Torrid

I used to love my job at Torrid. The customers are amazing and my coworkers are too - they have instilled a confidence in me I didn't know I could have. I love them.

However.

Things changed. Drastically. If you are unable to pick up shifts when someone is sick, your hours get cut. If you are sick and nobody can cover, or god forbid you're sick more than once, your hours get cut. If you do something wrong (which happens, because you do not get fully trained ever), your hours get cut. But they dont tell you theyre cutting your hours, or why, they just wait until you notice and you have to try to guess what you did wrong. The girls they like, however, can get away with murder and still maintain 15 hours a week, regardless of asking someone to take every single shift. I have worked 3 hours a week for the past 6 months. If you're on anyone's bad side, for real or imagined reasons, your hours disappear, and when you do work you are banished to the back of the store where you will get a dirty look from management if you so much as go to the front of the store to put something away. I'm great with customers but they dont care - if they dont like you, you're toast.

There is no chance for advancement within the company, as they do not promote within (to avoid "drama").  So if you want to work somewhere without any chance of ever getting ahead, Torrid is the place for you!

They pay slightly over minimum wage, which is alright. The discount is decent, and there is a possibility of the entire store earning a better one for a day. You sometimes get a free bra. If your mental health isnt important, and you like to depend on picking up the hours of others in order to work enough to even afford anything in the store, this is the job for you!

I use an electric power chair. I was hired under the impression that I'd be a part of the team. They accepted all my accomodations without question (although I was put off from starting my training for a month after I was hired) & I was only given one three-hour shift a week, despite working very hard & asking for more, the hours never increased. I volunteered for seasonal help, but rather than increase my hours, they hired new people.
I was often put to work in the back rather than out among customers. It became very obvious that I was their token disabled hire & was being pushed aside. The staff always spoke down to me when explaining something & I was expected to use the mall bathroom rather than the one in the store. I also overheard one of them imply that a customer had saggy breasts. Not professional.
I thought I was being given a genuine chance but instead I wasted seven months there & I really wanted it to be my forever job. They didn't even respond to my resignation letter. Happy to be rid of me I guess.

I used to be the biggest Torrid customer.. Well that's probably overstated but I was in love with the brand. I finally got my chance to prove to them what I could do! Yay . .. and I did.
Honestly, I still cry about it. I'm grateful to be with the company that values me now.
I understand now why great talent left and why there's very poor customer service and store.

This store and the others in my location, could be amazing. Micromanaging is definitely a flaw especially when stores are improving. I think what would benefit this company is taking the time to really explain operations . Doing corrective action, and not giving up on good talent. Because great talent can only be replaced for so long and then you tarnish your business. I really hope some of the policies and procedures are looked at so that people like me, not only stop becoming a beloved consumer, but also not influence others because we all know word of mouth is the best advertisement.

Torrid was one of my favourite places to work. I worked there on and off. I started as a sales associate and moved up to be a key holder. If you put in the work and show you want to be there, there is room for growth. Management is very understanding of needing specific days off for appointments, the associates who work there were usually pretty good about picking up or swaping shifts. It can be super busy and stressful, where some customers will be in the store for hours or a rare occurrence after hours. Cleaning the store at night can be stressful during Torrid Cash. This job isn't meant for everyone, but it was such a fun, good vibe job. Theres rare times where you will have nothing to do. I feel like you're usually always busy. Overall it was a great place to work, however if you are looking for more then 3 hour shifts, you typically won't get that working here. Good for a part time second job though! 

If I could give this store 0 stars, I would. The managers are so rude. This is the worse job Ive ever had. I used to love this store and shopping there was amazing. After I got a job there, it all went down hill. The torrid in Windsor, ON is so unorganized and out of order. The managers are very rude. They talk behind your back about how terrible you are and sometimes brings it up to the costumers. I dread going into work sometimes I cry before. I feel harassed, bullied, and humiliated at times. I feel like I cannot do anything right. The hours are terrible and exhausting because the managers/ key holders have you doing everything while they are in the backroom using their phones or eating. We, as sales associates are left on our owns at times with the responsibility of the fitting rooms, cashier, go backs, and stock.

I absolutely love my job at Torrid, it’s a family-like environment and I couldn’t praise the staff enough. Management is wonderful and willing to help you through your beginning months and shape you into the best sales person you can be.
The job itself is fast paced and keeps you on your toes during busy hours, but there’s always something to do.
The only downside about this position is the job security, the hours cannot be guaranteed which can make it hard for some. If you apply, don’t expect more than 2 shifts a week, however, those shifts won’t feel like work as you’re surrounded with loving co-workers & enthusiastic customers.

I really enjoyed everyone I worked with at Torrid, I think my only complaint would be the hours. Working at the mall, it’s kind of an obvious that your hours are gonna not be so great, but I wasn’t expecting 2-3hr shifts, to be honest.
Best part of the job, or any retail job, will always be being the cashier, and the worst is probably closing. Making sure all the hangers are facing the same way, swiffering two times. Y’know stuff like that.

I haven’t worked here since 2022, so I’m usure if things remain the same, or if anybody I worked with at that time even work here anymore, but if they do, you’ll enjoy (almost) everyone!

Accommodating with your availability, great staff and decent product. It can be a fast pace enviroment but has its slow moments. 

It is your typical retail job but if you're a plus size girl it is a great place to work. The atmosphere is comfortable and it is fun learning about all that goes into the product. I.e manufacturing, sizing, fit. Etc. 

And the feeling you get when you have a customer who finds torrid for the first time, often times is overwhelming. It's a good feeling helping someone else feel great and comfortable in their own skin, all it takes is clothes that fit properly!

Expected you to be available at all times but would never schedule you for more than 4 hours so they legally don't need to give you any breaks..

Expect you to keep over a certain average of units sold per week as if you have any real control over how many items a customer wants to buy, get punished and threatened with being fired if you do not make that quota

Good luck actually getting full time hours even if on paper you are considered a full time employee, the turnover rate is insane because management will treat you like dirt and then expect you to act like you love the company and are appreciative of every lowly opportunity given to you.



Working with Torrid was an amazing learning experience. It is the leading company in Women's Plus Size Fashion in Canada. The work environment at Torrid is an empowerment to all women everywhere. With a diverse team. I was blessed to have been apart of this amazing team. I was able to connect with customers on a professional and personal level. Helping women too be confident and empowering them to embrace who they are. Having been a new company to Canada I was able to be apart of its stores growth. At times it was challenging but I enjoy a challenge.
