Was fortunate enough to spend a few years at Wavestar and grow into a leadership role and build up a successful department. The department values and work ethic unfortunately were not always seen or appreciated by the other departments and management. 

This is NOT the place to work if you want a work-life balance, outside plant RF and Fiber Optic divisions are on-call 24/7 with no scheduled shifts, you can imagine the stress this puts on individuals and family.  If you are with family or otherwise busy you are expected to drop everything and respond no matter the situation. 

Unfortunately after many years it became apparent that there are a significant number of high salary directors and management typical of a networking company 10x or even 100x the size. Raises are few and far between but new management roles seem to pop up when and where they are not needed. 

left my old job to come work for wavestar because I wasn't getting enough hours, wavestar assured me I would be getting consistent hours. right of rip Im working in different cities, 60-110km away from home using my own car. after the first 3 weeks of me working there the manager came up to me and told me things were slow and they will call me when they had work. I was off for 6 weeks till they called me back for work. out of the 6 months I worked there I got laid off twice and never worked in the city they hired me to work in. 
they dont tell you how long you will not be working for, there is always the thought in the back of your head that the company might run out of work and the only answers you get from management is "thats the industry, if you don't like it then you shouldn't of taken the job" but they never tell you that during your interview

Recommended only if there are absolutely no other options. The best part about the job is that you get too look at node diagrams and build nodes based of the designs provided. The people you work with are great but in terms of room for advancement, pay, benefits, work hours, commute you are really undervalued. Depending on the distance a majority of your salary will go towards paying for your transportation to the point where you almost working at break even if not at a loss. on the plus side if you are pursuing a position in design, working int he field is a good way to get a better idea of how to plan out, budget and understand what is going on the physical level.

The job itself is okay, lots to learn and coworkers are good people. 

Management is probably some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Not only do they have a lack of experience in the field but also life experience. It’s basically a group of egotistical 25 year olds running this ship. Zero accountability when things go wrong. Lying and manipulation in order to meet work demands. A group of people who lack maturity and people skills to be honest. 

Typical work days are busy with a friendly work environment.
Network layers 1 through 4 can be learned well.
Management is good, the company is a good size so sometimes you need to speak up. The company sub contacts for larger cooperation's which can affect management in good and bad ways.
Work hours can be sparatic if your a field technician, however it is part of the gig.

This workplace is far from perfect.... very basic. If you're looking for job stability, then it should be fine. Anything else beyond that, look elsewhere. The benefits that they offer is a joke. There are no sick days or personal days (they expect you to use your vacation). Management is not the greatest... it's either they like you or tolerate you. Salary is lacklustre (they will pay you meagerly and expect you to be ok with it). 

High turnover rate. Started at low pay.  Made to sign agreement to average hours immedaitely before employment.  Owners have slowly taken away any benefits that were implemented from the beginning.  Lots of travel without compensation for gas etc.  Expected to travel from Barrie to Oshawa etc without compensation. Terrible unprofessional managers.

I enjoyed working at wavestar but management only wanted money money money. No respect for employees.  Make one screw up and your out. Which I found out after 13 years. Made them millions and didn't get a second chance. Retired now enjoying life. If wavestar went bankrupt today I'd be happy not for the employees but for the  owners.


Management is not up to the mark. There are people in the management (directors)who will accuse you for their mis-management. No decision making power in the management, they will keep decisions lingering until the end or will keep passing it from one to another. The crew is good to work with but bad management . 

Salary was low also manager promised to increase salary after couple weeks but it was lie.I was overqualified and they used me to start the project which i did without training.After instead of increment or promotion for me they terminated and hired somebody else.The new employee was my trainee and friend.
