Youth Impact Jeunesse Inc

Youth Impact is a provincial organization that only actually focuses on their Moncton youth and programs so if you are outside of Moncton expect to be underfunded and ignored. All management is in Moncton.
Management contradicts one another constantly and gives you different instructions DAILY. Don’t expect a compliment or to be commended in your job performance. House (program) managers have no management experience or experience with youth and HR and other higher ups don’t listen to staff when complaints are brought forward. 
You will be put on probation for 6-9 months before getting benefits… and any time you change your position you restart your probation. No extra pay for working holidays (and you have to work them), no opportunities for advancement, no breaks throughout the shift. Don’t be fooled you’ll expect to make a difference but be held back from actually doing anything productive and beneficial for the youth. 
Youth impact promotes as salaried positions but they are hourly.

Youth Impact was by far an amazing place to work. The kids that came through the house were enlightening, full of potential, and excellent to work with. The staff within the environment was so easy to work with and get comfortable with. Being a casual worker I had the privilege of working in several different facilities with different staff and youth. My experiences from this company will be well used and I am grateful for it. The hardest part of this job was by far the long hours and the mentally exhausting work that it is, being called the same day they wanted you to work being a casual worker the last minuteness of the job could be challenging. But going in, and seeing a youth's day get better because you were there, honestly made everything worth it. Unfortunately I had to step back on this job because casual hours just weren't enough for my financial stability.

Working in the field of youth care workers is stressful. Though Youth Impact offers a competitive salary in the field, it is not a suitable wage to sustain oneself. The job itself is hazardous in that residents may become escalated, which may cause danger to themselves or others. Workers often become stressed, and tend to think about work even while at home. Youth Impact attempts to rectify this by offering a free counselling session each year and a wellness benefit, but the hours of the job make it difficult to pursue stress-relieving activities. This is a meaningful job, and those who are dedicated to making a difference will like the home environment offered by the company. Those who are using this job as a stepping stone towards another career path, though, may not find the job pleasant.

I would personally never work for youth impact again. Higher ups are constantly looking for you to make a mistake so they can reprimand you or just flat out fire you. I ended up quitting and leaving the company due to the feeling of being disrespected and unappreciated. If you try and bring up ideas on how to better the experience you are told they'll think about it and never hear it again. They also have a "you can't say no" mentality which in the long run is not helping the youth we try and help. The youth end up running the home because staff have zero say on anything and if you do try and stand up for yourself you get in a lot of trouble. I wouldn't recommend youth impact to anyone. I made a very good friend there but it is also a very clique place in my experience.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Volatile, unpredictable, staff treat newcomers with little respect, using a voting system to approve or disapprove of new staff,  Very poor Orientation and has since implemented a more professional Orientation. Weak professionals who pr3ey on the employee

This career can be very rewarding but burn out is inevitable. Long hours, shift work, always short staffed. Unrealistic expectations from head office. No monetary incentives to work extra or stay at the company. Pay does not reflect the amount of work and stress. Safety is not a top priority and you will most likely get hurt at one point or another. Kids can be a joy to work with but unfortunately the environment is not good for them. Some team members are only there for a pay cheque and don’t have the best interests of the youth in mind. No support from social development. 

During my entière time working there (year) I’ve faced many challenges. I didn’t feel heard by other employees and management plus the kids were racist. I kept pushing my feelings down and working with the kids because I cared deeply for them and wanted to help them grow. This took a toll on my mental health and had me question a lot of things (like, is it worth it). As a person of color, working in an environment where you have little support is very difficult. Other than that , it’s a great job, you bring positivism in youth’s lives. Requires a lot of patience 

I worked for this company for an extended time, they have a high turnover rate and Upper Management does not value good employees. Worked their over two years and never shook hands with  the Director, you agree to schedules when hired then its changed at anytime. Only follow their own policies when it benefits management, not very tolerant to staff who have mental heath issues from the job. If your looking to work in youth care and just want to work and go home and need experience apply, if your looking for a career forget it.

It is stressful due to the nature of the work, but there is a supportive environment. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s a fast paced environment that’s constantly changing. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working one on one with youth, completing reports. Each day is slightly different but tasks are the same - light housework, cooking, one on one care with youth.

The biggest problem is senior management. There are excellent policies in place, but they don’t follow them unless it’s convenient. Human Resources, in particular, is a joke. Don’t expect them to take you or your concerns seriously. You will absolutely be put in dangerous situations without sufficient resources; don’t expect support. Feedback guidelines are not followed or enforced, so gossip is rife. Hours are often long and staff are overworked.
