Sunglass-Hut

I had a fantastic experience working for Sunglasshut in Alberta. My manager was inspiring and i felt like she really wanted to help me succeed. The regional manager was one of the kindest and hardest working individuals that i have ever met. Then I relocated to Ontario due to my fathers failing health and was lucky enough to be transferred. My experience in Toronto has been dissapointing. I felt like i was not valued as a member of the management team, or even an employee. The culture was much more toxic here then i had expected. Upper management has straight out said that part-timers don't matter because they don't dedicate their time to Sunglasshut, even though i feel like many of the store's success are built on part-timers. As a person that believes in serving your employees first and letting them serve your customers it was a big shock. The stores themselves had more of a competitive attitude instead of cooperative, it felt cut throat. Also on top of that i was ver disappointed by loss prevention's reaction to staff experiencing robberies. I felt like the focus was not on if the staff was ok or not, but what they could have done more to prevent the situation. 
Don't get me wrong though, there is still a lot of advantages to working for Sunglasshut. There also are many wonderful people and staff still there, and Toronto does have a wonderful Regional manager. I think that the situation would improve with better management that don't rule by fear, but empower and encourage by example.
This has just been my personal experience and i hope that the culture will change for the better.

A typical day at work would consist of me dealing with customers and their needs in accordance to the details about certain sunglasses (newest models), I would consult with these customers face to face or over the phone interaction. I learned that everyone customer was unique in their own way, everyone has different needs, this was exactly the type of challenge I liked: helping me develop my communication skills in more depth. The management at Sunglass Hut was very employee friendly, they provided me with a schedule that worked around my schedule when I was attending university courses during my last 2 years at Sunglass Hut. The hardest part of the job was trying to find lunch breaks for myself at times, considering the fact that sometimes I had to open and close the store by myself, but I still managed and got through this stage, and overtime it became very natural to me. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with other employees that were as motivated as I was in meeting the customer's needs in the it's fullest potential. On a side note: I enjoyed building a professional relationship with my customers, it made happy every time I called them to hear them say that they were satisfied with their new products.

•	Honesty, Integrity, Respect and a positive work ethic are an important part of the organization. 
•	Training store staff by reviewing and revising orientation to products and sales training materials; delivering training sessions; reviewing staff job results and learning needs with retail store manager; developing and implementing new product training.
•	Making sure the store meets its monthly targets and handling budgets
•	Dealing with enquiries and complaints and monitoring customer service to serve customers as needed.
•	 Running the store under minimal supervision and ensuring all goals and objectives are met.
•	Attracts customers by originating display ideas; following display suggestions or schedules; constructing or assembling prefabricated display properties; producing merchandise displays in windows and showcases, and on sales floor.
•	Promotes sales by demonstrating merchandise and products to customers.
•	Preparing sales and customer relations reports by analyzing and categorizing sales information; identifying and investigating customer complaints and service suggestions.
•	Maintains inventory by checking merchandise to determine inventory levels; anticipating customer demand.

My day started with counting inventory and ensuring we are properly stocked for the day. I learned how to multi-task in a very overwhelming environment. I had overwhelming moments which I would describe as the hardest part of the job when people tried to steal from Sun Glass Hut. It was up to the employees to prevent this from happening and because -believe it or not- a lot of people actually try to steal fashion sunglasses however with the help of my team mates and security in the mall I was able to prevent this situations. 
The workplace culture and environment was amazing. I truly loved going to work every day, especially when we received new exclusive products and we got to try them on before they hit the floor. Fun stuff!

The most enjoyable part of the job for me was connecting with people and building relationships. Through the 3 years I was there I built quite a few long term relationships that I still have to this day and I am regretful that I was able to encounter such amazing people thanks to working at Sunglass Hut.

SGH is hands down the best company I have ever worked for. The job is great if building relationships with your clients is your thing! You get a lot of one-on-one time with each client, and providing the most information to benefit your customer (no scamming or lying to your clients to make a sale). The incentives for ALL staff are amazing & your successful performance is always recognized. If you aren’t successful (which at SGH if you try, you will be) you have a huge support system behind you to help you improve. 

They put time, effort into every single person they hire (regardless of position) & they put a huge emphasis on recognition and support. The RM in my region is a fantastic human being; she wants you to be successful, is always available for help and support but is hands off enough that allows you to do the job you were hired to do. The region’s fellow store managers are always in constant contact (group chat), extremely personable and supportive from the day you join. 20/10 would highly, highly recommend. 

They ask you to do a lot for a basically minimum wage job. There's tons of theft, shoplifters are starting to get dangerous and the company does nothing. Shoplifting happens almost every day. 

Unrealistic sales goals; when it's off season there are days with no sales. Expect very boring days.

Manager changes schedule without asking/the night before. I had a coworker have their shift changed 20 mins before they were expected to start.
Constant training; they expect you to know everything about every single pair of glasses. Training is just videos/online but sometimes they'll ask you to do it at home and not pay. 
Commission rates are super low, 1-3% depending on sales, but they rarely pay it. I've only been paid commission once since working there, and I had to ask them to pay me what I made in commission. 
Store is poorly organized.
Customers are rude and expect professional adjustments on glasses even though we are not professionally trained to provide that service. 

Easy job for students since most of the time you just show up and there's nothing for you to do, but not worth it due to the low pay, lack of work culture, ect. 

A typical working day at Sunglass Hut would always involve providing clients with excellent service to assist them in purchasing the best glasses and accessories for their specific needs and lifestyle. As well throughout the day the occasional pep talk from the manager and the occasional maintenance and inventory checks of the glasses and accessories on the sales floor. 
Working with Sunglass taught me the importance of professionalism both in composure and communication, as well as a small glimpse of what a corporate environment may look like. Beginning with the way you dressed to how you communicated with others of different backgrounds and career levels. 
The most enjoyable part of Sunglass Hut by far was working with an incredible team of talented and motivating individuals who collectively helped to make the work environment a fun and energetic place where clients would truly enjoy the experience we provided them.

A typical day at work included opening tills calculating inventory as we did every morning and night before closing , and providing an amazing shopping experience for our customers as we are selling high priced and high fashion sunglasses. I was to make sure that all customers were satisfied and that they were going to be a repeat customer. I also made sure that our whole team was on top of sales by monthly coaching figuring out what approach they are taking and how we can improve. I enjoyed the people I work with they were very eager to learn and work as I tried my best to make their work experience fun . Hardest part of my job was to maintain a budget and to come up with interesting ways to increase the volume of customers. Most enjoyable was meeting a lot of new people and helping them out with a stylish pair of sunglasses, customers usually asked for my opinion on their glasses and usually trusted my suggestions and compliments.

Working at Sunglass Hut can be a very rewarding experience. There is a huge focus on making interpersonal connections with the guests that wander into the store, with an emphasis on not being pushy, rather to genuinely listen to the clients, getting to know them and finding out their needs.
The hardest part of the job is easily when guests aren't interested in talking, which can also be the most rewarding once you've been able to allow them to open up just enough to actually help them.
A typical day includes basic store duties and essential team growth coaching. With a majority focus on customer relations. 
Largest qualm I have with the job is the instability of scheduled hours. However it's a retail job, and as lower management it's a requirement to be flexible, which is fine, although it would be nice to have some more structure. Regardless this is on me and I was aware of this when before I started.

Sunglass Hut typical day at work consists of basically running through the customer experience over and over again with each customer we welcome. It is an exciting process because along the way, one can get to know a lot of people and also make some friends along the way. 

Sunglass hut has taught me to keep it simple and SMART!

Managing the Store is simple but there are days that a TO DO list can go on for 2 or 3 pages.

There is nothing Hard about working at sunglass hut. In fact, there is a lot of excitement when I go to work. If I didn't enjoy it or found it hard, I would've left it the day after I started it. 

I enjoy working on Saturdays when I have most of my team on the floor. The amount of attention and attraction we create in our store when we are working together makes our customers excited about our product.
