I don’t recommend any one work here unless they are wanting to be stressed out. It’s not hard getting hired but you yourself will eventually want to quit. The managers are incredibly bias, your breaks are not spaced out properly, top floor does not have ac, people talk sh-it behind your back and you’ll notice it. Everyone that worked here before me quit and so did I. Watever they mentioned was right. The manager herself chills out on her phone most times while your stressing out, they’ll assign you multiple tasks at once while some employees have none. I was told I would be cash trained but never was for a whole year. This company doesn’t stay on track, most times the manager would even tell us to not help a customer or instead lie and say we couldn’t. I quit by ghosting I hated these people a straight pain in the a** and they haven’t paid me for the previous work before I quit. The manager needs to get her sh** together or not long before others start complaining and she gets kicked out. If I don’t get my money this chick won’t last long. Oh last thing to mention even as a part time your schedule has no flexibility and you’ll get written up for your sick calls, I called in sick first time and she word for word said “you better not be lying, it’s not hard for me to find things out” I felt completely uncomfortable and felt bad for being sick. 

A typical day at work was always filled with fun, we had a great team that got along great with one another we were all really close.  The customers were great I made alot of connections with customers. I learned how to work along side the management team and how to make the store visually appealing.  I learned how to deal with unpleasant customers in a professional way and the procedures for opening and closing the store.  The management team was great and very understanding they always looked at our point of view when we were faced with a problem.  The co-workers also were great we all made long lasting friendships and get along like a family we had team outings just to go out and have fun with one another.  The hardest part of the job was dealing with unpleasant customers.  No one likes unpleasant customers we all approach them differently and have our ways with dealing with their needs but sometimes it can be more difficult.  I always stayed clam and collective I gave the customer what they wanted and made sure they understood the policy if it was needed.  The whole job was enjoyable I love the customers and helping them when needed.  Customers make the job enjoyable.

The workload at Urban Behaviour is typical for any retail/clothing store: folding clothes for displays, monitoring fitting rooms, and working the cash register. I learned how to use their Point Of Sales system. However, the management team often seemed unwelcoming, especially towards high school students. The workplace culture was at times uncomfortable, particularly for someone in a minority group. There were frequent instances of subtle and overt insensitivities. When informing the manager about these issues, they often dismissed them, saying it was not a significant concern. Many problems were brushed off as normal, and when pointing out something clearly wrong, managers would simply assign another task while ignoring the issue. This job was challenging due to the management team and some staff members who exhibited insensitive behavior. This was especially surprising since the hiring manager had emphasized how open and welcoming they are to people of all backgrounds. The only enjoyable aspects of this job were the light tasks and its convenient location near my house and school.

During my interview, they said i would be paid $14/hour even after I mentioned I was a student (under 18), and that didn't happen despite them reassuring me it would. Which is understandable because why pay a student extra when legally you only have to pay them $13.15? That's not all though. The management was terrible, managers would walk around and scold you for doing something one way and each manager never spoke to the other about this, so you were constantly ridiculed for doing what they said. All the employees were constantly on edge because people were being let go every week because the store wasn't making enough money. I personally had problems with one of the managers and not only did the others not do anything about it, they guilt me into not telling more higher-ups about the problem manager because they were friends and didn't want to risk the problem managers job. If you enjoyed the absolute worst parts about high school likes bullies and gossip and drama you should apply here, otherwise avoid it like the plague

They don't care about individual needs such as family time. Employees are expected to work even when they're not on-call. The on-call shifts are terrible because you're expected to call in 4hrs before your scheduled shift to find out if they need you to work or not. Sometimes they call you an hour before they want you to work and feel terrible if you say no. The only better part is working with the other employees who always try their best to see things running smoothly. What I don't appreciate at all is having to follow around harmless black customers who might come shopping as a family and get mistaken for shoplifters or those with mental health problems. Head office doesn't care about the employees especially when it comes to their well being in the summer; there's no A/C just ONE FAN on the whole sales floor. They will keep losing the best ones because there is no personal life and work balance, they are just there to use you and pay you minimum when you're making them millions.

In terms of a typical day at work, it often felt chaotic and disorganized. There was a lack of clear direction and structure, which made it challenging to accomplish tasks efficiently. Instead of having a well-defined routine, each day seemed to bring new challenges and obstacles to overcome. Unfortunately, management at Urban Behaviour left much to be desired. There was a noticeable lack of support and guidance from upper management, which made it difficult to effectively lead my team. Decisions often seemed arbitrary and inconsistent, leading to frustration and confusion among staff members. The workplace culture at Urban Behaviour was toxic and unhealthy. There was a pervasive sense of negativity and distrust among employees, which had a detrimental impact on morale and productivity. Instead of fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, there was a constant sense of competition and backstabbing.

The start of the day would be store opening counting all cashes making sure correct amount of money is there. Checking the inventory coming in and making  sure we have enough staff to complete the job. Creating a floor plan to make sure enough staff is scheduled for proper floor coverage. A store walk through with the visual team to ensure all marketing directions are complete. The morning staff need to make sure that housekeeping is up to company standards. A one minute meeting must be  communicated to everyone to make sure we have a successful day, and everyone is on the same page. As a manager an example of good customer service, professional communication skills, and creating a welcome and happy environment for customer must be set for your staff.

Staff is extremely cliquey. Managers are just mean. The job itself was enjoyable, tons of cute kids and babies and families come in and it's truly enjoyable to help them. Especially with finding gifts and holiday items! The only problem I had was the horrible staff. I can't believe the number of adult bullies. Also you never know when you are going to get off. Even if the schedule says you are off at 9, you could be there until 11 because of the managers. If the morning crew doesnt clean, the night crew it left (AFTER HOURS and PAST scheduled hours) to do it with no repercussion to the morning crew. Managers play favourites hard, if they dont like you, they wont fire you. Just belittle you until you quit.

Like any other retail position, I enjoyed the fast pace and hands-on work environment, as well as my coworkers. the hours at first were great and you get more than a 4hour shift which was great! Some things I will critic is the fact that they over-hired, which resulted in very few shifts after opening (I honestly didn't mind but many of my coworkers lived independently so having fewer hours was detrimental for them.) I had previous sales experience however many did not and were trained on the spot which was slightly unorganized but very common in stores in general. The only qualms with management were that each person had a different answer whether it came to scheduling or taking time off. If I were to apply again I would take full time instead.

I've learned so much about clothing items and working as a sales associate has made me more comfier and confident about myself. My manager would always make the work environment fun, the co-workers were lovely and amazing to be around with. Everyone I worked with made me feel like I was at home and wanted. I made friends right away, they are all outgoing, nice people and would love to work in retail again. It was such a fun experience working at Urban Behavior. Someday's work would be slow but it was only because it's in a weird location in the mall and people wouldn't recognize our store or they would think it would be a West 49. But overall, I love working there!
