Great training given, no doubt about it, they don't miss anything out. 
Very good strong upper Management, they are confident, helpful & mostly as  supportive as possible within their powers.

This is where it stops.  For gods sake....JOIN A UNION..... Your life can be made a misery if you don't watch your step in the lower echelons. I have NEVER experienced & witnessed such a shockingly high turnover of staff in my whole working life. It's pitiful & soul destroying. Such good staff,  simply lost to competitors & "other opportunities".

Not a single care assistant in the high Dementia Unit seem to want to stay, all seem so miserable & demotivated.  Its sad, as no real joy exists.  This is swiftly  stifled by negative  feedback & harsh criticisms in an already difficult working environment. Barely any positivity or recognition delivered.
 Not many staff  last very long, as they  vote with their feet & walk out of the door.
Unless you are highly favoured, why work under constant stress & fear.

 It's such a huge pity, because Sunrise benefits are great, the training is good, Great upper Management folk. Many very talented & caring individuals work there, which is wonderful as you can learn a lot from them.
 
Always short staffed & heavily reliant on agency staff, as many homes are, of course !  So, a great business opportunity if you are a good quality agency worker.

It is a very fast paced environment where you are always thinking ahead. Your time management is very important. You are always learning, there is no such thing as a boring day because you never experience the exact same thing everyday. The management has done a very good job. It is a very difficult place to be in. It can be stressful but they are always there to put everyone's needs first as a priority. Coworkers you need to be able to work with as a team. You need to be understanding and respectful. Coworkers at sunrise were fun but focused. We learned how to work with eachother so we could benefit the residents and their families. We learned how to appreciate the bad days because you learn from them. At the end of the day the hardest part is saying goodbye. You never know what to expect at your next report. You need to be heavy hearted and mindful to what you expect the next day to be like. You enjoy getting to know the residents, their likes and dislikes, how to accommodate them in their lives. You learn privacy and information protection. You learn how to be a friend and a caregiver at the same time, and you learn your job is not always considered a job when you enjoy it. You develop a family and it really gives meaning to "do unto others as you would have done to yourself.". 
It's a good place to expand your learning in health care. You work long hours but they go by fast when you keep yourself busy, which tends to be easy. Everyday is a new and exciting day that can be challenging but to appreciate it you need to enjoy the ups and downs.

Underpaid and overworked. Very poor management. No communication. Constant turnover as no one wants to work there. Hours vary from 5 shifts a week to 0 if part time. No gratitude for your hard work. Co-workers run to management and complain about other workers. You cannot trust anyone because they might be nice to your face but talk about you behind your back and make you look like you arent doing your job. You're expected to be in 5 places at once as there is never enough staff on hand. They just put the minimum amount of people on the floor and are often short-staffed which makes your huge work load even bigger. Must rush residents and not have any conversations with them so you can groom, dress, bath, feed them as soon quick as possible. You'll definitely hear it if you took longer than 10 min to do all of this. Feel extremely bad for residents as they pay thousands of dollars a month to live there and dont get the care they pay for or need. Be prepared to get yelled at not only by some residents but their family and management if you do not make it to their room within 10 min. Even if you have 5 other residents to get to first, it does not matter. All company cares about is profits not their employees and most importantly residents. Just a negative place all around except for the some residents and a few genuinely nice co-workers. Would not recommend working here.

Two faced management that will treat you well one minute if you wish to be treated like a work horse with no overtime and no proper training, or flat out fire you without cause if you stick up for yourself.

Work environment and company as a whole cares almost entirely about appearance - staff are poorly trained, unprofessional and miserable (and miserable to new recruits - belittling them as well as the residents). Company management is non existent. If they have an issue with you or your work, you'll never know it until they get rid of you because they don't take the time to communicate.

Company's entire drive is $$ who see residents not as patients but cash cows and staff as work horses. You can tell this immediately as they reward staff with prizes for having "x" many move ins, etc. Focus is not on residents well being but how much cash they can make the company.

In terms of quality of care, it is poorer than a public facility, with one nurse for over 100+ residents and care staff that do not respect residents and disconnected management that does not respect staff - for 4K-10k a month--- you will do better to place your loved ones anywhere else. Do not work for these people if you have any self respect.

The majority of workers are nice but the management are very unprofessional and condescending to the point of exhibiting bullying and harassment. There is no support and they do not follow their mission statement of ‘assuming the best of intentions.’ They don’t help you work to improve the obstacles of the aging residents and your job gets harder, they expect more, and they are more prone to criticize than tell you that you’re doing a great job when you are. The coworkers end up having to rely on each other a lot to get things done properly or the routine is otherwise just done adequately. It is a toxic place to work and the Sunrise workplace structure is in place but management has ruined its exemplary reputation. The work environment is full of gossip from staff amongst themselves and management amongst themselves. Management doesn’t give anything of value to your work day when they hype that they are going to give you something great.

Daily I reviewed the activity schedule to collaborate with co-workers in and with the activities planned for the day. In addition, I planned and organized therapeutic activities such as cognitive games, physical exercises, and social talking groups according to client/resident's needs to engage them in socialization and leisure interaction to have fun, and enhance their quality of life.
I learned to be patience and showing each resident respect, empathy, warm, and being genuine to establish a good relationship and communication. I am a person-centre, therefore I pay attention to each individual to assisted and supported to fulfill his/her needs and well-being.
As a team player I like and offer to collaborate with co-workers, as well as having a good and clear communication for a better understanding and to support each other for the benefit of our residents/client. Also, I am able to work independently as well.

My first year with the company was good. Everyone was nice and easy to work with even after probation. Even during the pandemic we were patient with each other and trying to help out and lift spirits where we could.

2021 was where it got hard. My coordinator left as there was tension with their management and we didn't have a dept head for a month. Then our new coordinator came and seemed very promising but instead was very hands off, disorganized,  leaves tasks half finished, micromanage, just not a good manager at all...
I left as the management in general got more toxic than what it was. Very one sided when you bring up concerns and conflicts with staff. When I resigned, they walked me out as if I got fired 2 days before my last day and I didn't even punch in yet (I drove for 30 mins to get to work). Sure they paid me for that day but it was so low of them to do that.

If they had better management I would've stayed longer as the work life balance, pay and benefits were wonderful to have especially as a newlywed.

I worked for sunrise for two years and thought this would be the place i would grow my career. Needless to say it was not. i started as a dishwasher, a cook, a coordinator, a care manager, then laid off for lack of better terms. I was extremely disappointed in the management at multiple locations where i worked. The coordinators gossiped and talked about the residents and staff in an unprofessional manner.  The majority of the work falls on the underpaid and overworked staff. The management is always saying they hired new people but the staffing does not reflect it. The biggest problem is communication.
The good would be the family atmosphere that the front line employees create. The overall care to the residents would be the best I have seen in a long time but the staff can not do their best with sub par materials or staff. I wish the coordinators could work the front line jobs for a month to really get an idea of what they are asking of the staff.

My day begins at 6:30a.m.
Physical check of all residents.
Some preparation of breakfast & meds.
Getting all residents out of bed ... using a Hoyer if necessary ... showering them if scheduled.
Some days beginning the wash of bedding/rooms.
Finish making breakfast ... then serving.
Continued administration of meds.
Cutting/styling hair.
Nail trimming. 
Lunch prep and serve.
Communication with my administrator ... needs of the home and residents.
Communicating with nurses, social workers, physical therapists.
Dinner prep and serve.
Always housecleaning.
Communication with my co-worker is very important ... & sometimes face-to-face is a whole lot better than a note.
Listening to & comforting the residents.
Sometimes, my day ends at 7:30p.m.
My greatest sense of accomplishment comes when I can incorporate new residents and still get things done.

Overall it’s a lot of work for low pay  The management isn’t the best it’s hard to voice  an opinion as the managers priorities are placed on other things  they don’t listen to staff concerns. Unless you’re  full time you aren’t getting much hours I’ve gotten maybe 4-5 shifts a month at one point as a part time
Worker which is not enough to sustain anybody. The company over hires people with the impression that shifts will be given but NONE ARE if I would've known before I wouldn’t have accepted the position.... once your hired shifts might open but will be taken away due to low resident count but if the company didn’t over hire employees there wouldn’t be a reason to cut anyone’s hours ... it’s just a circus of miscommunication and unreliable workers 

Lead care managers are amazing but I believe the amount of work they do between overseeing other care managers, transfers, feeding, doing care, working the dining they deserve more recognition.
