owners are a nightmare, this job could easily be a great one if they knew how to run a company. You think after being open 20+ years they would have it figured out but they really don’t. They constantly are over working and gaslighting their staff and frankly their customers too. They force you to do all their dirty work and won’t hesitate to terminate you wrongfully for standing up for your self. You got to put up with all of this for only minimum wage and no holiday or overtime pay. Their business model is a scam and you have to deal with the brunt of it from the clients they can’t keep happy. Overall… this place is a nightmare. 

SunScape is a great place to work especially if you have an interest the tanning industry - this family run business has become a leader in the BC tanning industry. They keep up to date with their equipment, and offer multiple services like UV, red light and spray tanning.  I loved coming into a place where myself and my coworkers felt pride in the place we work. The flexible scheduling made it a convenient place to work while I went to school. 

One of my favourite jobs!

I enjoyed working here, it’s a great place for someone who is in school, or just wanting to get into a fun salon type environment!  I typically like to stay busy while I'm working, so I always found something to do and it was usually to clean the salon during slower times. There is potential to advance and go beyond an associate by becoming a manager.

My job duties while I was there -  answered phones, managed front desk, product knowledge, booked appointments, cleaned beds, and sold packages/memberships.

Sunscape is the worst place to work. You have to PAY for training over there.
You get paid a minimum of $15.50 and management promises you are going to make more for commission sales but never did enough. 
They leave you alone in your shift so you never have a break to eat or even go to the bathroom without being at the front desk AND closing shifts until 10:30PM.
Overall, very demanding job and not paid well.

You have to PAY to be trained to work for them. Work completely alone, without proper training, no breaks, and are watched by 5 cameras just in a single lobby. SO BORING. Even if you are throwing up sick, you must come to work. The business model/ packages youre supposed to sell are extremely hard to stand behind as you're totally aware of what a scam they are. They don't care about customers or employees, owners hide behind an email and are totally unreasonable.. DO NOT WORK HERE.
