What is the best part of working at the company?
Great company to work for as they are very safety oriented and care about their employees and their opinions. They are also very organized and run good equipment which is a plus being a operator in the equipment all day 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It is good while it lasts but once the job is done or layoffs start as they start to come towards the end when you last day comes there’s no notice your just done and sent home which comes with the job in the oilfield that’s just the way it goes unfortunately 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There’s a lot of different people with a lot of difference attitudes and opinions so you can take it or you can’t but most people are all there for the same reasons so get along or move on 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fast paced and that’s a good thing it makes the days go by faster I enjoy the job and the people that I work with and enjoy what I do for a living

Typical day for me was show up, listen to our Super for 15 to 20 minutes and head out and do our job. Being here for 2 years taught me alot of knew skills that i will later continue using down the road! Most employees in the field were honest hard working people who took care of one or another and just wanted to do a good job but also make it a fun yet safe place to work! Management in the Office had high expectations which is understandable but they also had their favourites. For the most part though everyone is treated fairly and SMJV as a Company is a good place to work for all walks of life and holds alot of experience in the Industry which is good for motivated new comers looking to learn new skills. Like any company though there is your fair share of Drama or Politics but if you look passed that, you’ll find SMJV is a top notch outfit who does care about your Safety and have more than enough work to keep yourself busy if you’re motivated and show dedication.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The job pays well. They give you a hoodie for Christmas. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Horrible communication, with people put into management or supervisory job roles based off nepotism-not experience or qualifications. HR Management lacks honesty and integrity, and does not maintain confidentiality. Work-life balance does not exist. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fear-based culture makes job even more stressful than it needs to be. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long and often frustrating. Job satisfaction comes only from making a good wage. Dynamic tasks requiring completion throughout the day are not explained clearly. What was safety “policy” at 9am is no longer policy at 11am, and employees aren’t told, just written up and punished accordingly.

got hired here as a  young green hand the pay was good  but the work environment was so toxic people  from the higher ups (superintendent) and a foreman I despised to some  crew members who would try and belittle me because I had barely any knowledge in the field again which is normal as i was new to the industry so obviously I will be a little slow compared to them but  I have thick skin regardless so I didn’t make a commotion or anything the whole time I was there, but   met tons of toxic miserable people  who  would overwork me because I was “green” and just had  garbage pessimistic attitudes,  but also met some cool people who took me under there wing and helped all in all the company it self is great and organized but  it really depends who you’re working with as trust me a lot of these guys are miserable f**** with nothing going on in there life lol

What is the best part of working at the company?
SMJV makes you feel like you're part of a big family!  One of the best experiences I have had in my 25+ years in the industry.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Maintaining client commitments.  The SMJV Team ensured you have the support to meet those commitments, which eliminated any stress.  Lots of support in the field and at corporate level.

It's like your part of one big, happy family!  Great community support efforts too!

Arrive at work feeling confident that you will be successful at any task with the support of the SMJV Team.

They are a really good pipeline company. They are organized and have the resources to get the job done

Sometimes the long duration of staying in camp can be a bit stressful. But otherwise it's a good place to work

They have a good reputation for on time performance and safety which makes for a decent work culture 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There is no such thing as a typical day. Each day is unique

- Senior management is disorganized with no direction or training.
- fun environment but no one is held responsible for behaviour i.e. one of the younger employees was in an accident and to be sure insurance paid for the accident, they put the engineering managers name on the accident report.
- obvious favoritism with management, especially when it comes to bringing personnel from overseas
- lack of communication between departments and direction from the company

It's a pipeline company, working on big inch projects in Western Canada. It's a great place to work,  management is good and it would be perfect, except for two things. First they don't have a pension/RRSP program, which is uncommon amongst the other big inch companies and the pay doesn't make up for it. The second thing is the planning around long weekends. Working on the road, long weekends are a big deal because of the travel, and a lot of times you won't find out until that weekend. By that time it's too late to book tickets home, travel anywhere etc so you may as well work.

 observed that the company's management sometimes treated employees unfairly, which created an environment of inconsistency. It appeared that opportunities for growth and advancement were not equally accessible to everyone, and favoritism influenced decision-making. I believe the company could benefit from a more transparent and equitable approach to ensure that all employees are given a fair chance to succeed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

Pays well for the industry.
Not much work/life balance, often asked to work through days off to make up for poor organization/job execution.
Will tell you a timeframe for project duration, will end up only being about half that time.
Doesn't follow their own code of ethics. Supervision/management get to follow a different code of ethics than the workers do. Workers who speak out against supervision not following company policies get pushed out.
