A typical day at work:
A typical day at Aviom Builders is hands-on and fast-paced. Work usually starts with reviewing tasks for the day, coordinating with supervisors and team members, and then carrying out construction-related duties on site. Each day can be different depending on the project stage, which keeps the work engaging.

What I believe I learned:
Working at Aviom Builders helped me develop practical construction skills, improve my understanding of site safety, and learn how to work effectively as part of a team. I also gained experience managing time, following plans, and adapting to changing job requirements.

Management:
Management is generally approachable and knowledgeable. Supervisors are experienced and provide guidance when needed, although communication can sometimes be brief due to the busy nature of the work. Expectations are clear, and accountability is emphasized.

Workplace culture:
The workplace culture is professional and team-oriented. Employees are expected to work hard and support one another to meet deadlines. There is a strong focus on getting the job done efficiently and safely.

The hardest part of the job:
The hardest part of the job is the physical demand and working under tight deadlines, sometimes in challenging weather conditions. The work can be tiring, especially during long shifts.

 The company operates within a close-knit, family-based structure where management responsibilities have transitioned to the next generation. However, there is a noticeable lack of formal management experience and structured leadership practices.

This has led to ongoing inefficiencies, including poor use of time and resources, limited planning, and unclear direction. There is minimal support from management, with expectations primarily focused on reporting rather than guidance, problem-solving, or team development.

The work environment is further challenged by resistance to change and improvement, as well as a lack of trust and collaboration among team members. Frontline staff are often required to carry the majority of the workload, while expectations remain high without the necessary support systems in place.

Forced to work over time, no work or home life balance. No help from management. Foreman and supers talk down and belittle you, degrade you and come at you aggressively and you’re supposed to just sit there and get walked all over. Do yourself a favour and walk away from this company. Accepting a job from axiom is signing your life away to them. Never seen as many safety concerns as I did working with them and it’s due to axioms poor lack of communication. Weekly tool box meetings are maybe once a month. Left by yourself to work with little to no guidance. Given 10 jobs to finish all at once and pulled in every direction while Trying to do so. This company doesn’t appreciate their workers at all. 

My experience at this company was disappointing due to consistently poor management and a lack of proper onboarding or mentoring. Employees are expected to perform without guidance, and asking questions is often met with dismissive or unprofessional responses.  The culture is highly political, with managers surrounding themselves with people who only agree with them. There is little room for honest feedback or independent thinking, and turnover is extremely high. While the company promotes a positive public image, the internal reality does not reflect the same values. I would not recommend this workplace to those seeking growth, support, or stability.

Safety manager did more than just safety, he hired staff that had nothing to do with safety. There was no communication to learn from other sites that were written up by WCB. The foremen ran the sites, not the superintendents; poor collaboration. Safety officers got almost no support from the safety manager, no safety meetings for the whole company to learn from one another and to improve. Workers were favored, it took forever for workers to get a raise. If an injuried worker was off for too long, they would get laid him/ off. 

I loved my job as Construction Safety Officer for Axiom builders. However, there was little to no opportunity to collaborate/network/meet with other site CSOs in the company and very little in the way of performance review - unless you were being criticized.
On the plus side, CSOs were given (almost) ultimate responsibility for Safety on the job site over Axiom empoyees and subtrade employees.

It has been a good learning experience overall , it gave me the opportunity to work on big scale construction projects. 
Management is good overall , the only downside is that the safety officers  are being transferred in the duration of projects and the shuffling of staff is a little too much.Especially, having good relationships with the Supers, and upper management and the sub trades . I find it annoying to start over and over again at various locations, when I'm doing well where I'm at.

A great place if you’re young and eager to start a thriving career in construction. Hours are long and it’s a fast-paced work environment with inspiring people all around. One of the best HR teams that I’ve ever worked with who were approachable, relatable and all around good people. Great company culture with fun events!

The people I work with, and the superintendent are great and fair and they don’t micromanage
