This a company that's all about profit first and employees last. 

As there CEO says "i'v had a job for 20(whatever) years because I keep my employers happy and my shareholders happy". Everyone else means nothing to him. 

Techs really have it the worst though. They work long hours with low pay, Techs are promised for paid overtime but when they hand in the time sheet, it will get rejected because there is no money in the job. And in the end its the employees that loose. Techs regularly come and go in every branch, which shows what kind of company it is .And always advertising for people, again a sign of the type of company they are. 

Seeing a collegue  work 70-80 hours a week to keep them happy and only paid for 40. In the end he won a large project only to be rewarded with a group email saying "well done". 

There is a lot better AV companies out there to work for. And want you to work for them.  

Also you have to pay to attend the xmas party. It will be organized for you, but at your exspence. 

Forcing people to quit so redundancy packages are not paid. And put all the blame on projects that dont make money on the last person who quit. Lots of executives like to use this tactic to take blame of under selling a job, and making them look good.

The most sneaky and worst AV company out there,stay miles away. 

Much better ones to work for

This company is very unprofessional on many levels. First of all, I was lied to during the interview process about how much travel was needed for the job. They made it seem that travel was uncommon and that it was strictly voluntary when required. On the second day of my employment, I was told, not asked, to prepare for travel to Northern Alberta for a week. In addition, I was told by an administrator that travel was needed and required at least once a month! Also, travel was based on a rotational schedule. This is extremely unprofessional and it was simply not disclosed on the job posting nor was it discussed during the interview process.

In addition, the company seems very disorganized and you will receive zero training prior to starting on the field. Leaving you very confused and feeling overwhelmed. This company is supposed to be a global leader in this industry and to be honest, the onboarding process felt very sloppy and cold. What a joke. I have received lengthy and extensive training from much smaller companies, ensuring you are comfortable and feeling confident prior to handling work. 

I do not recommend this place at all. Proceed at your own risk. 

AVI-SPL is one of the biggest AV companies, but there is still a feeling of family and individual identity in the company. In Canada at least, Management seems to legitimately care about their employees and there is a structured career path for every position that gives you a chance to discuss raises and promotions. Can be busy and a bit stressful with the large amount of work they do, but some of the projects are also really cool and are something you wouldn’t be able to do at a smaller AV company. 
Pay is about average in the industry, but they also have decent medical benefits, RRSP matching and a bonus plan for some positions. They have events like BBQs, charity events, and holiday parties to make it feel like a good place to work.
The people are friendly (again, I mostly only know Canada) and managers are always willing to listen. 
Overall, if you are ok with being busy (but also have good job security) I would say AVI-SPL is a better than average company to work for.

All talk no action describes them well, they will land big jobs by telling customers what they want to hear but never finish on time and it's usually the employees who suffer because they are blamed for working too slow. Jobs are under bid and they always end up losing money because of it.

Very executive driven company and micromanaged more than it needs to be to the point where all managers seem to hate the execs above them because they are trying to pinch pennies. The execs in the company all think they are cool with their Microsoft Surface and having useless meetings over Skype or Polycoms, if they spent more time working with managers customers things might be better. 

As soon as work slows they get rid of employees for whatever excuse works for that day, no mercy and it doesn't matter if you worked there 3 years you will be gone when the money stops flowing in.

Typical day at work is pretty much getting your invite for a job-site for the day, loading up and getting to the site. So far, what I've learned is that the Canadian branch for AVI-SPL is basically Sharps Audio-Visual, where the management can basically do whatever they want, and fire you on the spot when you're not in favor with the boss. Workplace culture is basically just work, and you don't get a raise until you actually set your foot outside of the company for resignation. The hardest part of the job is that there is a disconnect with the executives and the technicians, where sales try to up-sale unnecessary equipment to the clients without consulting with the technical personnel and sometimes doesn't make sense with the design for a room. The most enjoyable part of the job is that, all of the technicians are in the same boat. So it's quite a ride.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The company is good and have good perks, but the one manager of the onsite tech don´t support growth,  he stopped having 1 to 1 meeting with me after I asked about a possible internal move to another team. His words were, " I will stop investing in you"- " I am disappointed on you" - " I should be the first person after your spouse to know your life plans" and more...

Not stressful at all, company has good culture

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
fun, good events, flexibility, benefits

What is the best part of working at the company?
There were zero redeeming qualities at this company.  By far the worst income to BS ratio.  The female PM will treat you poorly.  Zero direction for the company and yor career.  This place is the sweatshop of AV companies in Edmonton.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything will stress you out.  Job security is non existent.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible, there is no work culture here.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You will be expected to be there before you are on clock getting paid for it.

I worked for AVISPL Canada and the company they purchased was running out of a closet and run the same way. Dishonest and very untruthful.

During interviews management will "sell" the company as Family oriented and the positions come with great benefits such as familly days, vacation and promises of training. All False!

Also if you think you enjoy commisions.... beware! You will not see what you agreed to.

Stay away as there are other very reputable Canadian company's willing and able to live up to contacts that you agree to.

They are being sued by a few already and they havent made it a year yet!

Warned....

As a contract worker, I feel that I am one of the regular employees doing the Accounts Payable batches for check run every week and Accounts Receivable follow up of outstanding customer accounts and processing of various employees expense reimbursement using Microsoft Dynamics AX system.  The system gave me more knowledge of different system that I used in various businesses establishments the past.
