WAS..a great place..with good energy and full of hard working guys when I first started.. everyone was getting paid “Piece work”, so the faster we churned out trusses the more we made! Also quite often we were able to go home early Fridays once day quota was met. 5 days a week no weekends 9 hour days.. it was honestly pretty decent other than the occasional bit of mouldy wood you had to make do with or the odd  supervisor. 
THEN everything changed.. went to 2 separate shifts, 4- 11hr hour days, or 3 -12hr on the other shift.. not bad.. then they pulled piece work because each shift started blamed the other for whatever.. (mostly because they got some new management who convinced the owners they could double and triple production with 2 shifts)  they also got rid of all the good workers and tried to introduce a bunch of automation into a very otherwise “old school like” environment.. 
lol I was one of the “lucky” ones who had a chance to advance from the building tables and supporting jobs.. to running various machinery.. great if you like making the same amount as everyone who just swings a hammer..yet, your new responsibilities include (but are not limited to) keeping up with unrealistic and literally unattainable “footage cut quotas” oh yes, they are keeping track of downtime, number of boards cut per minute and overall daily footage!! Lol just try and cut mouldy crooked, cracked, FROZEN 2x6 @ 16’ quickly.. Then with the new sorting and picking system they tried to implement, they managed to not only anger all of the “old timers” who were the good pickers.. (and if your picker is Angry let me tell you, your day just got a whole lot more interesting!!) which intern would Angry the builders by having them waiting for recuts.. it was either QUANTITY OR quality there.. seldom the latter.. by the time I left. I honestly could go on and on as I worked there for a few years.. think I’ve said enough.

Working at Tarpin is a unique experience for many reasons, there training is inadequate as well as most workers behaviours. the management team does have a few good well rounded people but they are surrounded with incompetent employees. there is no concern for safety or training I received almost no training for a quality position as well as lead to believe there would be room for growth in the workplace but after a couple days the supervisor down plays the opportunity to grow and learn I would not recommend this place of employment to anyone as I feel that there needs to be a major change to the entire workplace, from training,cleanliness,attendance from workers as well as health and safety. I was very disappointed with how this job opportunity turned out as management seems nice but is ill equipped to deal with problems in the workplace. 

Typical manufacturing place to work.  Hours are great you get overtime and the pay is the norm.  Things have changed some are taking time to get started but the change is good.  People here say management isn’t any good but those people are just your usual negative people who were canned due to their negative attitudes or lack of work ethic.  It doesn’t matter what position you hold there if you are willing to take on new tasks you can do just about anything there and you are rewarded with your efforts.  These negative comments on here are only from people who deserved to be canned.  I work there and it’s great and I like it.

Just an awful experience working at Tarpin. The day shift was a bunch of children who had no respect for the supervisors so the supervisors could never get anything done. The supervisors got no respect because they are lazy and stay in the office and the management is too worried about covering their own butts to know that the supervisors aren't doing their jobs. The management will lie to you and tell you anything to keep you. No raises, no bonuses, no Christmas bonus... Just the owners and management making HUGE $$ and not caring about employees. A very sad place to work. I do not recommend working at Tarpin Lumber.

Learning to work as a team, lunch.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You’re expected to work like crazy well everyone else stands around. The company doesn’t care about you at all. Your coworkers are mostly not from canada and don’t understand anything.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful, repetitive, unsafe, not reliable and unfair.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressed, everyday is the same thing and the uppers will replace you without hesitation.

Each morning starts with a shift briefing where they consistently told the entire crew how they are not doing good enough. At one point they told everyone if you don't want to be here then leave. They had targets of 3000 pieces while the daily average never hit above 1200. They set unrealistic targets and then preceded to tell everyone how were failing the company. 

They tell you in the interview how they're a big family and have a good culture yet, most people were miserable. At one point a fight broke out over the volume of music in the work area. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!

 

Used to be a great place to work. Change in management has meant many changes within the office environment. Employees no longer feel as if their opinion is being heard or valued. Feels as though you are a number and not a human being. Management says that the shop and office are getting the same treatment, yet shop employees get a lot more bonuses. Office employees are not being treated fairly within the team. Unrealistic deadlines within the design team.

This place is such a joke, they have no respect or loyalty towards anyone. The pay is terrible, they know they pay below average for this job but want above average work ethic. If I knew how bad this place is I wouldn’t have come in after the interview. The only reason I’m still here is because i haven’t found a better job. You can’t move up because they would rather hire from the outside than from inside, so there’s no point in working hard, so now everyone comes in and does their time and leaves.

Going home at the end of the shift

They’ll keep adding more jobs to your plate for the same pay.

Toxic, everyone gossips and if you’re not in the “inner circle” , you’re disposable 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Your boss is always stressed out and stressing you out to work harder.

I worked in the office at the order desk for 6 weeks.  My co worker had told me many times that it had taken her 6 MONTHS to finally have everything click. I was told after 6 weeks that I wasn’t getting it fast enough. I was taken by surprise. This was also right after I shared with the office manager of my mental health struggles so I am sure that affected her decision as well. The sales people run the place and if they don’t like you, be prepared to not stay long. Unprofessional and unhelpful.
