The Glencoe Club

This is a horrible workplace. You are degraded by your superiors, co-workers, and members. You have to seek out coworkers that are reliable and respectful. Once they resigned, so did I because I've got some self-respect. If you want to work in food and beverage work at McDonald's. Believe it or not, it's better. The management is not present in day-to-day operations which makes it difficult to be efficient. Once you communicate issues and attempt to find solutions, you are criticized by leadership for "acting like you're in charge" when you are assisting in helping the workplace run better. 

Even when attempting to work your way up, you are restricted. The workers that possess a skill set that others do not are paid the same and expected to do more work. I attempted to shift departments to something in my future career field and was blocked at every turn. 

Additionally, when it comes to employee spaces, it is limited. There is an employee parking section that employees are forced out of because members are prioritized. You have to get there 25 minutes before your shift to find parking somewhere in the neighbourhood and walk to the club's employee entrance. Then once you're in, there is no locker space for all employees and they expect you not to have your belongings (ie. phone) on you. Where am I supposed to put it? When lockers did eventually free up as many employees resigned, I requested a locker multiple times as they were empty but was never given one, only told "I'll get the combination for one by your next shift."

Just a horrible place to be. I only lasted a year because I had about 5 coworkers I enjoyed working with. They all quit a week before me. 

Work is normal as a bartender or waitress. The job is like any other, the difference being your coworkers.

At Glencoe people love to talk about how bad members are but honestly, the most judgy cliquey group will be your manager & coworkers.  It's not like a normal bar or restaurant where the work is kinda bad and everyone works together to make everyone else feel good and 'make your tips gurll'. 

At Glencoe no one talks to eachother. Ever. It's not fun, it's not supportive, and people will have gripes about you and not communicate them at all. Expect this if you work there. It's like a worse version of an office job where the bartender complains about you to your manager to try to get you fired, instead of talking to you like anyone else would. It's constant. I hated it. It makes work stressful.

Members are, for the most part intelligent, respectful and very friendly. There's one exception but it's fine. He really just wants to be heard. I loved members, hated my coworkers though. Genuinely awful. Don't work there.

It was a very busy challenging work environment. It was fulfilling and rewarding to work with members and guests. 
I enjoyed most every day that I worked at the Glencoe Club. I liked how the various departments were willing to cross train or help each other out whenever possible. 
The hardest part of the job was when members had had things done a certain way for 60 years and didn't like to change things. It was difficult to try to keep a balance of keeping them happy while at the same time bringing things into a new era to bring in new interest and profitablity. But it was a joy to see how over time they saw the benefits of the new ways and came on side and encouraged the progression. What was most enjoyable was the corporate teambuilding events. I loved planning, creating and facilitating them and giving the people an extraordinary WOW factor to their events!

The Glencoe is a great place to work without the stress of other childcare centers.  They trust you in doing your work and give constant positive feedback.  I would highly recommend working at the Glencoe club especially in the childcare department.  I also like how they ask what your availability is for working and can be often flexible if things change.
I just wish I was able to go back full time after some time off which was not possible but was able to get hired back part time.

They truly care about their employees here, which is so rare nowadays! Working in F&B I thought it would be so stressful, but it's not at all! Very good pace (busy, but not insane) and everyone is really understanding. There is also lots of room to grow given that it's such a big place! The only con working in F&B is that there are so many kitchens etc it's a bit chaotic having to run around the place for each order during events, but once you are trained it's not an issue at all! Definitely recommend working here, especially in the summer it's beautiful! The only reason I left is that I got a job in my field.

Lunch for the employees. You pay a monthly minimum amount for that.

Micro management and discrimination

They live off gossip and rewarding bad employees. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working stressed under supervision of terrible bosses that always are on the top of you.

Love the company and their stated missions and goals but food and beverage management is extremely poor - in contrast to pretty much every other department.  No leadership, no direction, minimal support, and highly inefficient people.  Top managers are inexperienced in their roles and long-term managers with strong member connections are gone. Headed in the wrong direction fast.

Culture was great at the start of working there but it deteriorated the longer I worked there The leadership and communication from management was poor and as much as you tried to make things better there never seemed to be an acknowledgement or trying to input new strategies.  
The best part of this job was the other employees that also has similar thoughts towards management.
They also mishandled their HR department and communication regarding expectations.

Toxic environment. Upper management picks clear favourites

Busy. Depends on the department and who you work with. If you are working within a larger department it gets overwhelming

Nothing really, you are over worked and micro managed

Dealing with the head chef and worrying about job security due to positions being given away and favored for family

 Stressful environment. Non supportive. Over worked. Underpaid. Consistent micromanage . Chef never happy with anyone. Likes to pick on people
