I worked for Univar for about 3 years and generally enjoyed my time there. I met some great friends, and made some professional connections that have helped me in the future. The company is forward thinking, as they put effort into ensuring everyone is treated equally, and marginalized people have a voice.

While the company has positives, there are some prevailing negatives. There is a lot of in-fighting amongst union and office employees, and there is a general sour opinion warehouse has for office staff and vice versa. The toxicity has been there for a long time, and there some attempts to go beyond the Collective Agreement limits. Warehouse staff have a lot of interpersonal conflicts, and there is a general lack of accountability. If an employee is disciplined for a conduct issue, they immediately go on stress leave. 

Closer to my departure, relationships started to improve, however its a cycle tied to Collective Bargaining. 

Great benefits, awesome retirement plan, Flex Spending Account, and lots of training and development opportunities. 

Univar used to be a good place to work for. It is now, perhaps, somewhere that can give you some experience so you can leave to go to a real company. 
Everyone says great things about you on your face and then trash you behind your back. 

Working there is becoming each day more and more stressful. 
Management in Alberta is a boys club. They only care about themselves and their big bonuses. 

Sales team complains, but they are really well taken care of. 

All the other departments that support sales are treated like we are doing them a favour. 
Yes, we do get a yearly bonus! Yay! But that's not enough for 2 weeks' grocery; people in sales can make at least half of your yearly salary just in bonus - not to mention that their fixed salary is above most everyone else's.

Horrible culture, extreme low morale, REALLY underpaid. Can't wait to find anything else. 

They bragged themselves about job stability, even though they paid less than the market. This is no longer true and they keep with the low salaries!!

Started with Univar Winnipeg in 1999 and worked till I retired in 2013.
This company was a great place to work with all people getting along and looking out for each other and management got involved with all workers as in taking the time to just have a conversation about you and your family, and relay took a interest in what you had to say. I was there long enough to see this company change hands four times and with each change there were changes in procedures and management and with each change was a lose of that family feeling we had at first and by the time I left it was not as enjoyable anymore because we were owned by a large numbered company and were run by a board of directors that was only interested in the bottom line,but times change and so do workplace polices but it is still a great place to work but just not the same.

This probably has been the highlight of my career of 19 years. Univar provides excellent culture to its employees where they feel very comfortable to work. Due to excellent hygiene factors, employees feel obliged to contribute not only towards day to day tasks but also strive towards continuous improvement. There is very healthy worker-management relationship where workers like to contribute without any pressure from their management. Workers are encouraged to share their ideas in order to improve the work and working conditions.

Univar Canada has succumb to corporate overlords who value shareholders more than employees. The company is trying very hard to 'globalize' and 'unify' but this is nothing more than a front to force American leadership and values upon the globe. This was once a great Canadian driven company with strong values and talented localized teams, working hard to get build relationships with customers and get them product on time. Management has become shortsighted and the future is bleak for this company. There is a reason many do not find themselves here for long, there is more interesting work and better pay elsewhere!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Coworkers, middle management were easy to get along with and very helpful.
There equipment was modern and well maintained.

Warehouse location system needed more clarity

It was your average place to work safety is important not much culture to speak off.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You had a weekly routine other than the odd suprise order it was laid back

Univar Canada was a great company to work for, 28 out of the 31 years of service. The last 3 years were challenging as new management was introduced bringing along new work ethics. Univar was a fun place to work and my colleagues worked very hard. A Typical day of work started of with a walk through the facility ensuring safety protocols were being followed and any issues employees had. from that I was involved in many meetings with managers,contractors and suppliers.

Fantastic management and team made me feel really valuable during my time at Univar. Work was stressful at times but management and other team members were quick to offer help and solutions, and to redistribute some work among other team members. They bought the whole office lunch constantly, as well. Absolute five-star place to work. I highly recommend Univar.

Univar Canada is a fantastic school. If a person is willing to learn and eager to participate there will be plenty of opportunities to shine. Customer Service is considered the heart of the organization. The hardest part of the job would have to be relying on other departments to do their parts with as much enthusiasm as you do. 
The most enjoyable part is definitely the people. The friends you make are friends you will keep for life.

-50 weather there is no stoping work

Culture is great at our site , all of trully work together to get things done. A smooth transition when we’re working like a well oiled machine
