the staff is fantastic, 
the management is great.
the hours are long , the return on investment is low based on the hours we work,
Each day is very different, if the weather is good the phone is ringing and the jobs are there, if the weather is poor ( winter) times are a lot tougher finding sales.
Enjoy the fact that I get to speak to a variety of customers from home owners to contractors to large builders. Each with their own needs and wants.

This is a Canadian company supporting all local people. They 
 will train anyone oh wants to learn. Room to grow

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy all the time makes the day fly by

contractors would come in the morning to purchase supplies, then the regular customer would come in during the rest of the day. at times i would be hard to get co-workers to do minor jobs or tasks because they felt that because they have been there for so long that they don't have to do these tasks..

Lots of bad attitudes there. Someone is always willing to throw you under the bus for something. Bad conflict resolution by management. the wages are bad for whats expected of you. The equipment is not suited for the job example forklifts are not for outdoor production. no heat for winter and bald tires to work with in icy conditions carrying alot of weight on them.

When hired the manager and team were good to deal with, and the company owners were somewhat involved with the operation.
Fast forward 2 years New management with no experience in this industry and no involvement from the owners, high turnover, no tolerance for your personal life it got in the way of business Including the death of a family member. Stay away High turnover these

They expect you to do everything from ordering stock for the store to handling all walk in customers, special orders, plus merchandising, key holder duties, getting new customers, cutting glass/keys and much more. Sales manager of the lumber desk should not be in charge of any merchandising that should be someone else's JOB for the entire store. 

Enjoyed my job for 5 yrs, shipping and receiving, stock ordering and returns, Totally loved it till cut backs, Hardware store, involved with data entry of stock. Cominicating with customers daily.

Working at home hardware was an overall good experience. It taught me many customer service skills that I may not have acquired elsewhere. There was little room to grow as there is in most retail environments.

Pay is garbage. 
Job security is non existent.
Kids inside shooting each other with nail guns.
Managers don't care about you.
Guy training in the yard was miserable every day and wouldn't teach you.


Worked in yard....never saw store mgr or general meet outside other than once...both stood with hands in their pockets while 5 sales guys tried to help approximately 9 customers...very poor example of customer service.
