A typical day at work would be working 9-5 dealing with customers, counting bottles and taking in other recyclables from customers.
I learned a lot about what can be recycled and what can't be and what happens to the materials after we take them in. Management is good they will always work with you and your schedule and try their best to get you days off you request, pretty flexible. The hardest part of the job is probably dealing with rude customers and it gets quite busy at times. The most enjoyable part is doing something good for the environment and the community. It is nice when customers will acknowledge the good job we do and what we do for the planet and at willowbrook they do the sorting for you so you don't have to sort yourself and people love that.

It's loud, noisy as heck, dirty, smelly, disorganized, terrible parking, parking lot is cramped, cement in the lot is potholed, inside is again, super super noisy and loud, and has what I would imagine to be a prison vibe. Interview process was a joke, they ask for 3 references, which is fine, but really, come on, look at where you work. They also place misleading job Ads, and say they are hiring when they are not, only to ask you if you are available for hire during the busy season. Job is seasonal. Productivity quotas are unrealistic.

I would usually be sorting through bottles and cans and typing them into the POR computer, changing full bags of bottles from the bottle sorting machine, helping customers with their recycling, cleaning the tables and machines, and just random things that need to be done around the warehouse. Staff is all really nice everyone gets along.  Its a very busy place so you'll never be bored or have nothing to do. Most enjoyable part is the people and least enjoyable part is sometimes bad smells from customers recycling and dirty recycling

So much for there being any respect and appreciation for workers, especially during an pandemic. I thought this would of been a fun experience, doing something good for the environment and meeting new people in the process. But from the beginning management kept me in the dark and was determent to have me fail. The whole experience was quite upsetting and I am glad for it to be over. My only hope is for things to improve and for my experience to help others.

I worked here for about three months during the summer. I enjoyed learning about the different things that could be recycled and the feeling of helping the environment. Co workers were nice and helpful but due to the unrealistic and poor working conditions and always being told I was never doing enough I had no choice but to take my leave.

Interesting to see the many types and shapes of bottles coming in and how many things are actually brought in for recycling.

Would work for them again if management approved.

I like the 4 days a week 10 hour shifts it gives me more time in the week for myself. everyone is friendly and works as a team to get things done. Flexible schedule, if i need a day off management is accommodating.  The Tomra machine is very cool although it can be picky at times. 

Work somewhere else! Good for a first job but you won’t get a raise or proper benefits. If you work late you won’t be paid for it. All of the workers talk about eachother and they place bets on how long the new workers will last there. Very toxic environment.. Gossip gossip 

Good people to work with. They are responsive to ideas and requests when possible. Sometimes customers are difficult but exerting works as a team and helps each other out

The team culture is an advantage of the job.  There is a lot more to recycling and BC's EPR system than I first thought.  It is an important job in service to the community and the planet.
