Texas Instruments

Texas Instruments is a good company to work for with decent benefits and pay. The Toronto work environment is quite good - people are very respectful of each other and there is a "family" feel to the team. The IT division work life balance is sometimes less than ideal as deadlines are often unrealistic, and while no one is forced to work extra hours it is kind of common/expected but unspoken particularly for less senior people. While management is good, there are a lot of reorgs (almost yearly) - usually when there is some kind of upper management change - which usually results in some job losses. So job security is poor. Their focus is mainly on hiring new college graduates rather than experienced people, so there is a lack of experience throughout which makes for lower quality results and also makes it difficult for the few with experience who are expected to lead so many inexperienced people. The bottom line is that deadlines matter far more than quality, which is frustrating for those who want to do things properly and make improvements.

I loved working for TI.  The culture is great.  They support you via training to help move you up the chain.  I had a job in the IT part of the company upon my graduation from college.  I graduated and the hiring manager couldn't get sign off on the applications.  She said there was a stack and didn't know why they weren't getting signed off.  A few months it was released that Raytheon bought the Defense Group of TI.  From 1999 on I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy.  Since United Technologies bought Raytheon, it appears the management is getting better.  I'd probably still look else where for work.  I've lost all of my trust with Raytheon.  It would take a miracle to get me back to that company. 

normal work day, duty on time do daily work, lunch, daily work, off time. learned to cope up with different kinds of people. don't argue with your boss just do what he/she says. you have to be patient with other co workers and don't trust anybody. the hardest part is trusting someone and he will only let you down for job promotion, also when they will assign you multiple tasks and you haven't finish your daily routine jobs. enjoyable part of the job is when this multiple tasks assigned to you is done within your shift,, enjoy reporting and endorsement for the next shift.

It always starts with an endorsement; endorsement is our way to know what the machine encountered errors. If there's any, we, the operators should ask the problems and what if so we'll know the to do's and not to do's.
I've learn the time management is important so you could handle the job properly.
In my opinion, New Hires or New employee will enjoy their Jobs if the Pioneers are Nice and Fun to with, the professionalism are still there but the tight bond is strong so everyone will be excited working everyday even in a toxic day at work.

Small office in Toronto writing programming tools for the TI chip sets. I do not know if they do that in Toronto anymore. Interesting place to work. I believe that they eventually outsourced these products.

A solid, large company to work for.
Like any large corporation some of the personal side of your career may be overshadowed.
Many of the people there are fabulous. Working with them is a joy.
Dallas, TX based and that won't change.

TI is a great innovative company with god culture and business model. However, it's finance and resource planning is sometimes not optimum given the market and industry situation.

Exams and qualifications to operate machinery

Easy to move around and meet al the personel and also leared a lot about my field of study. Even though I was engaged in Software developing, I was able to see directly what other groups were doing.

Wide scope to learn, experiment, brain storm with very good support all design-product-development-application-other support teams.
