The managment sets the bar too high and doesn't want to compensate properly with more pay. Nothing is ever good enough for the cross shift. They have unqualified general foreman running the shop making backward thinking decisions. Lie to your face, blame the workers on the floor for their poor and unexpericed decisions. Just show up, remember they have a 2 tier pay system, and only work what you're paid for. Above and beyond is a expectation from them for mediocre to poor pay. Regardless of qualifications or willingness you don't climb company ladders there or grow unless you're going for beers afterwork with the floor managment.

Huge shop with over 150 people working there. Management  expect a high production but there is constant issues with old and abused equipment. They pay decent wages but even a small slow down in a work schedule causes massive lay offs. Local 805 is a joke..
If you're looking for a stable employment  - stay away from Waiward.
Production goals are hard to reach and you are being push to the limits. After every shift you will feel tired and unhappy.
However  there is bunch a nice and friendly people working there.

Too many injuries, not enough adaptation by management. 
Top executives being replaced every 5 years as middle managers with friends remain in positions they were never qualified for in the first place as injuries climb.
The guys on the floor are great and will teach you to weld/fit/paint/sandblast/machines, they have millwright and mechanics too. Just expect 150 administrative problems from management before you’ll see a raise or apprenticeship papers to follow it up.

Sandblasted , worst paint shop I have worked in very unprofessional and Forman was an absolute narcissist and not very knowledgeable I would not recommend this shop to anyone unless you like to be belittled and talk down to by paint shop foreman constantly .The paint shop supervisors lack any real experience and worst crew they all have very little skill or work ethics and take no pride in their work . Foreman only keeps his job because he has friend in the office any other company would have gotten rid of him he gets people hurt

Waiward is an excellent place to work. The company is committed to continual education for their employees and provide numerous in house training programs. The work atmosphere is generally up beat and a strong sense of team work  is created, partially due to the great number of social activities provided and a very involved social committee. Wages and benefits are fairly rated and annual assessments are completed and reviewed with employees. This company is a great place to learn and develop your skills to their fullest potential.

In this tough economy , it's tough to find continous income. Luckily I managed to find myself within Waiward. The experice working there was quiet interesting, but the time to wage ratio didn't gel with what I had to do as my daily activities. Forcing myself to work 6 days a week to make ends meet is my issue but the work was strenuos. It was a job that filled my time, taught me more about fabrication and put food on my table.

Long hrs great weekends spent lots of time perfecting welds .The management is very receptive and outgoing. Great accomplishment and sense of pride doing your work . The most enjoyable part of working there was getting to know many people from all backgrounds
all very kind . Work is fast paced and hard but enjoyable

Work started with TBT with all workers in order to get an idea as to what work was schedule for the shift and to voice any safety concerns with the workers, also good time to get workers in a positive safety mood to start the day. Best part of the job. Continue to talk and mentor workers throughout the day with safety walks to the work front.

Good quality management & co-workers, at the same time very demanding if you are not from Alberta.

I have learned in 2009 & 2015 that Oil is never a sure thing at $130.00/barrel.

The hardest part of the job: make sure the budget for the projects and delivery dates are the priority.

The enjoyable part of the job was working with the designers & owners of the projects.

Workplace culture is theoretically awesome but the senior management are short sighted and not willing to listen to their staff about how best to progress the company. IT department are unfriendly and run by a megalomaniac who doesn't know anything about the industry. A shame because the rest of the staff are really nice people to work with.
