This review is for the environmental consulting side of Vertex Resource Group.

The management of this company was very weak on the technical side yet they told the technical people how to do their jobs by handing down project workflow systems, report and table templates and SOPs, etc, without first getting any technical input from their senior technical people who actually knew what was needed for all those things. Then, after they implemented these systems, they never audited them to see if they worked or could've been improved by seeking feedback from their technical people who had to work with those systems, templates and SOPs. Then, when problems started appearing and projects were all going over-budget they blamed the project managers for it but the real cause of the problems was the inefficient and unworkable systems management put in place and their unwillingness to listen to or seek input from the project managers and senior project managers who's very job it was to execute the projects and produce the products that earned the company all of its revenues.

They didn't ask people what their career/work aspirations were and didn't appear to care much about that when I was there. They've had very high staff turnover and can't seem to keep their best talent from leaving to go to other companies. The people I worked with when I was there have all left and were bitter when they left so that should tell you something.

A lot of movement within the team, which makes it easier to learn quickly and move up.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The work environment was the most stressful part. Employees were often treated as replaceable rather than valued assets, and there were times where transparency with clients felt limited and revenue-focused decisions were prioritized over client trust.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture was very top-down, with limited psychological safety. It was difficult to speak up or ask questions without feeling judged, and the overall environment could feel tense and reactive. There were also moments where communication and decision-making did not always feel aligned with transparency, which made it challenging to build trust.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Day-to-day work often felt more focused on looking busy than doing meaningful work. Morale was low and continuing to decline, which made it difficult to stay motivated or feel invested.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I’ve worked with Vertex for over a year, and I must say the Dispatch team is doing an outstanding job. Their dispatch messages are always clear and precise, and I’ve never encountered any glitches or issues. It’s impressive how efficiently they handle operations. Keep up the great work!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working with Vertex is the occasional slow work periods, especially mid-year, and distant loading locations. However, with patience, these challenges are manageable and acceptable.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work culture feels like a close-knit community where everyone, including mechanics, works together with a smile and positivity.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I’m very grateful for the work. Every day is smooth, with no hard situations or rough driving.

I’ve had a great experience working here. The company truly fosters a positive and supportive culture where employees feel valued and respected. There are different divisions with different sun corporate cultures. Each division is therefore very cliquey. Certain roles can walk on water while others are in the pit working extremely hard and get no recognition. You can guess which group gets the big raises and which are told there is no money in the budget. There are positions that are overtime except and they work long hours and with no compensation. No banked hours. 
Management seems to be supportive but they need to re-evaluate the over time exempt rule especially for support staff. 
Would be great that work loads are examined, hire managers who know how to manage, and finally review the systems so there is more automation and less on manual spreadsheets to complete tasks. You will have a better more efficient work force if this current practice is eliminated.

Some good people on crew!! That’s it! Nothing else is great or good or worth it! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
From bad equipment to dispatch to management that can’t manage and has a little of management!! Unorganized, unfit equipment, no concern over safety!! Management to save their skin will throw you in to fire!!!  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Bad!! There isn’t any such thing as culture, respect, courtesy or team work other than the rare few guys that actually look out for you ax you do them for safe work or team work! 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful! Dispatch doesn’t provide sufficient info to job or job scope!! They are challenged in picking up phone calling client yet you as operator can do it no problem!!!

Worked 8 hours a day; fast paced; repetitive work; rotating door with all employees in all areas due to extremely poor management. Management seem to keep the worst employees and hire inexperienced managers. Higher-ups attack the exceptional employees because of back-stabbing managers. The best managers are always fired.  Even though Vertex made huge money, staff was not given raises. Typical corporate greed. Seems to me that Vertex wants to close the small rural offices. They seem to deliberately sabotage the best and keep the worst. Other employees only stay because work is hard to find. My heart breaks for those. But they will be gone with the first job offer elsewhere.  I would not ever recommend anyone working for this company.

Compensation at Vertex is very poor. Employees struggle to save money without extensive out of town work on 12 hour shifts; meanwhile, upper management awards itself 5 figure bonuses. 
Some middle management is trained from the ground up. They have a good understanding of the struggles of the employees under them, and try to minimize it. 
The benefits plan is mediocre at best, yet premiums still rise.
There are work sites where the time on site is not all paid, because of a client agreement. This boils down to working 13 hours and being paid for 11.5. Vertex management opted to simply pass this burden onto the employees.
In summary, there are no lower level employees not actively looking for better work.

Vertex is a very large company but the way it’s run is very sloppy . Refuse to pay good wage and expect perfection from a shop full of apprentices. Management has very little experience with running a shop . Micromanaging without knowledge sums up Vertex Grande Prairie . Apprentices get paid below standard wages and when they ask for a raise they receive disrespect and dishonesty. 
Great people to work with in the shop but not worth the headaches. 
Turn over of journey man mechanics is above average. They hire mechanics without knowledge of experience or reference checks . Wage has a major factor when the only people that apply are uneducated with no experience . 
My position at vertex was short but from what I saw and heard made it very easy to know this isn’t a long term gig . 

I have work for this company over 2 years and in that time I have had 3 different mangers and 6 coworkers leave the project I am on. With two of those being 3 weeks from hiring to quitting. I have had to take on more and more responsibility with no additional pay. Twice my supervisor/manger left the project and I took on their responsibilities until their replacement was hired without any talk about filling the position myself. With working long hours, weekends and training new hires the company has done nothing to compensate or reward my extra work and loyalty to the company. I had to fight to get a raise to keep up with inflation. 
The daily work is chaotic with miscommunications and information not being sent, and little organization of work or resources.
