This place had decent wages back in 2014. Pay became very stagnant with basically no raises. Actually, they did offer a raise back in 2016 and withdrew it a week later. They played favoritism with certain employees and did not go by any seniority. Eventually We got a union in and the place got very toxic. Management on everyones back for any reason possible. And workers are always out to get each other. There are a few respectable employees there, but if you are a new hire, be prepared to work grueling labor in the threading dept. You will be expected to lift upwards of 50 lbs , 30+ times per hour. With little to no relief or rotation to prevent wear and tear on your body from repetitive work. The management is constantly trying to speed up machines and work us into the ground. HR will pretend to be on your side and use anything against you, even simply calling in sick one single day in the year. Do yourself a favor and get an education, these factory jobs offer less and less incentive to work as time goes on in this economy. One last thing, is the place is dirty and since covid, there has been little in regard to keeping the shop truly dust free and clean. 

A day start with meeting & wishing to the plant employees & of course some times with nice hot coffee.
Then discuss with the previous shift mechanics about the problems occured during the shift.Then gather information of the break downs & down time of the production.
Every day is a learning experience. I can say in this company learnt about the problem solving skills, a good team work, communication skills, importance of the safety not only limited to self but of the machine where I am working & also of the collegues with whom I am working.
No body is perfect but co workers are co operative & are good team members too.
Hardest part was to get adjust with new environment as it is a unionized environment but because of adjusting nature I could mix up with the collegues in nice way.
I enjoy the company picnic, christmas & new year party, also enjoy the lunch.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Going home….things will get you angry the moment you get there…other crews will not clean up properly

Supervisors and office women…they don't care and the union does nothing to help

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Employees overall are depressed and want to quit…but we all have families so we suffer through

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Either you are sitting and waiting for tubes to work on sometimes for multiple hours…and other times you are so rushed to do your job while theres like 6 other employees standing or sitting down watching you work or watching movies

People on the floor are great to work with, competitive market for supervisors and higher up. The work environment was taxing, often with gaily challenges. I worked with 6 plants between Canada and the US. I delt with oil and gas (H40 to P110), HSLA (50 to 90ksi, Hollow Structural Sections (ASTM, A500, A500, A 513 and A53). The hardest part is new people that don't listen. They listen to respond, not to understand. Best part of work was with the people on the floor, they listen and act.

Check machine before shift, perform tasks to machine for cleaning and setup. Verify operating correctly and to current setups. Perform change overs for different types of pipe/tubing.
Operate/verify transfer zones were operating correctly as per type of product. Hourly checks for correct dimensional specs to pipe.
Report any concerns to maintenance, write daily productivity reports for hourly work performance.

High pressure and non stop from start to finish of the 12 hour shif I was on

Tracking pipe numbers and constant breakdowns of equipment

Job is pretty good. Upper management, HR, and Health and Safety are a complete joke. They are not educated in any of their roles. The unsafe working conditions of the property is not a priority. Catching people smoking and trying to write people up is at the top of their list. Most of the staff don’t feel comfortable going to HR and Health and Safety with any issues. All they do is degrade you. And it’s not their job. 

If  you are under probationary, all eyes on you, even if your doing your job properly if they don't like you, you should know the answer next. Some co-workers are kind and good but some of them who has relatives inside they act as if they own the placed.  Sad to say but it's the reality.

The company is not bad, management could do a better job of making employees feel appreciated and respected. With the union coming in, things are worse not better. Now we pay people to not help us out. Unifor 199 is a joke of a union.

Schedule is improved now. Little raise with no advancement. No appreciation for work, few people are working and trying hard to improve things but management is not supportive. Asked to use vacation on mandatory shutdowns. Old style factory.
