The frontline teams are supportive, collaborative, and genuinely committed to delivering good service to clients. Training at the entry and mid-level is adequate, and colleagues are often willing to help one another succeed.

However, the biggest challenge lies in senior management and long-term leadership direction. There appears to be a lack of a clear strategic vision for the company’s future. Decisions are often reactive rather than proactive, with frequent changes in priorities that create uncertainty and inefficiency. Long-term planning, innovation, and cross-department alignment are limited, which makes it difficult for employees to understand how their work contributes to broader organizational goals. Communication from senior leadership could also be more transparent and consistent.

In summary, while the compensation and team environment are strong positives, the absence of a coherent long-term strategy and effective senior leadership limits growth opportunities and overall organizational stability.

Due to politics, you never have a chance to advance upward. I worked with VanCity for 13 years and when I wanted to advance upwards, my manager, thought I wasn't ready.

It wasn't because I wasn't ready. It was because he knew I had established great business communications with the members of the branch and in losing me, he would be at a great loss. Thus, embossing with me with the 'stamp' of not being ready to be promoted yet. I fell apart and called the HR department who dismissed my grievance because my boss had called them first and told whatever story he told them.

It's a cruel world and I still miss working at VanCity and loved the culture that the Head Office had developed. I wish I never came to Surrey to work here because it was the end of my career with VanCity. If only VanCity could see this.

I went on to work for other financial institutions and achieved my promotions and increase in pay, however, I still miss the culture that we had when working with VanCity and achieving 8-10 loan and mortgage applications per day. I enjoyed working hard in an environment where I knew I could possibly grow and get promoted. When this didn't happen, it tore me apart as a person - not just as an employee.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working here when I started was excellent great training, mentorship lots of support. Then it turned into a lot of pressure for signing Visa cards and bringing in mutual funds and new money to the bank and there was targets and if you didn’t meet them, you had one on one meetings with your supervisor one on one meetings with training with no real support.
I personally am not a sales person so this job was misrepresented to me and was a waste of my time.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upselling and trying to get members to dign up for a visa or mutual funds 
We had huge individual targets

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Remote - I really like working from home.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very stressful, felt tied to the phone, felt guilty if I needed water or the washroom when I was not on a break

* A typical day at Vancity is very busy with long line up and everyone is focus at member service to help members.
* I have learned to help Members by understanding their needs in timely manner and provide them high level of quality customer service and respond their inquiries. Provide technical support to front line to help them in product knowledge, using tools, policy and procedures and solving problems etc.
* Provide your manager your best advise, respond all emails and inquiries within time. Work effectively and with full commitment on the task assigned by the manager.
* Always help co-workers or ask for help from them and work as a team to reach goals and sales targets.
* The hardest part of the job is not having answer to every question,need to spend more time on resources.
* The most enjoyable part of the job is lot of learning and advancement.

All good untill Covid hit, we never stopped working but we had to adjust by supporting the Call Center, it was fun but we were expected to continue targeting our sales, but from the in person to a voice via headphone the experience changes the approach. At the Branch with the glass, masks it was more difficult the communication and Members were frustrated with how slow the processing of transactions can be, correcting errors...it came a very stressful work environment and had a leave of absence, but not Manager or HHRR were helpful in any way to change me from FT to PT, silence and bouncing from one to the other, but insisting on a day to come back, felt the pressure and decided my peace is more important than work and chose to leave Vancity.

all you need to know is to not pursue unless 3 shifts a week is enough for you, otherwise many other factors come into play to challenge your experience in continuing to be positive. promotion is seniority-based, as is signing up for extra shifts, and favoritism or those with seniority give shifts to those they like instead of a fair an equal opportunity for all interested. if that suits you, it is a 24/7 environment and you may work late or overnight to start, and be assigned extra shifts on your days off if nobody else opts in for them. the benefits are great and the company as a whole is worth being a part of, and your character matters more than your skills as  skills can be developed.

The place is nice and long time employees are happy and loyal. But unless you negotiated a good deal for your job when you joined, the salary is not that good, and I did not find the benefit that remarkable as the rest of colleagues said but they had tailoring to the medical benefit and i guess that was really useful for a lot of people.
I learned ofcourse there but I did not see advancement opportunities. The culture is nice and the most enjoyable part is that colleagues are mostly nice and supportive but it can get political at sometimes.
Overall nice workplace but make sure you get good offer and have good relation with the manager, it determines a lot.

There excessive amounts of nepotism has overshadowed its once great reputation. False concepts of community create a feeling of betrayal. Gossip and popularity trump work ethic and education. Experience is not respected, nor appreciated and self worth while working there will hit all time lows. 

Hiding behind benefits, and marketing give outsiders a false sense of understanding. Make no mistake, years will be taken from you that you cannot get back, work towards a better future than regret. 

There are a few good people there to work with, however slowly they are being forced to leave or are being changed by the organization.

The company is hiring like crazy, because the new banking system is so slow that it creates line ups - both in branches and call centre. 
The corporate culture is full of Kool-Aid, and if you don't drink it, forget about promotion. The new management is futile, because they are promoted based on brown-nosing, some of them - if not most of them - have no related experience to the areas they are trying to lead. 
Some newly hired people were fired in a matter of months - think before you apply.
They are changing the full-time permanent positions to contract - and the contracts are not extended. This way employees are not getting benefits - what a way to save money on the employees.

A typical day at work is processing invoices and employee expenses. Answering queries to vendors and employees re. payment status and other vendor related concerns. I developed myself to be a real team player on this job. To help each other to meet deadlines. I also improved my customer service skills. My co-workers would like to enjoy the sunshine by the seawall if the weather is really nice. My company supports healthy life style so you would see a lot of people running during their lunch breaks. The hardest part of the job is the challenge to meet your deadlines during high volume and short staff. With I developed my time managing skills.
