Trailwood Transport

During my employment with Trailwood, the pay was quite low compared to other trucking companies. Instead of giving out annual raises, they would give out a small bonus cheque on your employment anniversary date.

Most dispatchers were friendly, but they were very disorganized. There was a lot of miscommunication about loads and load times, which led to unpaid wait times at the dock. This was a major pet peeve of mine, because most trucking companies will pay you for wait times if it's not the driver's fault. I would wait 3 hours for a load because a dispatcher got the wrong time, and I wouldn't get paid a cent for it. This type of situation occurred frequently.

The turnover rate is quite high here. I saw a lot of drivers walk through the door and walk out in a very short period of time. Their complaints centered around low pay, long hours and overall company disorganization. 

I don't recommend this company for new drivers. I observed a number of new drivers struggle when they first started. Trailwood doesn't send trainers with new drivers for the first couple of days, so tasks like navigating through the Honda Plant (or other auto plants) and obeying all the rules and procedures at various plants can become a real headache. There are other trucking companies that have better training programs for new drivers.

The trucks and trailers are mostly new, and they pay a lot of attention to equipment repairs, so I have no complaints about the equipment. Most drivers don't leave their garbage in the trucks and the trucks are washed every week. But every truck is equipped with a dashcam and a microphone, so don't expect a lot of privacy. Drivers are not assigned their own trucks, so you get whatever is in the yard.

The bottom line is that I would avoid working for this company. Low pay, no raises, unpaid wait times all contributed to a meager paycheque. There are other trucking companies that pay better and treat their drivers with more respect.

I've worked with the company for a short time, around 7 months. At first, I had a few equipment issues but after mentioning them to management, they worked on fixing the problem, and did so very quickly. They were also a big help with training, which I needed a bit of when I started. 

The equipment they offer is newer and in good shape. Automatic transmission if you so choose. And the trailers rarely have any issues, and if they do, they're fixed in a fast manner. 

Dispatch is well trained and are informative and helpful when you call them. I would recommend driving for them and seeing what they have to offer.

Wages are poor. The on call every 2 weeks your working 14 hours for free. Your expected to take the laptop home which has no battery and use your own wifi for company use and no reimbursement. The other dispatchers are over whelmed and frazzled. Too many mistakes and you are left holding the bag trying to sort things out and no help from anyone else on your own time. Full time drivers for most part are good. The owner operators do their own thing. Break too many laws and trailwood let's them get away with it cuz they deliver the loads.

Trailwood is willing to consider many options before deciding on one course of action they think outside the box and encourage you to do the same 

But we still have to stay within the parameters of the guidelines set before us


Dispatch was good, they listened to any problems I had and tried to solve them. Customs paperwork that the staff completed was always good and in order. If there were any concerns, the owner would also try and come up with a fix/solution. Trailers and tractors were always kept in great, functional condition; Ryder Rental maintained the tractors. Tractors are never over three years old.

Very good and up to date equipment, very friendly staff and dispatch, honestly did not have a single issue with any members of staff or equipment, only left as the pay rate was low but otherwise a great atmosphere and company 

A typical work day at Trailwood Transport is long hours, alone. Need to work on communication skills but besides that they are ok. For a OTR driver you hardly ever see any other co workers, the hardest part of the job is trying to get all the required paperwork in on time. The most enjoyable part is going home after a 70 hour week.

Trailwood is a good company that caters to the automotive sector,  this sector is constantly changing and work does fluctuate.  Trailwood is a very good company to work for they are family owned an run and have a good reputation in the industry.

Worked for Trailwood for 3 years the wait times for loads and relaods sometimes takes over 4 hours unpaid and then expcted you to run over your hours to be at customer on time
