I have been doing this work in the Edmonton area for over 20 years, and this is by far the best company I have ever worked for. I genuinely enjoy coming to work, and though I have the option and flexibility to work from home, I choose to come in every day because I love the interaction with all the teams. The management team is working incredibly hard to listen to employees at all levels and make the changes to ensure they are supporting the teams to do the work, not the other way around. Yes, there is stress at times, we work to support humans that are struggling, but there is no doubt in my mind that I will be supported every step of the way, and not just in my role but as a person who is inevitably affected by the work. 
Compensation in this field is always a bit of an issue but I think it's important to remember that we receive wage funding from Government entities. Taproot has a great compensation package and goes above and beyond. Full benefit coverage (and great! benefits), wellness days (I've never had paid sick days at any company), etc. 
I'm really proud to be part of this company and the team at all levels and all areas. I'm excited for the direction we are taking. 

Management needs to learn how to create a healthy work culture and not continously threaten multiple staff of being written up or fired. 
Lacking communication and clear direction, most things are last minute and not planned out, which often means rebooking client appointments which breaks down client relationships. Often are put down if you ask questions to clarify. Management is not collaborative and Micromanages staff. 
Management flips their lack of skills and make it your problem. 
Job descriptions says work life balance, but when management deems it important, you have to come up with a "good enough" excuse as to why you cannot attend something after work hours and is only accepted if you are part of the inner circle, so then over-time is mandatory - and no flexibility when you can flex that over-time (ie. a scheduled medical appointment a few days later) it has to be convenient for management, and then use sick time or vacation time to attend the scheduled medical appointment. Some staff are allowed to use vacation days for sick leave and other staff are not. Some staff are allowed to work form home or "available by phone" while at medical appointments or errands, though other staff have to use vacation or sick time. The rules are not the same for all staff. 

I worked for Vegreville WJS, and for a very long time the place was one of the best places to work in town. Most of the staff were there for the right reasons, and I believe the local managment tried to do the best that they could but were always blamed for things that they had no control over. 
It was a sad day to see this company turn into something that I no longer recogized. The culture became very negative and it seemed that everyone was out for themselves and forgot the reason we worked there. The clients, who deserved the best quality of life. Not people who bully and harassed other staff and clients. 
I know I'm black balled from this company and I honest have no idea why. Never had a bad performance review and I gave my notice and left. I also did my job, I did what I was asked to do by my superiors. Not sure how that turned a whole company against me. It's OK. It hurt at first but I'm better for it. I hope that the ones who read this and are in managment please look at what is going on, because the new managment and staff that are left, are not taking care of what the client needs. 

A typical day at work would including reading and responding to emails, returning phone calls, placing calls to confirm meetings/visits with families and individuals. Follow up with families and gathering resources that best fit clients needs. Meeting with office manager and collaborators including community agencies and Children Services Staff. At times,  the office could be busy with everyone completing work related tasks that require lots of data entry at certain times of the month. The hardest part of the job is time management and keeping up with reports and assessments that are time sensitive. The most enjoyable part of the job is client (family) growth and learning  from the change processes that individuals and families are experiencing.  

I’ve worked front line for WJS for years and will work here indefinitely. The workplace culture is very positive and management respects and appreciates front line staff. They provide excellent benefits and wellness programs and pay competitive wages in the human services field. WJS is one of the largest private human services companies in Canada and programs vary across the country. My experience has only been positive and management has sought to equip employees to be successful. Having read some negative reviews on this site, I was surprised about complaints some people have had. I have only seen positive growth, adaptation, and momentum in this company; It has high accreditation standards and prioritizes staff development and people-centred services. I have great respect for my employer because I know they have respect for me. If you are a qualified, responsible, hard-working person, this is the company for you.

Management/Supervisors pushes blame and responsibility for rectifying situations on their employees.
Management need to focus on how they can address and fix problems, not on who was to blame.
Management finds ways to circumvent guidelines or follow rules and allows others performance to suffer.
Some advice for WJS upper management-a management/supervisory role, good leaders are able to debate and argue behind closed doors and then fully support a decision in public--even if they privately disagree with that decision. Great leaders are also willing to admit when they are wrong, take responsibility for fixing their mistakes, and learn  from them rather than put blame on others. 
Helping their employees and clients grow should be WJS’s biggest concern but if they continue supporting their wallets rather than the people they won’t have a company to work for

Working at this company was a deeply disappointing experience. Despite what their mission statement claims, the reality on the ground couldn’t be further from it. There is a complete lack of management skills across the board. Leadership is disorganized, unapproachable, and fails to provide any meaningful direction or support.

There is no respect for staff — input is ignored, concerns are dismissed, and there’s a clear lack of appreciation for employee well-being. Standards, if any exist, are poorly communicated and inconsistently enforced. The work environment is unhygienic and poorly maintained, and resources needed to do the job effectively are either inadequate or completely absent.

New staff are thrown in without proper training, and there is zero transparency in decision-making or company policies. It’s a frustrating and demoralizing place to work.

I do not recommend working here to anyone who values professionalism, growth, or even basic respect in the workplace.

Taproot Community Support Services is a truly special place to work. I feel eager to come to work each day knowing all of my colleagues are stiving for the same common purpose; to deliver high quality supports that are specifically tailored for those who need them.

One of the things that makes Taproot very special is that they value people for the qualities they bring to the table. I have never needed to compromise who I am while working here; Taproot embraces the unique perspectives and experiences that make me who I am. 

The culture is very collaborative and supportive, the company's values are strong, the work is engaging, working with our person's served is very fulfilling, the pay is at or above industry standard, they have very generous employee initiatives and perks, and there is room for growth internally. 

If you want to work for a company that truly strives empowers its teams this is the place to be.

I worked for 10 years for WJS Canada. I grew with the company and went from paper base to computer base. WJS founders believe that making money was a consequence of helping people and thats how they based their business on. During my years working there I met wonderful people and I can tell that the people at the head office are wonderful people and want to do it right. The CEO is personable and good to talk. I had a wonderful director until 2014 but when she left I was stuck with a boss that was less than mediocre and I ended up leaving the company because I could not respect her. However, my life after WHS was only great opportunities and making double what I used to make so I am thankful for everything I learned there.

the politics and the office only thinking of clients and employees as $$ and not as people

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
very stressful and the rules change every day and you never know if you're going to get written up or disciplined because they change the way they want something done since yesterday. As long as you are friends or kiss *** you will be on edge for your job

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
never knew what was happening. But at the end of the day, your clients make your day go well and you know that they appreciate what you do for them.
