They were on continental shifts so we would switch every 2 weeks so the days were 7am-3pm Monday to Friday with a half hour lunch, and nights were 3pm-1am Monday to Thursday with a 45 minute lunch and a 15 min break near the end. During either shift my job was simply to stand at the end of the line and quickly place cores (think of toilet paper) on a skid, standing up with a cardboard base covering the bottom and in between each tier. It was a team builder because if someone had to go to the washroom the others would have to cover for them at the same pace. I learned the basics of how to cut the cores with a knife safely because i saw two of my co-workers cut themselves while trying.
The workplace was always clean and managed very well. If there was a problem with the machine everyone had already know what they were supposed to do from day one, me for example had to sweep the floor. There were two machines, four positions at one and two at the other, at this workplace there was only about twelve people each shift so I got to know everyone very quickly and they were very nice people to work with. The hardest part about this was that it was always fast pace and you had to adapt quickly. However the most enjoyable part was getting every Friday off during the night shifts.

I worked at Abzac for just over 2 months. The training is very minimal and expect you to know the job right away. The employees are rude, and annoyed if you ask a question or need help understanding something.  It's not a very welcoming group of employees and they will do what they can to make it that you don't succeed. Management is very unorganized and talk down to you. The warehouse manager was a creepy person and would constantly stare at the production line as workers sweat and push out product. I finally had enough and quit on my own terms and found something better.

I am currently employed at abzac  the job is great ...the negative reviews you may see are from people with no work ethic and no common sense ...if you want a job with benefits good pay and  other bonuses then come on out . You can get ahead quick in the company if, you want too...there lots of room for advancement  which comes with pay increases.   I would recommend  this job to some with work ethic common sense and the ability to think for them selves 

I only know about the Bowmanville plant but your fellow co-workers will easily throw you under the bus. Their are a few amazing people there.  even though it is a small factory they go through soooo many people it's not funny. Tons of injuries happen to the point that the local taxi company drivers know that place by heart.

The main boss is the type who screams and yells then asks questions later.

I worked with the Plant Manager to create a Health & Safety Program. He did not have much experience with this, and I worked with him at my previous job so he needed my help with H&S.

I helped him create a H&S program, that included training, safety programs, etc.

A terrible place to work, full time union employees are there for themselves. The lines of communication between management and employees is thinner than rice paper.
Zero training and zero help from others.
Do your self a favour and avoid this place, the revolving door never stops…

At Abzac I've learned to pay attention to detail and work at a fast pace all while working safe. Always making sure quality of product is within standards.
Problem solving issues on machine is the most challenging task.
Communication is a must when working on machine with others in order to succeed.

This company was a fast passed, busy environment. It had a great atmosphere with room for advancement.
I enjoyed being employed however due to moving had to leave, unfortunately.
Would recommend.
