Every day represented a new challenge. I often created 3D models and drawings of various machine parts and pressure vessels. Quoting on incoming work, reverse engineering customer's supplied parts, preparing reports, checking quality control results, and managing projects were all activities that consumed my time during the work day.

I learned a great deal about the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Process Piping code, and all the standard ASME codes for materials and their standards. I also learned to be percise and accurate with my work, and to take my time to make sure that it is correct. I also learned a great deal about welding and quality control, machining, and managing people.

I enjoyed working with the people in the shop, my supervisor (technical manager) and the field and plant management. I felt that I learned a great deal working for the company.

The hardest part of the job was the tasks sometimes were completely new to me, and I was expected to find the solution on my own. I found the solutions, and feel that the process has helped me learn.

I enjoyed the change in assignments, and carefully reading and learning codes. I find that the more I use them, the better I get with them, and the easier that they become.

I was hired as a temporary financial analyst, until the management finds a permanent recruit, I worked for a month and have seen wonders. 

Management has very poor leadership skills, with socially and task-related isolating policies towards certain individuals. E.g. being extremely friendly to a newly hired employee, with daily training, while completely neglecting another, who was also a recent hire, and not providing even basic skills on how to maneuver the system.

They have high employee turnover in management.

I was told a guy was sent home for walking over the grass while coming from his car from the parking lot.

I was contacted by a Sr. Finance Manager inquiring about how to do simple edits in the company M3 Lawson ERP system. I did give the steps on how to do it, but I was shocked by the management level of ignorance; the inquiry was kinda sorta ABC thing in the finance department and the guy had been there for 5 months and didn't even know this!

I was paid hourly, yet the management didn’t like me staying after hours, as if I was staying there to play.

Over all, very WEIRD place. It’s named WEIR Canada

Working at this company seems extremely appealing with a high pay rate and weekly pay cheques, off at a decent time ect. sounds pretty good and was pretty good for the first couple days until the symptoms from the chemicals appear, they use a toxic chemical 24/7 there called Xylene, search up the health effects and you wouldn't think twice about entering, such as depression, skin rash, nausea, skin irrational, infertility, organ failure and many respiratory issues. the chemicals are terrible, they give you a mask that's qualified to use but you would have to wear it 24/7 to avoid the fumes, you work literally 10-15 feet away from hazmat wearing workers with extremely dangerous chemicals that are exposed to your breathing environment. Every worker uses the chemical all day and they are never stored properly they sit out on the floor in tubs with the fumes in the air. Management Is a massive issue here, every worker said the same thing. would love to keep typing and explain my many more issues (late raises, injuries

- Great mindless work. If you enjoy puzzles and can put the shapes inside of their holes you’ll be just fine for the most part.

- The older staff are an ol boys club group of individuals, if you get along well with them you’ll be fine.

- The pay is good for the type of job, definitely higher than most in the area. 

- The jobs on site can be automated if they invested the time and money into it. But it doesn’t seem like that’s in the works at the moment. 

- I’d say the younger folks tend to have more compassion and empathy towards others here.


Ultimately, it’s an ok job. It’s smelly, it’s dusty and dirty, it’s a factory there’s not much to expect otherwise. If you’re an experienced individual with some wherewithal, I’d recommend applying. Come see for yourself the “WEIR Way”.

The people at Weir are all very nice. The working environment is very good when things are going well. Every company has ups and downs depending on the market, however, in the 6 years that I have been with Weir, they've had about 6 waves of layoffs, and overall, it's the most unstable place that I've worked.  The morale in this company is lower than anywhere I've been. The Management team have no clue what they're doing and have literally driven this 100 year old company into the ground.  I'm happy to be gone, and now working for a more stable organization.  Don't waste your time applying for a job here.

I write this late as it has been many years since I was employed by Weir. 
The individual I worked with was an amazing individual very cheery and knowledgeable and extremely helpful, he was first class. The office was inadequate with old "handed down" desks and chairs.
The management at top was decent but I didn't interact with them that much so I can give you no more info on them. The supervisors were excellent and very helpful. The only issue was connecting into the main office was poor and in my opinion the paperwork and startup material was inordinately excessive and the system was very confusing.... Heavily bureaucratic with too many rules almost seemed like it was confusing on purpose, maybe protecting some individuals power and position.

don't even apply...the place is run by totally incompetent people... nepotism runs high, and those hired because they know someone don't have to do anything, but get the same wage as everybody else.. new hire orientation was a joke as is the in-house forklift training 2 workers were certified with less than 10 minutes on a forklift. ( and they had never been on a forklift before)  Safety program is there run by some guy that is never even there, and to make it worse we he is there, he doesn't even understand the paperwork he makes employees sign. and does not understand safety in general

Typical day at work included melting of 25,000-30,000 lb scrap in the Arc furnace, sampling, and analyzing the chemical composition on spectrometer  before adding the additional chemicals. Towards the end of the day, each day's heats descriptions were required to be entered in oracle which was the most enjoyable part of the job as it gave opportunity to keep track of our final products. PPE was mandatory at all times when on the floor, the company was very strict regarding the safety of their employees.
Team composed of friendly and hard working employees, who all took part in ensuring efficiency for the company.

My typical day at work would be greeting everyone before the supervisor starts his safety briefing. Then I would check the production schedule for the shift with him. Planning is the best way the make my job easy as I can tell and the team leader what to bring first for post or final inspection. Furthermore, I would go in grinding station to check the castings share and advise them on particular aspects. Time to time grinders come to my inspection bay to seek help and I help them with utmost pleasure.

I worked in there coating department before the fall of oil and before they became seaboard. It was by far the best company I've ever worked for. Great pay, your safety actually matters. Great benefits and the overall atmosphere of the shop was enjoyable. It's to date the only place I've worked where you are encouraged to grab new ppe when ever you need it. Being of minority status, and working here I never encountered any type of profiling and or negative treatment. 
Great place to work. Wish they still had a spray dept.
