No organization for a typical day at work.  Run around like a chicken with  a head cut off everyday. Top Management expects you too band aid old obsolete  equipment too keep production going everyday. No funding for the equipment ether so macgyver skills is a must. If all else fails the top brass just point there finger at you on why they couldn't make money.
The condition of the equipment is just sad.
Top brass have a elite attitude and treat blue collar workers as just expendable labor which is why the have a huge percentage of  turnover rate which is higher then any previous company  I work for in the past.
Culture is just toxic. A lot of drama often encouraged by top management .
Hardest part of the job is completing tasks with no funding for parts and tools. Plus given unrealistic deadlines cause the Gm watched a YouTube video....
Most enjoyable part was coworkers as some were quite good and fun too work with. Sad part is they often don't last long as they find other better opportunity's which I cant blame them for taking. 
Safety is a joke at this place which changes there slogan too " Safety is not a sure thing" which is commonly voiced by the workers there as they charge you off your pay for gear that should be supplied and often neglect fall arrest or forklift courses too young employees cause they can scare them in doing the job anyways.
Pay scale is just pathetic as they do not pay competing mechanics wages and despite owning over 25 grand in tools. I should be supplying the whole shop and consumable products according to them. Benefits are the usual bare minimum but instead of after 3 months. Its a year which the Management will neglect to remember without constant harassment. 
Best thing I did was leave this company. I would only ever take a job here if there is no other choice and ei was not a option.

I would not recommend working at surespan unless you have too.
No respect for skilled trades as they will belittle and treat you as a run of the mill labour.
Safety can be a huge concern if you don’t got a head on your shoulder too say no and can’t think for yourself.Safety is not a sure thing.
Management seems clueless  on whats going on and can be quite incompetent.
The pay scale is beyond atrocious for the cowichan valley( too many other businesses that pay way higher) nickname surescam for a reason.
Dirty tactics too keep employees down.
High turnover rate for a reason 

Plus side is they always seem to have work, and plenty of overtime available if needed. Standard Benefits after a year ( should be after 3 months) and you got too pay for your own safety gear. Safety.

Overall it was a proffesianlly managed company, allowed room for learning and shift supervisors we're helpful in sharing there knowledge. My biggest issue was there continued use of MCAW wire with the automated radiograph welders, as the controls had to be adjusted on the fly and arc flash was a serious ongoing issue. Management was unwilling to address these problems. Also it was not an all position wire and switching back and forth between the single role wire feeders probably caused less production. In my opinion the strong all position weldability of the fluxcore wire and the far less frequency of arc flash with it just made a more versatile,productive, and safer choice for the given applications of welding portable steel Bridges. 

Belittled by incompetent management who do not take the time to listen or understand the project or situation. Will put blame on you for there unrealistic dreams and demands. Pay is extremely on the low end and no benefits till after a year. But even then, you have to annoy the neglectful gm to give those benefits after probation. Expect a-lot for not much incentive. They think they are the only game in town and cAn do whatever they want. There is better places in the area to work and I would advise to avoid this place unless you are very desperate.

When things kick off and get busy, they get really really busy!
Kinda seems like running around like headless chicken at times.
The management team is very supportive, and the field workers all seem to know their stuff, but getting the two to sync is sometimes a challenge.
Days start early (especially the further west you are stationed) and are full. Projects are fun and always have something interesting to learn. Pay is good, but could easily burn through guys.

typical days included building bridges and components, as well as keeping the site clean and safe. I learned a lot about fitting, welding, fabrication, and rigging. management was good at keeping work methods efficient, and workers happy. my co workers were good to work with. we were all team oriented which made communication easier. the hardest part of the job was overcoming the challenges we faced, like getting certain parts to fit, and to prevent distortion.
the most ejoyable part was finishing each project with top quality.

Some individuals may have a positive experience in specific locations or operations, but this organization's problems are right near the top.  Poor execution and management of new projects, offloading the burden on the people at the bottom.  Hire you for an immediate need, no regard for your long term grow and will treat you as expendible. No consistency for dealing with toxic situations or employees, it depends on status.  Talk a big game about themselves as a place to work and are in complete denial.

Great crew... Fun place to hang out and get paid. Management team is down to earth and that makes it easier to go to work every day

Communication can be a tough one at times. Expectations without communication leads to unnecessary stress 😜🤘

Pretty chill. Even when it's a stupid busy day. That's a win 😎👍

Had big essay on why not too work here but was deemed too spiteful too post.
Disorganized and very very low compensation for skilled trades compared to other employers in the area.
Job security is good as  they always seem to have work and 
turnover here is like a revolving door, they need bodies.

Worked in Tukbler ridge on the moose lake wind project for the summer of 2018. Met some good people and learnt a lot. It was truly a Wild work environment driving up a mountain every day and seeing grizzly bears. The only downside was the safety culture, multiple time there was dropped objects that could have injured or killed someone. The towers are 330 feet high and that’s often the drop distance.
