Sunshine Village

It’s easy to move up in this company, because no one wants to stay. If you’re willing to return season after season you will be offered a promotion. This results in poor people working in management roles just due to the fact that they are willing to stay and put up with the garbage that comes along with working at this place. Everyone is miserable, owners and management do not have any concept on how to keep employees happy and satisfied. This company needs to realize that if you do not take care of the staff and invest in them, they will run this business into the ground. Seems to be the way things are going. By the way, pay your staff more… managers and supervisors making less than 20$ an hour is a joke in a tourism town. Staff accommodation has no formal cooking facilities and is very isolated, resulting in poor mental health for employees for the 8 month long season. Many things need an overhaul here, and when someone comes in who wants to make it a better place, the company puts up so many brick walls to keep things going the horrible way they already are and ensure nothing gets done- ever. 

Not sure why Im being asked to review a Canadian ski resort, but anyway Ill get the bad bits out of the way first. Everyone is there for one reason: to ski or snowboard as much as they can. Unfortunately my hours working were only during the lift opening times, and as ride breaks were very seldom granted, it didnt mean much riding time. The management was also a bit unorganised and people can be fired for very little reason. However my manager was a lot of fun and she did the most she could for us poor ski bums. Everyone I worked with was fantastic, and you cant beat working up in the mountains surrounded by nature and the best snow in the world. Employee perks were excellent too, free lift pass, the best staff pass in terms of free days at other resorts (including Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, Fernie, Big White, even Whistler), staff parties at Trappers bar, free days for mates and family, discount at the stores and for ski hire and lessons.

Sing songs with kids in the morning and divide them by group ages. Start activities, such as water balloon fights, creating crafts, backing, creating a show for the parents in the end of each week.
I learned to interact with kids, help them and understand their needs. One of the weeks I had to take care of a Spanish girl that had just moved to Canada and didn't speak any English.
There wasn't a hard part of the job, I liked being all day with kids and having fun. 
This was a job where I volunteered so I just made the best out of it.

The reciprocals that come with working at SSV make this worth your while; especially as a seasonal employee! If you can get in a department where the hours are available, with a good supervisor, you'll likely return for seasons to come! Most people working at SSV are here for similar reasons which makes for a fun and social working environment and staff events are organised throughout the season to cater for a lot of different tastes! It's the friends, perks and location that make this a great place to work! :)

I found it a little difficult working at Sunshine, the pay is abysmal and the opportunities to move upward are very little. Management insists on a formal atmosphere despite it being a ski resort, to a ridiculous degree.

They do very little to support their staff beyond a ski pass, subpar staff accommodation, and staff appreciation days. They let go people I respected with zero warning and kept people who stole cash from tills.

Lot's of early mornings. Four stations to work at, Bourgeau, Curve, Goats Eye, and Drive. This is where you'll load equipment and freight. Daily log checks. You'll also scan tickets and do covid screening somedays. This calls for unfair scheduling and poor hours at times. Aside from management, the staff are pretty laid back. 

The team at Sunshine Village were extremely supportive to one another and always set each other up for success. Each team member could approach conflicts professionally and provide constructive feedback as well as praise when deserved. Sunshine Village is a fun and friendly environment I enjoyed working at.

Email groups looking to attend Sunshine for a ski trip, and coordinate with different departments to organize the trips. Great workplace culture, people are easy going, nice, and helpful. A true small family. Doesn't pay great for office staff.

As lift operators we got 2 hour lunch breaks so you can get lots of skiing in which is why we were there in the first place. The views are amazing and the customers are friendly. The supervisors and management were fun, the only downside was the pay...
