My experience working at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario was challenging due to workplace culture and lack of support from management.

There was minimal support for staff in leadership roles, and communication from upper management was often unclear or unresponsive. Concerns related to compensation and administrative processes were not handled in a transparent or timely manner, which created a stressful work environment.

I also found that important HR matters, including payroll and pension-related questions, were difficult to resolve despite multiple attempts to follow up.

From a program perspective, staffing expectations in school-age settings made it difficult to provide consistent, high-quality care. Staff were frequently stretched across responsibilities, limiting their ability to build strong relationships with children. There were also concerns raised about cleanliness and operational standards that did not always appear to be addressed promptly.

While the organization promotes positive community values, my experience did not reflect those standards internally. Significant improvements in communication, accountability, and staff support are needed.

Always short staffed because the employees are burnt out / stressed, and the remaining employees are expected to do the work of 2 people. No rewards, benefits or growth potential for part-time employees. They are expected to be on call to pick-up extra shifts, and to cover at various locations when needed. Management does not honour the employees that are reliable, hard working and that do everything that is asked of them. You might as well slack and call in sick like everyone else, because you won't get thanked for anything extra that you do. Instead of offering raises or promotions based on job performance they would rather deal with high staff turnover. The organization is badly managed and it is very difficult to communicate with the proper people when needed. Unless you are very good at kissing up to management, you will never get anywhere at this company. A union would greatly improve this organization.

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is a family focused employer that leads by its core values in the way it treats their employees. I have seen this first hand in the flexibility provided to allow my personal life to be in balance with my work life. 

I have had a great experience with my supervisors allowing me to work to my strengths but challenging me to grow in other areas. This has allowed me to move throughout the Association working in multiple departments and roles within. 

Fun atmosphere, usually only do jobs you want to do! But communication is lacking. The hours are not plentiful. Do a lot in the community and care about members 

Terrible work culture due to upper management. Nepotism, favoritism. Unprofessional behaviours from upper management team. Focus on short comings from staff rather than giving any positive feedback and recognition.
High turnover. Issues ignored and swept under the rug

typical work day. '9-5' kind of grind. this place showed me your coworkers are what matters most. management seem to be in the positions they are in simply to rep financial rewards.t hey will 'care' until it no longer suits them and feed you to the wolves.

I love working with the YMCA. There are lots of company events to keep active in. I work in childcare finance. The staff shortages of early childhood educators is a bit concerning but can be mitigated with partnerships with Immigration Canada.

I was hired last fall but only started in January.  I was hired for a site that is presently not opened yet.  The opening date has been put off again and again.  I have been at many sites feeling little appreciation and much disrespect.

The management does not like the pool staff. All the supervisors like to manage the pool and be rude. Overall easy job, not the best pay and horrible comments from other staff

Fast pace interactive setting. Locations vary as per department within the community. Long hours, travelling and required to be flexible at all times.
