The Phone Experts

The staff in stores are great for the most part. The atmosphere is good and the stores really do try to make it a fun environment. Team spirit is great and everyone tries to help each other. It is great when customers come back because they loved your help last time. It is also nice that they stand up and don’t let their employees be verbally abused or yelled at and are allowed to ask customers to leave within reason. Upper management makes things difficult with unrealistic expectations with sales targets. Targets are pushed hard and you basically have to force customers into getting services or you will get in trouble. If you don’t hit your targets for a certain amount of time they will fire you. You are docked on your quarterly reviews on how you meet your targets and don’t get good raises even if you do meet your targets. The dress code is not great and in my opinion would be better if we could dress more casual. Upper management can dress however they like when they come to visit the stores wearing causal clothing/shoes while the rest of us are forced to dress in business clothing and uncomfortable foot wear. We aren’t even allowed to wear runners when we stand on hard floors all day. Vacation pay is terrible barely paying you anything and it takes forever to get enough banked up to take anytime off. I wish that management would take into consideration that we also need to live. They can hand out bonuses to General Mangers and higher ups all the time but the front line workers get absolutely nothing for the hard work we put in. We are the reason the stores and company make any money and yet we still get nothing. 

Honestly one of the worst companies I have had the chance to work for. Base wage is below minimum wage with commission required to bring it over minimum (they will bump you up to minimum if your commission doesn't, company uses this an excuse to put you in positions where you will barely make any commission). Targets for days, you can end up being fired for missing pretty much any target, no real benefits for actually meeting or exceeding targets. No room for advancement and no job security. Awful benefits package, no vacation/sick time. Constant turn over due to low pay, poor training or being fired typically after being set up to fail by the lackluster training. Company used Covid-19 lay offs in order to demote and replace staff. Next to no contact during and after lay offs, causing confusion among staff during an already stressful time. 
Avoid at all costs unless you have no other job prospects.
To try and have something kind of positive, some of my coworkers were incredible and overall at store level I would rate the staff quite highly at all locations that I worked at. I also briefly had a truly great store level management team right after dealing with one of the worst sets of store level management I've ever dealt with.
Two stars because the great staff manage to bring it up a star. 

I was absorbed into Phone Experts with an ownership change-over that took place at my previous company's retail location in 2018. Phone Experts went above and beyond for us by extending fair employment positions to each of us (at this location) and carried forward our tenor into our new positions so that we could maintain our vacation allotments, and employee benefits.  

The leaders take pride in both personal and professional growth for the company and most importantly it's team members. They pour time, care and attention into everything that they do and it shows. 

A lot of companies in the telecommunications world view their employees as a number, this is very much so not the case here. They value their people and their clients and go to bat for them when times are tough. 

I would recommend Phone Experts to anyone seeking a full time position who is tech savvy and willing to learn. 

If you sign on to be a sales representative, keep in mind that you are very much in charge of your personal income. People who thrive at Phone Experts are not order takers, they look to create business and opportunities for themselves and their teams through new learnings and for overall compensation goals. 

Manager is great, but their hands are tied by upper management. You can consistently perform at the top of the store but still not receive proper compensation. They have an incredibly strict dress code, but do not read the room. Clientele that come in seem to be young people, there isn't a strong enough reason as to why we need to wear dress clothes to work. Feels like every day it's higher ups posting into teams on how we can improve, but never a hey! Good job! Wage is decent at best. You can make a boatload of money, or none at all. You aren't necessarily in control of this, as there are busy months and dead months. They continuously stress being kind, and following the company values, but don't respond when you are dealing with  customers who are being hateful. It was leaked upper management got paid very handsome bonuses while telling the front floor staff there wasn't any money to go out for raises. Over and over again they talk about how we could perform better on the floor, but they don't seem to know what it is like on the floor, and if they do, they lack current, up to date experience on the floor. It seems every year I work there, I make less and less money with the years, as  they constantly change pay structure, seemingly to give it to the higher ups and managers.

Awhile back this company was amazing to work for. There was a time where they seemed interested in their employees lives and there was a time where they cared about their staff. I am unsure of what changed internally with the higher ups, but it has taken a drastic turn. Employees are treated like garbage, you’re no more than a number to them. The new management at my location, which is one of the busiest in my city, is horrible. Both members of management treat staff like garbage and will pass out write ups at any given chance and have previously went out of their way to make staff feel like garbage when they don’t put themselves in danger to stop someone from robbing the store. I understand this is a sales job, but constantly threatening to write your staff up or fire them if they don’t improve, is not how to run a business. Your staff are humans, treat them with actual respect before everyone starts to leave. 

Do not work here. They do not care about employees. They care about numbers. And that's all you'll ever be to them. A number. Job security? Never. Do you have excellent above par customer service skills? Never miss a day unless completely and totally nessacary? Too bad! You missed a target, you get a write up. Management is a joke. Instead of helping you do better they hide in the back and set up "one on ones" and scold you for not pitching 16 things in one transaction. And when you're honest with them and let them know you're struggling mentally and, physically, emotionally, what-have-you they disregard it and say "don't bring it to work!" Right because I can leave chronic health issues at home. Thanks boss! Look if you're outta school, looking for something to get you by it's fine. Minimum wage and commission. But if you need something Ling term or want to settle into a company long term, stay faaaar away. 

I’ve worked at a lot of places before I started here, and this is the only place that has ever made me feel welcomed and appreciated. The managers here actually care about your mental health and well-being, they want to see you thrive and do well. They are always willing to help out whenever you’re busy and need a hand and are always there to support you in anyway they can. 
Working here has helped me grow my confidence and I have made so many great connections with everyone here which is something I’ve never experienced at any workplace before. I’m really thankful to have such a great group of coworkers who I consider my friends. 
Our location is one of the busiest ones in town, so there are stressful moments of course, but your coworkers are always there for support whenever needed and everyone always has your back. 

What a great place to work - management gives us the leeway to be able to actually have a good home/work balance. The people there are great and upper Leadership really gets on the level of the actual team, holds themselves accountable and takes responsibility for how the stores operate. I've never experienced that before, as big companies are usually far removed and out of touch with the ins and outs of the ground team. 
I don't have any issues with any rules or regulations or how the company operates. I feel as though there's a lot of discontent from people who probably have never had big-kid jobs - having floating commission encourages the team players to do better, and it's a responsible way to control what you what you want to make - you get out what you put in, which only makes sense. 
Phone Experts is honestly a terrific company. 

The pay is fair but the job is not overly hard so I think it is fair, sometimes can be stressful but is manageable. If you are diligent you can go places and its not impossible to move up the ladder. Management was great and I loved the relationships I had with my co-workers. Great to be around and we always had good laughs and fun when we could. I learnt patience and people skills while I was here. definitely worth the experience!

Only issue I had while there was just not enough staff. there were a lot of times were people were sick and couldn't make it in so the rest of us would have to cover.

No company is perfect, but Phone Experts strives to be the best they can be for their people and their clients. It's a fun place to work with a family feel. There are always exceptions, but almost always, it's a kind, respectful and joyful environment. When it's not, it's addressed and corrected immediately. There's an open door policy, all the way up to the managing partner. You can always say what's on your heart without fear of losing your job. It's a place where you'll make life-long friends, organically grow - personally and professionally (because growth is a Phone Experts value) and connect with some very cool clients.
