My experience as a field sales representative with Wurth Canada was extremely disappointing and, frankly, misleading from the interview stage onward.

During the interview process, everything is positioned as being about support, resources, and how much help you’ll receive to succeed. The message is that you’ll be backed by the company and set up for success in the field. The reality could not be further from that narrative. Once hired, you’re largely on your own, with minimal meaningful support and constant pressure to perform against unrealistic metrics.

The base salary structure is, without question, the worst I have seen in my sales career. On top of that, the commission structure offers very little real earning potential. The products are so overpriced compared to the market that in order to close deals, you’re forced to give away nearly all margin. Even when you do make sales, the commission payout is negligible and not reflective of the effort required.

Hitting your sales number is also not enough. Even if you manage to meet or exceed revenue targets, you’ll still be penalized for not meeting ever-changing expectations around new accounts versus lost accounts, number of sales per day, or lines per sale. The goalposts are constantly moving, making it nearly impossible to feel successful or secure in the role.

The culture is heavily driven by daily pressure and micromanagement. You are contacted constantly about targets, and when numbers aren’t met, the feedback is often belittling rather than constructive. Instead of coaching or support, you’re met with harassment and criticism that quickly becomes demoralizing.

Overall, Wurth Canada sells a very polished story during recruitment, but the day-to-day reality for field sales reps is one of excessive pressure, poor compensation, unrealistic expectations, and a lack of genuine support. I would strongly caution anyone considering a sales role here to look very carefully at the compensation structure and ask hard questions about expectations and turnover before accepting an offer

I was sceptical when I first joined. The company went through a lot of changes before I joined and my sales area in BC had a lot of turn over for this position. There is a new CEO and he seems to be fairly reasonable and supportive so far. 

My area is challenging but the pay is great if you put in the work. I make more money in my first three months with Wurth than working with the military after 6 years.  

The company also gives you a company car that you use for business which is nice especially in BC where the gas prices are through the roof. 

The management and training are top notch. The people actually care about this company. My manager is the best manager I had in my life and I had a lot of bosses in the past. Friendly, supportive, knowledgeable and he puts in 100%. Most of the employees I engaged with in the back office have 10 years plus with the company which is a good sign.  

This job can be challenging, you need to be able to learn quickly, have entrepreneurial mindset - always approaching new and old clients, and be honest and respectful with them. 

TLDR: As a sales rep, your experience will depend a lot on the manager you have and the area you are in. If your manager is not experienced or involved it can be a difficult start. If your area previously had bad sales reps, (not supportive, lazy, dishonest, greedy) it will be tougher to convince customers to do business with you.

Don’t expect a “9:00 am - 5:00 pm” Job, if you want to be successful, you will need to put a lot of working hours.
The most enjoyable part of this job is , that you have a lot of freedom.

The company provides all the necessary training modules to help us to succeed. The management provides help to the 
sales representative, if it’s needed .

They also support employees in the endeavor to make family and job compatible. This includes part-time working arrangements and teleworking models for parents.

Got hired on as a sales representative, started off going to Guelph for training which was fine. Problem was I had taken over from another rep so there was nobody to order for my customers while I was away. Training was very thorough although you could tell they were brainwashing you to believe everything they had was better even though it obviously wasn't. During my two years they kept raising prices on their products which weren't cheap to begin with and didn't understand that having more reps in a territory doesn't always mean more sales. Constant policy, benefit, and bonus changes that never benefited you. Management is a joke, they never do you any favors and if you don't swallow the "wurth pill" they get rid of you. I quit due to impossible working conditions and it's only gotten worse since.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Free gas, free cellphone, work your own hours if you sandbag deals and make the day look busy on paper. The clients were actually fun once you developed a relationship with them. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Hitting target. Customer development. Sometimes you would open a new account with a $100 sales only for them to go inactive again in a year. But hey. A new account is a new account and if they go inactive then that’s an opportunity to reactivate them and count towards customer development. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depends on the manager you had. But from corporate, well… it’s corporate. You’re just a piece of data typed into an excel sheet color coded by profits and losses. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
8-5, 8-12 visits. Those include business development and sales calls. Ton of driving.

Over my 10 years in sales this has been by far the worst establishment to work for. The only focus is new accounts and not growing existing relationship or providing superior customer service. Open the account and then never get reacurring sales because your priced out of the market. Support?? Not existent. Calls to management rarely answered, customers getting freight charges out of the blue when they never had them before. Just horrible all around. If you are looking to get in this business I emplor you to look at alternatives ie Fastenal, C Class anyone, they CANNOT be run worst than this company. Also, if you are in business looking for a supplier I would suggest another company. Do not support a company like this that treats both employees and customers as a number.

You will be asked to build and add customers and then they will split your territory by 25-30%
And then expect you to grow it all over again.... And split your territory again!
..... Its like Groundhog Day !

Worked in the main office for about a year. The biggest complaint I had was with management, who all seemed ignorant to making necessary changes. There’s also a huge problem with toxic, complacent people staying for YEARS that make the problem worse. If you are a dynamic person who loves making meaningful change, stay away from here.

Additionally, there is a huge problem with employee turnover, reps turn over about 1-2% a day, and head office has troubles filling roles, which means theyre constantly understaffed and the people they do hire is less than impressive . Salaries are way below what the market pay is.

I think over all it is a positive place to work.
I appreciate that it's non violent (compared to some other places I've worked). Management leaves you alone to do your job, which is great. We're all adults.
Unfortunately if you have to work with someone who is a slacker there's nothing you can say to get it fixed. You just have to suck it up in order to maintain the "positive work culture".

I would recommend them for work. 
Much better than most warehouses. 
That said, it's very difficult to advance beyond your assigned role unless you wanted to switch to sales.

Wurth Canada has been so good to me! Over the last year and a half I have moved up from a maternity leave contract position as a coordinator to a permanent position as a supervisor. My team is amazing and hard working and my manager is very supportive. The other teams we work closely with help out whenever it gets busy and I can't say anything bad about Wurth other than the fact that the option of working from home keeps me away from seeing my work friends in person
