They have insane work/life/balance issues, because they have basically adopted Japanese standards, and work ethics. It is incredibly unhealthy, and I have never seen a place that has such unrealistic demands on their employees. Even the managers are ALWAYS doing overtime, still that isn't enough for them to complete their tasks because there's always something else to do. 

You are basically "forced" to stay overtime during closings and help out everyone, or else they will make you feel bad about yourself. Everyone there is always so tired, a normal day at the job induces headaches, backpain and dizziness because of dehydration and other factors.  The people there though are very lovely, but everyone is so pressured by the higher-ups that they are stressed beyond normal levels. Even if the managers wanted to be nice, they can't because in the end it falls back on them. 

The work itself, is not that hard, it is just demanding! You WILL be rushed to do everything in a timed manner. The work hours are long, but time goes by quickly because you are always doing something, so that's a bonus in my book, BUT you will basically lose your whole day if you aren't doing an opening shift.

The customer service is insanely forced. The way they want you to approach it is basically, think of how a sociopath that would study someone and regurgitate what he learned in his next interaction. There's not one single ounce of EQ that goes into it, you will feel like a robot if you do exactly what they say and it just doesn't come out naturally.

Each month you will be evaluated. If you think you came here to escape school, studying and exams, oh boy you are in for a treat. If you wish to advance in the company and get a generous bonus of 1 dollarrrr!!! and a half ( for the first promotion ). You will have to get an average score of 80 in your monthly self-evaluation! Then pass an exam that you will have to study for yay! Note that the average score for every normal sales associate is around 30 if you start out, you will probably have like 5-10 points. Anyhow, those evals are a mean to improve yourself, and see your flaws and your strenghts, sounds like a good idea on paper. But it makes you feel like a number. That's why most employee ignore it and don't even evaluate themselves each month. Don't bother if you aren't looking for a promotion. Oh also, the more up you go, the more demanding and the more overtime you will be doing so good luck with that. You will live, breathe and be Uniqlo! So I suggest doing the bare minimum and stay as low as you can. That's how you survive and live a good life there. 

Overall an ok job, you get paid more than minimum but remember, it's just a job, and don't take it too seriously, like some people out there! :D

Here are some of my experience at Uniqlo Richmond Centre. 

Positives:
-Above Minimum Wage Pay: Uniqlo pays $2 above the minimum wage, which is certainly a plus. It reflects their commitment to providing competitive compensation.

-Promotion Opportunities: The company offers a chance for advancement every three months, which is a great incentive for employees looking to grow within the organization.

-Friendly Co-workers: I had the privilege of working with friendly and supportive co-workers, which made the daily grind more enjoyable.

Negatives:
-Communication Breakdown: One of the significant drawbacks was the lack of effective communication between management and employees. Clear and consistent communication is vital for a productive work environment.

-Favouritism and Treatment of Employees: Unfortunately, there appeared to be a noticeable bias towards employees hired through different means, who were granted faster advancement opportunities. What was even more concerning was how employees who did not meet the company's "standard" were treated poorly. 

-Unrealistic Standards: The company often set unrealistic standards for employees, making tasks more difficult than necessary. These high expectations could lead to stress and burnout among the workforce, and it's essential for the company to strike a balance between setting ambitious goals and ensuring employees can realistically achieve them.

-Stressful Visits from Higher-Ups: Almost weekly visits from higher-ups created a stressful work environment for leaders, which, unfortunately, trickles down to employees. This constant scrutiny and pressure from management negatively impacted the team's morale and performance. 

-Rude Customers: Dealing with difficult customers can take a toll on employees' well-being. This was especially pronounced in my experience in Richmond, where customer behaviour could be challenging.

Anyone wanting to apply please carefully weigh the positives and negatives. The company has its strengths, such as competitive pay and promotion opportunities, but there are clear areas for improvement, including communication, managing unrealistic standards, and addressing the stressful impact of frequent visits from higher-ups. I hope to see these issues addressed and resolved in the near future to create a more positive and equitable work environment for all employees.




This company is literally a cult advertised as a Japanese way of business. You are micromanaged and controlled to the point of being told how you are to speak, how you are to stand, how you are to look, how you are to smile. All these things are literally in the handbook. 

You are in a militant environment, standing in a lineup, like the army, reciting their promises and practices. If you don’t memorize and know it, you will be disciplined. 

You will be forced to take on roles and responsibilities without permission and without any proper training. And when you cannot perform due to the lack of training, you again will be disciplined. You are not even compensated for the extra roles and responsibilities you have to take on. 

Time targets are super unrealistic and you are constantly being forced to be faster, and more “efficient”. You will never be good enough for them and their standards, that’s the reality of things. You will always be told what you’re doing wrong and why you’re bad at your job. Not a genuine thank you or appreciation. They literally say “Thank you for your hardwork.” before every sentence but it an empty phrase they use constantly. 

Yes the pay is a bit higher than other employees but not at the cost of your mental health and life. The turnover rate is incredibly high and everyone who is working all wants to quit and leave. Everyone is super unhappy but we’re forced to smile and be cheery for the customers. 

This company also runs on “customer is always right”. So even if you follow strict policies, they will ALWAYS make exceptions for the customers and make it look like you’re the bad person. They do not practice what they preach and will bend over backwards for customers, but for their own staff, can’t even give a genuine thank you. 

They will also always give you false hope and promises. Always saying they see “potential” in you but never help you grow or get there. They string you along for so long to the point of exhaustion that when you express concerns, they say those same things to you again, and the toxic cycle starts back up. 

They say there is no retaliation when concerns are brought up but it’s the complete opposite. They will withhold opportunities from you and will not allow you to learn things to grow. 

You are watched at every moment and every movement is followed. If you are at all acting “suspicious” even the slightest, you are interrogated like a criminal. 

Keep in mind this location is the biggest Uniqlo in Canada, so yes it is a big store. Thankfully its split into 3 teams. 
Management is honestly very flexible could easily call out, or reschedule for another time/day, as a student that's very practical. I personally didn't have any issues with managers, expect when they expected more then I could handle. 
For reference Uniqlo is a Japanese company which is quite different then North American standards. The store is pretty much expected to look perfect. Which is honestly frustrating because so many people shop and mess up clothes. Ill work in one area and then a leader or manger tells me I should be folding/cleaning this area and this area. As an employee it gets on our nerves (other employees relate) like my guy I cant be everywhere. The store can be extremely busy on weekends, most of the time weekdays are dead especially in the mornings. 
Now for closing, closing usually take 1h to 2h, yes sometimes they will keep you longer in the store. Most of it consists of either tidying a section (folding, organizing, and making sure we have all the sizes), or running (you get a tote on wheels and add cloths on the floor. Both tasks can be quite demanding especially tidying. They expect it to be flawless, everything size ordered, pants tags must be aligned, and any hanging tag must be hidden, and it is extremely tedious, what's worst is when a manager looks over you section and nothing is up to there standard so you must make it even better. Despite knowing customers are gonna mess it up in 2 seconds. I understand it must look clean and presentable but it doesn't have to be perfect customers are gonna rummage threw the clothes anyways. 
Now for Training, it wasn't great, there was one day of training and then a leader or manger helping you out for the rest. Most of the training is just experience, like they never trained us how to answer calls expect saying welcome to Uniqlo. 
Employees honestly overall most of the employees are very sweet and its easy to have conversations and even befriend them, which is nice for a work environment. Majority of store associates will be young adults, also the employees are very diverse which is awesome to see.

I applied here since I saw their job posting for new hires, so I gave it a shot. However, it can be stressful most of the time, especially if your Full Time.
Their system is kind of odd, as you will not be staying in your post and constantly doing different  tasks in short periods of time. For example, I would be on the cash register, helping customers for half an hour, and then switched to stock room for another half hour or so, then switched to fitting room. Staff are constantly running back and forth doing all kinds of tasks, sometimes ignoring and leaving customers  unattended or waiting for assistance.

They have very strict folding, presentation rules in that everything must be presented in complete perfection and in an unrealistic time. (You have only like 5-10 seconds to fold shirts, dresses, and pants) and may have to redo it, if your supervisor does not approve the presentation.
It's wierd, that most of the merchandise on the sales floor are not folded or presented properly, and no one seems to notice, which leaves the question, "What's the point of having everything  perfect when there's constant  imperfections that needs attention?" There are also many terms you need to remember such as  types of shelves, fixtures which all have names which can get confusing at times. There are over a dozen different  terms you're expected to know and it's very easy to get confused especially when your on your own. 

Hours are very long. No paid breaks. You may have two half and hour breaks, and you still feel tired. Supervisors from what I've observed, seem to goof off most of the time, laughing and joking with each other, where they should be checking on the status of the store and their employees. Most of them are young people, and I find their management and attitude questionable, although the manager is alright.

Honestly, for new hires, its easier to make friends and connections as we all are trying to adapt and improve. But working with the senior staff, about half of them don't seem to want to help you or expect you to know everything, sometimes giving you attitude for asking a question. For me, I just shrug it off and do my best to complete my tasks. 

In conclusion, stressful, too fast to pick up, too many expectations from new hires, inconsistent management, and favoritism.


I understand that the company has to take profit into consideration when making schedules and giving away man hours, however, my experience at this company regarding scheduling has been atrocious. There were times when the weekly schedule is out, and they would make changes after it has been released without telling employees about it, causing people to come in at the wrong times and even THE WRONG DAYS. i feel like it's okay to make changes, but let the person know? there were also instances where my store had to support another store in the same city, which meant sending some of our employees there for certain days during the week, and they would not tell us. There were 3 people that came during that week to our store even though their shift was supposed to be at the other location. POOR COMMUNICATION. Recently my store hasn't been reaching our targets per day which resulted in cutting hours. however, they literally hired 14 people the week before, i'm guessing to prep for the peak season, which really affected the part timers (me). I am averaging 10 hrs a week, and 3 weeks ago, they called me ON HOUR before my shift to ask if i can come in later (essentially cutting my 8 hrs to 4), and then just this weekend, they texted me ON HOUR before again, to CANCEL my shift. literally told me not to come in. If i was commuting that day, I would've already been on my way. And for both instances, the reasoning was because we were not making enough money. 

In terms of their expectations, it is so unrealistic. They want everything to be done correctly and perfectly in unrealistic time targets. My full- time coworkers are constantly burnt out. even during the slow season because of the tasks given to them, and although the managers that I've had are nice, the area managers haven't been. they want the store to be 100% A-rank but then cut hours leaving a small team with a bunch of tasks. I could honestly go on and on but I've wasted enough time blabbering about this company.

Worst thing about uniqlo at burlington mall is the poor management. Management constantly overworks employees by giving strict time limits to complete tasks, publicly harasses employees for not doing work to manager's satisfaction in front of customers, causing multiple employees to quit/resign, constant poor communication.

No proper training program, but high expectations for good quality work. Training consists of a 2-3 hour walkthrough of most tasks that a staff member should know how to do. Then the staff member becomes independent from training and works from that point. Within the first 2-3 weeks that a staff member works, typically they will come across a task that they do not know how to do properly because of poor training. Instead of management calmly and appropriately demonstrating the task and teaching the staff members, management will publicly humiliate staff member for not knowing how to do task  with the question "Why don't you know how to do this?"

Management doesn't listen to employees' requests about assignments and tasks. Constantly forgets to send certain people on breaks or makes staff go to break late or leave their shift later than their scheduled end. Many staff members have tried telling management that everyone prefers to change roles often (e.g., fitting room for 1-2 hours, then move on to running for 1-2 hours, then tidying for 1-2 hours) to not burn out during the shift. However, management doesn't implement this and leaves employees to work in certain tasks and roles for 4-5 hours straight causing burn out and frustration in employees. 

The job overall teaches you great work ethic that you can take with you in future careers. Gave me the chance to try things I'd never done before and opportunities to take on leadership roles. Management was AMAZING for the first 1.5 years I worked there, I was quite sad when they left. Since management is moved around often, you face the chance to get rough ones, hence why I hated the last 1.8 years I worked. Management was the reason I quit, literally made me cry on my last day and put me on duties that I had stated I medically could not do anymore just to show off to the CEO. HR threatened to hold my paycheque after quitting after a few months. Weird because they did not do that to my other friends/coworkers despite them quitting or being let go. Once again, my coworkers were AMAZING and was able to develop relationships. Work-life balance was good too, often went out in groups after long work shifts. Benefits were also good too for full time employees and the job paid a bit above minimum wage. Honestly would be a great place to work if you work part-time so you don't have to deal with management!!

Be prepared to work long hours and work hours that are not your set availability. I had set my availability to half open and half closing shifts and only received all closing. Expect shifts that are 9 hours long anywhere from 7:30am to 11pm. You are not allowed to leave until the sales floor leader allows you to (even if your shift is done) and you may be forced to work 44 hours a week (they wouldn’t do more than 44 because they don’t want to pay you overtime pay).

It is impossible to get promoted and the work is not worth it for the pay at all. Everything is scheduled and timed, leaders and managers need to be aware of what you’re doing and where you are at every second. Nepotism is also seen throughout my whole time there, the ones that kiss up to the managers or take credit for others work are the ones to get promoted so don’t work harder than you have to. 

Toxic environment as well, everyone will gossip about everyone, the entire staff is incredibly immature. And don’t expect management to have compassion or empathy; they asked for proof when an employee had to book off a day to attend a funeral. You get paid only two dollars above minimum wage and are working so much harder than management. If you don’t get things done on time, you get reprimanded for it. Overall, the worst place to work and there is no future here. 

listen to the reviews!!! i have worked several jobs before working here and never have i worked somewhere where all of the employees are so incredibly unhappy at work. the only pros would be the coworkers, hours and the decent pay, otherwise it is not worth it at all. all the sales associates are friendly but you're also all connecting over how awful the workplace is, essentially forming some sort of trauma bond lol. you truly feel like you're at bootcamp and have no room to make mistakes or learn. the training is extremely intensive and the managers run the store like it’s a high end luxury store and expect you to do the same. they expect basically robotic customer service, a completely SPOTLESS store at all times, and they’re unapproachable. their rules are so unrealistic, like not crossing your arms or not walking "too fast" (which someone got fired over), and in the training they tell you how to smile according to their standards and forbidden words to use at work, like "hey" (literally not even joking) . people are constantly quitting which is why the store is always hiring, but they don't change their approach to training or treating their employees. i would only apply here if you have absolutely no other options and have been in the army before because that's exactly the sort of training and treatment you will receive.
