Pure commission. You either make minimum wage because your commission is “topped up” but you have to pay that back off your next commission pay. Takes about 3-4 months to actually see decent income because you get paid once it’s delivered and it the customers home. That’s if product is even available. 
Don’t let them “sell you” on their pay structure unless you’ve worked pure commission jobs before. 
You only sell in ONE department. Furniture floor being the most lucrative, then appliances. Outlet is looked at as “garbage furniture and appliances”. Furniture floor associates will stop people from going in the Outlet department or look down on people that work in there/shop in there. 
No sales training - Other staff members train you on on the system, you get mixed information and improper training. Management is there to only to do deals and write-ups, no actual coaching is provided when they put you on a coaching plan. Just re-do the online training, which is basic sales knowledge. Poor product knowledge training, only videos until a product rep comes in. 
Not proper paid “mandatory training” on those days and you’re expected to come in early or watch a video call on your time off. 
If you can figure out what you are doing, the management is essentially useless except for when you “have to ask for permission” to do things.
Redundant and uninformative sales meetings, no collaborative work environment.
Lots of work emails, you should always be checking even when off work if you want to make sure you on top of things.
Highly competitive seasoned sales staff, if you don’t know how to “cherry pick” your customers, you’ll be stuck with “tire kickers”.
Not recommended for an entry level sales person. (Like most furniture stores)
You have to watch your sales everyday to make sure they are not taken by another employee. 
Seasoned employees will steal your customers if you’re not there and did the work, but will expect you to do the work for them when they are not there.
You have to cross reference each sale with your pay to make sure you are paid correctly.
Management is never around and condescending when asking for help.
Lots of work politics. He said she said, and favour is placed on the monthly top/seasoned sales associates. Whoever yells/cries louder wins.
Over worked customer service associates and warehouse workers - the backbone of the company.
London is a union but the rest of the stores are not included. So everything is based off them.
Windsor and London get favourited as stores.
Company claims sustainability when they don’t even own green bins and the recycling bins have garbage bags in them.

When I first got the call that I was wanted for an interview with Tepperman’s, I was so excited, and filled with confidence when they decided to do all of my interviews into one.  There was the opportunity for a decent wage, great hours, benefits and perks.  

Management seems friendly and inviting, and make promises of understanding the learning curve and lots of help in training, as well as a general leniency when it comes to some rules.

The facts are:

Management is unprofessional and disorganized.  They tell you it’s optional to link your work email to your cell phone, but it’s apparently mandatory.  While I was home sick and had been texting one of the managers the whole time about whether I’d be into work or not, he never thought to tell me the MANDATORY meeting scheduled for the next day had been cancelled, and I paid to cab myself to work for this mandatory meeting I understood was still going on because I didn’t link my work email to my cell phone.  Bringing your work home is mandatory, just to set the record straight for any future applicants.

The training is absolutely bare minimum.  You’re supposed to be given a desk so you can practice using the system  in the training environment at your own desk and have a place to get credentials and all set up.  You’re lended a tablet and given no workspace until the minute before they want you completely independent on the phones.  That is, after two weeks of minimal classroom time and mostly listening to phone calls, barely any follow up on procedures in the system.   Terribly organized, lack of training plan, lack of resources for newbies.

When given negative feedback about the training, management reacts defensively and places blame on YOU. 

Any discussions they do have regarding concerns with you are vague and unproductive.

My opinion?  Not worth the drama and conflama that comes with it.  All power to you if you apply.

I got into Teppermans after two interviews and was lead on to believe this is the best place to work at. Boy was I mistaken!
To inform anyone getting into this position, you only get a 5 minute "break" (they don't even call them breaks they call them "time outs". What a joke!) and a half an hour unpaid lunch. Don't expect anymore breaks during the day. So if you have any digestive problems guess that means you're pretty much screwed.

On top of that the managers are a joke. Look at other Indeed reviews and you will find the exact same thing. I was being bullied and when I took my manager aside she told me to: "Just get over it!". Also she accused me of not taking my job seriously because I "stopped wearing makeup". No you did not read that wrong. The manager stopped my training and pulled me aside to say she didn't think I was taking the job seriously because I stopped wearing makeup. 

What a joke! Big shock to no one the Customer Service Representative job post keeps becoming advertised every month. It gives you an idea of the turn over rate in that position. 

The coworkers are very cliquey and rude. I guess they're great if you fit in, but if you don't they treat you like trash. And if they start making your life at work miserable don't expect your manager to care.

My thoughts? If you're desperate for a job and in desperate need of money, don't even turn to them. It's a miserable place to work and their misery loves company.

A typical day at work involves extremely heavy lifting and dealing with dissatisfied customers on a consistent basis. The job itself offers very little in terms of skill development beyond basic customer service and the use of power hand tools. Opportunities for advancement are virtually nonexistent, and pay raises are rare and minimal, especially considering the physical demands of the role.

Management has consistently been unresponsive to employee concerns. Issues are often acknowledged briefly, if at all, and rarely followed up on or resolved. As a delivery team member, the workplace culture makes it difficult to feel like you are part of something meaningful; instead, you are treated as just another number. Combined with the physical strain, lack of growth, poor communication, and limited compensation progression, this creates a work environment that becomes frustrating and unrewarding over time.

Avoid this place unless you have no other options out there honestly. You’ve been warned.

I absolutely loved working at Tepperman's. On their offer letter they promise that Tepperman’s will always be a place where you will be able to work energetically and it will always be a place where you will be challenged to keep learning how to get better at what you do. These are so true. The environment at Tepperman's is that they want you to improve and keep learning so that you can achieve your goals. The support and knowledge is incredible. I also can't believe that the President of the company knew me by name and would stop and talk to me about how I was doing whenever he got the chance. The Executive's effort to treat their employees and customers like family is very respectable and they are one of few companies who highly value this. When you work here you do truly feel like family and that what you do matters. You feel part of a team that is trying to reach a common goal. I would recommend working here to anyone.

This company says they value family yet their employees are not happy, very over worked, over whelmed and just not important. They warn you in your interviews that the job is very stressful, they expect so much out of their employees but give nothing back. The rate of pay (which is just over min wage) cannot compensate for the endless days of headaches from being overwhelmed and stressed out. They need to hire way more people and break up certain job duties instead of allowing their customer service take care of everything (everything!) And then guilt trip them into thinking they are not trying hard enough or doing enough. There are some employees that have been there for years, these employees make it hard for newcomers, just a childish pack of bullies. This company needs a real check in customer service for the employees not the customers. I really hope that the owners see this and takes this review and tries to make a change your employees deserve better!  

I've enjoyed my time at Tepperman's.  It's a Family business that has been established for a long time and the owner clearly has a passion for his employees.  The one thing that was made clear from day one, is that it will be a busy place to work and that you will never be bored.  I came to this company with that in mind and so the workload is exactly what I expected.  Retail, in general, is a hard industry to work in due to having to work on the majority of weekends as well as variable hours during the week, but Teppermans pays well compared to any competitors and they are constantly trying to make the experience better.  There is always room for improvement, but I trust that my Managers are taking all the efforts that they control to make positive change.  I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to gain experience in the retail industry.

From the start I was told about the family culture with this place, it’s all a huge lie. One manger will tell you one thing in the first interview then the second manager you have an interview with is completely the opposite. The Ancaster store may look nice and everyone there may look happy. Don’t fall for the lies, it’s all a show, I have no idea how they have managed to stay in business this long by being this way. I wouldn’t work for them even if they gave away bars of gold as a welcome gift. Don’t waste your time, they will interview you and if they don’t like you or you don’t fit the qualifications you’ll get a rejection email from their workday system more than a week later. It’s hard to respect a business that doesn’t have the decency to call you and say you weren’t selected.

I learned all about financing and credit. I loved working here. The people were absolutely amazing. We sell protection on all of our contracts and the customers who agree to have it and end up having a misfortune, come in to see what can be done, and it is a great feeling being able to tell someone who has not had the best of luck that we will be paying off there contract in full and it is not something they have to worry about. That is the best part of my job. The hardest thing was learning when to do certain things and what needed to be done. A typical day at work involves speaking with many different customers about making payments, financing and what to do if they have not paid their contracts off in the interest free period.

Most people that work here are lovely, it is just very poorly managed. Managers don't know what they are doing most of the time and will lash out on staff due to their incompetence. They see no problem underpaying the customer service reps yet piling on responsibilities over their capabilities onto these workers. I wouldn't recommend this place until they fix how it is run. They fired a manager that came up with the bright idea for the store to handle all the deliveries, firing the third party company that was helping them before actually trying out the idea. Ruined so many deliveries that cxs have canceled many orders, thus ruining the sales people commission and adding stress to the customer service reps.
