I worked at one of the Schools in Angus. Really enjoyed working with the children we supported and alot of my colleagues. Struggled with toxicity in the workplace which I didn't feel was fully dealt with by management. Felt I could've been supported by management more, but I didn't have any support and supervisions to really build that trust up.  I feel very much that we should all be working in partnership with everyone using our own individual strengths and I didn't really feel that was the work environment I was in. Felt very valued by alot of my colleagues but didn't feel valued at all by the work culture or system in general. There were alot of temporary staff which didn't make alot of sense as we always seemed to be short staffed. There seemed to be no emphasis on staff morale or wellbeing by the Council and not enough training. Not enough autonomy or progression within the job and you felt quite stressed alot of the time trying to get everything done.  I didn't feel that any complaints I wanted to take to management would actually be dealt with in a professional way as there seemed to be staff that would be privy to certain information that they didn't need to know; it was quite gossipy.  Such a vital role and actually there could be so much more room for development if they invested in more permanent/bank staff, more training so it was seen and respected as the career it could've been rather than the job it was! 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing. A terrible employer who show no regard for the wellbeing of their employees.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The individuals who are promoted tend to gain positions in spite of lacking leadership qualities. Leaders show a criminal disregard for employees rights.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic and detrimental to their employees mental health. HR are aware of problems and yet do nothing.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and consists of daily dramas.

Since returning to work here I have witnessed daily examples of the following:
Favouritism
Presentism
Management pulling rack at expense of team
Active constructive dismissal procedures
Working with children has been the highlight but the adults seem only too ready to add unnecessary stress to an already demanding role


I love my work as it varies. I have gained much experience and confidence on reception as well as in my job as an exercise coach. I work in various sports centres which is great as I deal with many people. Enjoying my job and making people smile makes it worthwhile.

Terrible to work for.  Don’t care about their employees. No contract given to me in 4 years. Shambles when I asked to my contract to proceed with a mortgage application. Left alone with challenging children all day and attacked, bitten, punched, hit et and nothing done to protect me from future attacks. Do not work in a classroom here.

Good place to work but taken on as apprentice and no apprentices were offered a job at the end of the term therefore I am now finding it difficult to find permanent employment. Management and not overly supportive but rate of pay and hours were fair for the position I held.

As a foster carer, if your face doesn’t fit with an Angus employee, then they will make things difficult for you. To the point that many great long standing carers were forced out. 

I was made to feel welcome, they were very organized and always had loads of work for me to carry out, they even put me in charge of the telephones. I would not change my experience for the world.

Busy environment, working with some fabulous children and staff. Not all school assistant jobs are as demanding as each other, but somewhat unfairly we all get paid the same amount

Working as a Language Support Tutor in my angus works scheme was very rewarding for me as a linguist, and I loved the opportunities I was given to work in schools all around Angus.
