The Ten Spot

I've worked here for most of my career. There are benefits, stability is a strong reason as to the duration of my time here.
Understand that everything is very organized, with the intention that there is a standardization of service based on the franchise model.
I wish the hourly pay were more in line with the cost of living, the work is enjoyable and satisfying but can be grueling. It can be tough to feel like a number in a company where those who manage you don't always have the same specialized knowledge - the lack of insight can at times be glaring and can impede work quality, efficiency, and community culture. The tips are decent, but how much you make can fluctuate depending on how booked you are, a portion of this is determined by sales. Ultimately it's got some things that are favorable, and things that can be better, most of which have been a constant since I began and I only became tired of once I had been there for a few years, perhaps don't stay as long or understand /accept what you're getting working for the company. Raises are tough to acquire and it's not really clear why, the workload can definitely fall into the grueling category when all of the tasks are added up, a higher wage can help one feel motivated/ appreciated. It's a problem with not everyone pulling their weight at the same time to get all of the work done, most people prioritize their energy and focus on what they can handle, if you try to do everything you may be stretched too thin, and it's not exactly recognized monetarily so it's not sustainable.

I've been with the company with the same franchise partner in NS since its inception - the work environment is fun, upbeat, and she truly goes above and beyond for her staff to make it a healthy work environment. Both locations in HRM are wildly busy - so be prepared to have fully booked days without much effort. This isn't a job you can sit back and enjoy your time in the staff room - it's fast paced, high energy, and high demand. If you set your mind to it - you can grow a clientele fast, and make a really decent amount of income. It's a team based job as well so the staff definitely rely on each other to help in high pressure situations. 

management is a mess, the turnover rate is insane either due to quitting or unreasonable firing. if you’re half decent at your job you’ll be expected to do everyone else’s and get no credit for it. expect to be loaded with extra responsibility and have to beg for months for a 25 cent raise to reflect that. there’s absolutely no room for moving up in the company, they’re obsessed with outside hires especially for management. they have a bad habit of throwing people to the wolves (enjoy a day or two of training and then you’re on your own). enjoy as many sick days as you please but know the other staff are aware of this already and most days you’ll be working short staffed. rude clients are rewarded with free services so if someone yells at you expect to be giving them a free pedicure later (out of your pay). HQ is constantly coming up with ridiculous promotions and ideas seemingly AIMED at making sure you make less money. overall, it’s a no from me but it’s just the port credit location. all others seem to be working fine 🤔 

The two sisters who own most of the locations in toronto completely over work their staff and pay them horribly. They treat their staff like property and do not respect work life balance. If you work in management, you will be expected to be available 100% of the time even during scheduled time off. The owners are always on vacation and disappear for days at a time and then come back and bombard staff with messages after work hours and fully expect responses. they set mandatory work days and times of year (blackout) and then are never ever around during those times. Don't you ever make a mistake because they will never forget it and will publicly humiliate you to set an example .Do not work here, the turn over rate is ridiculous because the owners are mean and everyone is terrified of them. Theyre completely diluted and have no self awareness.

the other employees are easy to get along with . the two sisters and management not so much. they try and micromanage and try advance the bar without actually ever being there. you’d think as a guest coordinator they would take your advice + listen to your concerns since you oversee everything in bar but no. instead you get ridiculed and fired a month before christmas for trying to benefit the bar. hours are not guaranteed, although when hired i was told full time positions were available i quickly learned that is not the case. the pay is laughable and impossible to live off of. the sisters go on vacations and post all the time about how wonderful the bar is. if they actually used that money to benefit the bar and maybe pay their staff a livable wage maybe just maybe they’d have better reviews. do not recommend working here at all. 

Great place to work if you want to be let go out of the blue without any warning.  They dont even have to make you sign anything. You can be employed for 8 months than let go the next day. They have a super horrible management. All the girls are bullies.  most of the staff just talk badly about each other and make rude comments about how other girls looks, even though it's supposed to be a "chill no discrimination workplace." A few of the girls also made fun of another girl with a disability.  The best part is they act super fake and nice towards your face the whole time. I'm sure if you've walked in there there is a good chance they've said something bad about you. The new management is also extremely lazy. Just overall disappointing really.

I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s so unbelievably tiring to keep up with their very forced upon company culture. No work/life balance if your salaried and expected to work overtime without question.  Franchise owners have no faith in their management team and everything is filtered through and checked by an operations manager first. Micromanagement to its  highest degree. Employees lack trust in management and can be disrespectful since they see their own managers being micromanaged. 

It was one of my first management opportunities and I really wish I didn’t take it but they really know how to sell the position. It’s just not what you expect. 

The two sisters have a complete lack of disrespect for their employees, especially management. They take all of these lavish trips and are never around yet micromanage like crazy (they could use some of this money to pay their staff a living wage). You aren’t allowed to take vacation in December, July or August and if in management you are expected to be on call 24/7, even on your days off or on vacations. There is high turnover rate due to the low wage, unreasonable expectations and the hostile work environment. There is no room for errors, if you make even the smallest mistake you will be berated in front of your peers.  

I worked as a GC and was training to be an EE, they set you up to be very competitive with your coworkers and have some toxic habits within franchise.

It's really as bad as everyone says it's not worth it unless you are somehow a magician and can sell products without having any clients. If you don't sell you don't make the front of the list and if you're not at the front of the list you don't get clients and your shifts get cut. If you have no clients and don't sell they don't let you do other services ( because they train you on one are at a time at their convenience and their decision)
