I worked at E-Steam for almost 1 year before getting a new job. The work environment was fun and the people I worked alongside were great, particularly my manager who really cared a lot about keeping the company afloat. My co-workers were generally good people to work alongside, and the clientele were always friendly. Being someone who's really into vaping, it was a great opportunity to make some money working in environment where I was passionate about the products and had a lot of knowledge about what were selling. Management was also accommodative of my school as well, and being a student, this was the most important factor when I took the job initially. I always felt I could take time off if more pressing issues arose regarding my school work, and management as well my co-workers were almost always willing to step in to cover shifts or re-schedule me. 

The company itself however was a complete disaster. Completely disorganized, under-stocked, understaffed, and totally complacent in being the worst vape company in Ottawa. The CEO was totally disconnected from his store-front staff. The drastic decrease in stock led to increased strain on us as sales associates because of our inability to maintain good customer relations. There also felt like there was no room for upward movement in the company. In all of the time I was there, I was commended multiple times for my work ethic and high sales, but remained at minimum wage up until I left the company. As time went on, it became very difficult to care at all about the job simply because it didn't seem like anyone who was actually running the company cared. 

It's nice to see that the company has been re-branded and that they actually have items in stock, however it still feels as if their struggling to regain all of the customers they lost before E-Steam went bankrupt.

I understand that retail is not for every however I loved working here! Management is very understanding and reasonable with concerns I have had. I was never meant to feel like I was worthless, in fact it was much the opposite. If I made a mistake, it was dealt with in a professional manner and was not held over my head. The situation as dealt with and we moved on! Unlike my other jobs where it was brought up over and over and you start dreading going to work.

I learned how to think outside of the box because ideas I had were actually considered and listed to. The hardest part of my job was dealing with people who did not understand the nature of this business. They thought we were causing harm to our customers and those around us. Once they did understand, if they even wanted to understand, all was good.

 I notice that promotions were never based on duration with the company. It was mainly based on performance. Promotions were earned through hard work and dedication, not just if you happen to have worked there for a while.

I loved the team I worked with and the joy I got from helping people every day. Very very satisfying job!!

I began working at e-steam about a year ago, my manger and co-workers were amazing people. My manger was an amazing teacher and very hard working. However as time proceeded upper management made some terrible decisions. For example buying a low level hockey team with company funds resulting in no more money left for buying stock. The low level employees of the company and store managers were blamed for low sales with the CEO and upper management taking no responsibility. This resulted in  benefits being cancelled along with bonuses being withdrawn  as time proceeded with the store employees being abused by both customers and upper management my original manager left and I transferred to a different store where I found my new manager to be a incompetent misogynist who was unbearable to work with. I would never recommend any body to work here, it probably won't last much longer anyway. OH and if you ever get to talk to the CEO I hope you enjoy there deplorable demeanor.

My manager was in the pembroke location me and 2 others were promised promotion to assistant  Manager. Which we didn't see for months and months on end just because the manager enjoyed watching us "fight for it". That sadistic manager screamed ate ruthlessly with the whole mall to account for it and then descriminate against me for my appearance and beliefs. That woman after being reported numerous times was instead promoted to district manager. Never had concern for my well being as I ended up very ill  at one point and even screamed at me on my days off. Even for not having my phone working on my unscheduled days (was not on salary or having my phone paid and she threatened my job). On top it all had belittled me in front of my 2 year old daughter at the time (2014) I threw in my keys and never went back. Was a shame as I loved that job with all I had

I would give this place a ZERO if I could. I am a former employee of this joke of a company. Head office is a trailer in the middle of god knows where, they expect the 3(my location had 2) employees or less at particular location to handle tasks that should be completed by HEAD OFFICE. They do not respect the average employee and will expect you to bend over backwards to get certain things done way out of your job criteria. If the system makes a mistake or has a glitch, be expected to be blamed(even if they act like its all alright). The upper management consists of a total of 2-3 people INCLUDING the owner. You will have a lot of free time because some locations are JUST NOT BUSY(but expect to be blamed for not having any sales). If you ever worked a real retail job this place is a real jump down. If you want a lot of free time doing nothing; literally sitting on your around waiting for people to buy something this is for you. Don't expect to move up.. this is coming from a manager.

This is a company on the rise!
Every day is different & I am always learning something new. Computer skills, the art of customer service, new product knowledge, there's always a new challenge.
For me, it's a refreshing change to see a supportive management team who actually listen to new ideas. You're never just a number here. 
Company events are always a blast & outings are way more creative than the standard pizza lunch & name games that most employers do over and over again. 
e-Steam is a great place to work!

For a manager, day to day activities include, scheduling, ordering, inventory procedures, frequent email checking, implementing changing policies and procedures, and customer service.  One learns how to work as a team, handle unique customer inquiries, handling a cash register, cleaning displays in addition to frequently changing look of displays, cash counting, and closing procedures.  Co-workers are positive and helpful, promoting a team environment.  Dealing with irate customers is hard, however interacting with happy customers is very rewarding.

By that I mean that if you have a Job you should like going to work, and at eSteam I enjoyed going to work everyday.

Management was firm but fair and boundaries and limitations were always present, but you are giving the opportunity to excel and share ideas.

Only reason I left was because I relocated to another province and they are only I Ontario!! If they had a location where I am now then I would be working there without question.

I have been with e-Steam from the early days when they only had 3 stores.  Now with almost 20 stores and growing, this is an excellent place to move up and grow.  I started as a part time 20 hours a week employee and now manage my own store.  The store has a great balance with steady customers and down time.  
Definable an awesome place to work!

Opening or closing routines for store involving cleaning displays, as well as sales. Stock duties included rotating old stock for new as well as tracking and receiving new stock.

The other staff were friendly and the company allowed its staff to work around life circumstances.

Owners disappeared with company money leaving the staff without pay.
