AFTON PARK PLACE

I work Early cook mostly (6am to 2 pm) ( Late Cook shift is 9:30 am-5:30 pm) I start my day between 5-5:30 am for early cook and 8:30 am for late cook because of the menu challenges. I have 7 early cook shifts and 3 late cook shifts per 2 week schedule. We do food textures and diet modifications on all menu options. I have prepared all three meals plus as early cook we do snack cart preparation and serve breakfast in one of 4 dining rooms. I enjoy my work and the residents that is why I put in the extra effort and hours of work. I have stepped up in the absence of the Food Service Manager and did food ordering and menu changes. We have a Corporate Dietician the prepares our menus for all our homes. We work as a team in Dietary. We have a new Food Service manager since Feb. 2016 and I assist her when needed. The hardest part of the job is keeping up with the many food textures and dietary needs as they are not consistent in long term care. The most enjoyable part is the thankyous and smiles from the residents about the food prepared.

The staff at afton truly care for their residents as if they are their own family. Wonderful home with lots of support. Everywhere in Healthcare is short staffed right now but at this home I see caring individuals from housekeeping to management pitching in to provide the residents with the best quality of care.

Afton is a beautiful nursing home with wonderful residents who live there. The management most of the time blame staff for work not being completed  properly, items being used too much etc. The main problem with Afton is not enough staffing.

Hard working team. Did not receive a lot of support from management team. Moral is low, which can make for a hard shift as increased sick calls. Hardest part of the job was working with families and staff. Best part of the job was working with residents, hearing their stories.

Good leadership, great team.  Always trying to support each other. 
The work is dynamic, but that is why working time flies unnoticed. The management loves its residents very much, they constantly come up with various entertainment and events.

Long term care is not an easy place to work but the people that work at Afton all make it worth it and the residents are like extended family to us! We all care ! 





Became a very toxic place to work - workloads heavier than managable with minimal support.  Senior management talking negatively about other employees behind their backs and created alot of anomocity in the workplace. 

So far it has been a really good experience at Afton, the staff are accommodating to us students to the best of their abilities, and they are caring towards the residents. I haven't had a bad experience as of yet.

What can I say, when you’re short staffed obviously you’ll be busy. More on your shoulders, calling people in just to have enough hands on deck. Other than your 2 breaks and your lunch, you will not have a moment to sit down and catch your breath.

I absolutely love Afton Park Place, The employees are all amazing and I love working with all the residents. I will be there for about a month longer, and I upset that my time will be over so soon!
