I’ve been with the company for a bit over a year and my god I’m happy to be done, me and a couple co workers have called it highschool because that’s what it truly is. You go in to work and every one is gossiping over everything. If you like being yelled at and pushed to the point where you are ready to walk out then this company is for you! They say in you’re interview that you will be working 11:30-7:30am with OPTIONAL OVER TIME. And that you will get 40 hours a week. THEY LIE TO YOU RIGHT IN THE INTERVIEW. Sundays you are done anywhere from 2am till 6am and thru out the week they want you to work overtime to make up for Sunday. They try and praise the job and make it sound amazing but you will be worked like a slave. If you want time off you literally have to beg for it even if it’s for a family emergency. They don’t care, if you’re breathing you better be coming in to work. Meanwhile the office staff can sit in their air conditioning office and heated office and come out and get you in trouble for not doing you’re job meanwhile they are the ones who messed it up in the first place. They plan everything so badly that you are at the mercy of them. If you plan on being done at 7:30am every day dont even bother applying here. But believe me. I was a week in trying to get my sleep schedule to nights and I got hauled in to the terminal managers office and told that I need to do overtime or my position would be reconsidered  and that I need to do overtime or I would be out of a job. I have been yelled at by fellow co workers for taking 2 days vacation. Also heaven forbid you go to hr. Or the office staff for help about it, talk about useless they are like oh we will check on it. And nothing ever gets done. This company has favouritism and it’s very clear, there is no room for advancement in the company unless it you suck up too the boss. Also heaven forbid you call in sick. Be prepared to be yelled at by you’re supervisor and be prepared for every one to look down on you.

Chronically short-staffed so overtime was expected constantly. Was told 8.5hr shifts and no weekends. But the position I had, you are expected to stay until every task for the various terminals has been completed. So even though I was hired for Mississauga, I had to stay late to help finish other terminals anyways. None of this was mentioned in the interview.

Was promised a potential wage increase/review and benefits upon 90 days of work but only ever received an email from HR about how to download the app for the benefits program. No one said go ahead and use the benefits. No one reached out to offer a wage increase or say that there wouldn't be one. They did mention a review was due and that it needed to be setup but then nothing ever came of that.

Very high expectations for the level of compensation they were offering. Everyone worked through their breaks to try to get tasks completed. Very poor communication from management. Very unorganized, not a good first impression on a new hire. Every shift felt like "flying by the seat of your pants". A lot of red flags from the get-go, do not dismiss these. Not worth the headache.

I am newer to Erb but I have seen enough to make a pretty objective review. 

We are in a very pricey area, yes the pay is a bit lower - I can't go and buy a house on this salary. However, that's just a starting wage. This company is a firm believer on merit increases - so they will bump you up if you perform well. 

The managers are supportive, they have a job to do but they also care about the person behind the desk. This company is big on ensuring you have flexibility to care for your family and self. There is a lot of respect and freedom. 

The work is challenging but the teams are built so that you can ask for help, work collaboratively, and management is always around to offer support where they can. 

You can feel the heart and family in this company. Everything here is done with passion and feeling, in addition to strategy and advancement. It's the perfect place for someone wanting to be a part of a large family and also with a company who is a leader in transportation. 

Truthfully Erb is a fantastic place to work, and the corporate team is always open to suggestions. I really enjoy being at this company, and as we move into 2020 it's exciting to see where this company will go!

This company was once great to work for, but you are no longer treated like family but as an employee number. There is a high turn over rate, which puts pressure on the long term staff to pick up the slack.  The wages stay stagnant once you have been working here a few years . There are a few very good managers here and even they are feeling the shift in how things are operated. A good chunk of the managers have huge egos, but don't know how to perform tasks within their department to help out.  The managers also put blame on other departments and be little them . They have lost touch with the fact we are  all playing for the same team. You will also see other departments receive new equipment and others using bandaid solutions to keep things working.  If you want entry level experience in transportation or office administration duties this is the only positive for working here. Put a year in and move on to better things, as this ship is sinking fast. 

For starters they are good to you if they like you and you work like a slave and the minute you dispute something your put on the low list and all the dispatchers are snobnosed and dispatch from cellphones I’ve seen it but they have satellite and the terminal manger is always looking at his bonus and the operation manger is very two faced like some dispatches I must admit I did like one dispatcher I was there for a number of years I hated every  year cause they could follow there policy right and by the law of Ontario and what sickens me they hide behind that whole we are a federally regulated business  lol so if your close to retirement good place or if your just starting out stay away unless you like to be treated badly it use to be a good place to work years ago but the Trenton terminal very very bad toxic workplace and oh ya if you have a work refusal good luck they don’t do nothing or have your side they always have the dispatchers side and there will be no investigation so do yourself a favour stay way 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very few things if anything comes to mind, the dock crew were good and most of the drivers were friendly.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Schedule constantly changing, hours being cut, boss and managers ignoring any questions you may ask pertaining to the job, blatent favoritism, the list goes on.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Tense and the expectation to come to work even if roads are closed due tk dangerous conditions, always under appreciated for hard work, higher ups care for drivers and will throw bbqs for drivers and office staff but do not care as it is scheduled during prime dock worker hours. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Right from clock in it is the same old routine with 0 variation, when I was first hired I had received no actual training, I was told to simply observe but when given 1 task I could not observe the other tasks being done, was expected to know everything with 0 training and 0 opportunity.

This was an amazing place to work at but unfortunately had downward spiralled & continues to. If not for the Drivers freight wouldn’t be delivered, drivers having to use cell phones to constantly call in as satellite messages are not answered with anywhere from 4 to 7 dispatchers in the office but can’t answer them when they are to busy texting their favourite drivers. The favouritism is so evident it’s become a running joke. A new driver supervisor that preaches a good talk but is useless. A driver trainer that can’t seem to get out of his chair to go outside. A terminal manager that would rather delicate everything & pretend nothing is wrong and all of them make fun of a driver who calls in but have 5 paid sick days they use with . The drivers could McLain just to hear themselves complain thank goodness there are some drivers there who actually fight for their rights but then are trash talked about behind their backs all because they are buds with management. I hope this place turns around & the drivers form a union it’s the last hope heree as head office & the owner Wendell is so out of touch and honestly doesn’t care.

My time working here started off fairly inviting. I was promised a lot early on. There was always something new to learn. That was until conflict of interest came into play, where a relative of the manager complained that I was getting too many hours. 
This started a snowball effect where I was punished for simply wanting to work more. My hours were cut back just because the manager wanted to keep their relative in higher standing with the company.
This level of conflict of interest is unacceptable as it was against policy which I read over after signing to get on. There was way too much nepotism and everyone turned a blind eye. I now see why this place has a turnover of employees.
I left feeling cheated and disrespected after driving through blizzards and commuting every day (even when some of the local employees would stay in due to bad weather). 
I will never work for this company again they are undeserving of good workers and prefer to keep lousy people in management. 

This is a job that does require dedication and the ability to work without being constantly supervised.  You are by yourself must of time.  The ability to interact with shippers and receivers and obey the rules of the road and hours of service.  There is a fair amount of paperwork that is needed to cross the border and ensure the shipment clears with little problems.  

The hardest part of the job can be the weather and the conditions of the road.  Winter conditions increases the danger and can certainly bring up the stress levels.  Eating properly and trying to get some exercise can help make this a long term career.

The best part of the job is I have a corner office with a great view.  See a lot of scenery and and watching some of the weather when stopped can be very enjoyable.  Was sitting at one of our terminals when a wild thunder storm rolled through at night and it was spectacular.  Different animals can also be observed, although much of my driving is at night so concerns about moose and deer does increase the danger.

Company is slow to adapt and keep up with the industry ... the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing and dock workers suffer consequences for managements lack of a clue. Typical day started at 1130pm at night with light sorting until lunch time at around 1:30. Your then swamped with inbound freight which needs to be sorted and loaded onto straight trucks for the following morning. Ideally the freight should be spread out and adjusted accordingly but for some reason this doesn’t happen. After sorting till around 530 you start to load straight which are already hours behind schedule. This creates tension between the dock drivers and dispatch who are all looking for someone to blame. Busy days you will typically be there till around 1130pm even though your set shift is till 730. They try to tell you this overtime is mandatory but have no real clue about the actual laws. This company is a dumpster fire to work for but you will meet some of the best people and coworkers ever here, other than that there’s not a single good thing about it.
