I left Texcan to pursue other opportunities due to the negative atmosphere in the workplace. The managers micro-manage, make workers feel like they are on edge, and overall create a negative workplace environment. The only positive to working at Texcan is the employees are great. That being said, many of the best employees have left Texcan in the past year to Texcan's competition...  There is no room for advancement, unless you want to sell cable for the rest of your life. The HR department is not on the employee's side, always on the employer's side. Remember that before making a complaint. I hope the CEO will soon realize the Edmonton management team is the reason there is such high turnover in staff.

I really enjoyed working for Texcan and would recommend this work place to anyone. I got to work with people from all different cultures and learned lots of things about their countries and life styles. At the end of every month we was given a free lunch for our hard work. They was very thought full about employees family's by giving them free tickets once a year to a CFL game and also a 100$ gift card for Christmas to a local grocery store. They also take part in a corporate challenge events every summer.

Good wage at the start, benefits are good. 3 weeks holidays after 3 years working, no room for advancement. You get a chance to learn all positions, only top seniority people get to have the less physical jobs. I worked here for 3 years, got stuck working cutting wire and picking. Which are the physical jobs, light jobs are receiving and shipping. Only difference it’s more using your brain then lifting much. Only really good thing I can say is they give you a chance and can learn everything in one year. Pretty much can use this place for experience to find something better down the road.

Typical day is no communication.  Everything is a secret.  Management will talk to you only if they feel you are privy to the information or want to tell you what to do.  They never have time to discuss real issues and feel as though everyone gets treated the same.  Sexism does exist here.

If you start here you will be in the same position forever.  No room for advancement at all.  They call themselves a team but there is definitely division between all positions.  Its a everyman for themselves kind of place.

I liked my job but the management made me hate it.  It's time for a change TEXCAN and your upper management needs t step in.  They wonder why people are dropping like flies......internal review

I recently left Texcan to pursue a different opportunity but have to say it was a great place to work. Culture is a little off from what I am used to but the people are great. Management is really understanding and takes the time with you. Pay isn’t great, but makes up for it with benefits and work life balance. If you are looking for a career that allows for a low stress environment, where you can come to work and do exactly what is asked of you and that is it, this is the place for you. Not a lot of room for advancement which made it hard to strive for anything, but overall a good experience.

Terrible atmosphere, terrible work life, TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. Do not bother going to HR about issues, they will never be on your side. If the economy slips, you’ll be gone! They only care about who makes the money and will step on anyone in the way. You are basically just a puppet. You will do way more than your job description and not get paid to accommodate this. Also, don’t expect raises, that doesn’t happen unless you’re in top sales. I don’t think their head office really realizes how corrupt the Edmonton location is. They would benefit from an undercover employee check. Their employee turnover is insane but consistently blame the employee...hmmmm

A Typical day at work here is dealing with Different types of cable and dealing with Customers.   I Learned organization is everything. unfortunately this company lacks that majorly so most of the time easy jobs turn difficult.   it didn't hold me back just made me pay more attention and ultimately that made me smarter. the job really wasn't hard to me. other than dealing with thick types of cable some types of cable were as thick as a human head.  the most enjoyable part about that job was being a receptionist.

Typical day at Texcan would consist of hundreds of customer orders and meeting deadlines everyday. Dusty environment, but a good team to work with which makes work extremely easy and enjoyable. 

Management is always on top of things, as well safety is the biggest consideration at Texcan. The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to learn about the different types of cables/wires and cable connectors electricians use for building.

I find my role very rewarding.  I work with all levels of team member, from the Warehouse to the President and have found it easy to build relationships. I have weekly meetings with my leader to catch up and have access to them at any other time as well. I am clear on what my goals are and have support to achieve them.   Work life balance at Texcan is the best I have experienced in last 20 years of my career.  It is a faced paced environment, which is what I enjoy.

The job is easy but don’t expect any praise or recognition for hard work. There is very little in the way of job advancement, all available movement is basically lateral. As long as you show up on time you won’t lose your job.

For how easy the job is the pay is decent. Very good benefits and a good RRSP plan are also nice here.

Not very fulfilling employment but very few complaints.
