The Coalition is truly the worst place I have ever worked. Please do not waste your time, empathy or skillset on this train wreck of an organization. I took the liberty to write a more accurate job description.

Job Title: Organizational Dysfunction Specialist

Job Description:

Are you skilled at managing complex organizational challenges and navigating difficult workplace dynamics? Are you ready to leverage your expertise to drive dysfunction and toxicity within an organization? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Organizational Dysfunction Specialist.

As an Organizational Dysfunction Specialist, you will play a key role in perpetuating and maintaining the toxic culture that defines our workplace. Your responsibilities will include:

Cultivating Toxicity: You will actively cultivate and perpetuate a toxic work environment by undermining trust, fostering conflict, and promoting negative interactions among team members.

Undermining Collaboration: Your expertise will be instrumental in discouraging collaboration and teamwork, instead encouraging competition, backstabbing, and self-serving behavior among employees.

Discouraging Growth: You will work to discourage employee growth and development by stifling innovation, limiting opportunities for advancement, and punishing those who challenge the status quo.

Promoting Burnout: You will champion a work culture that glorifies overwork and burnout, pushing employees to their limits and disregarding their well-being in the pursuit of productivity.

Facilitating Turnover: Your efforts will contribute to high turnover rates within the organization as employees become disillusioned and disengaged. You will excel in creating an environment where talented individuals feel compelled to leave in search of healthier work environments.

Working with the Coalition was a journey, and albeit sometimes challenging, it was filled with purpose, pride, and I've found immense satisfaction in contributing to the ACEH's impactful mission.

While the work comes with its share of challenges, including navigating conflict, regulations and addressing the diverse needs of those we support, I've witnessed the team's resilience and dedication firsthand. Some might not agree; however, I witnessed how leadership viewed challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation. You have to be willing to speak up about the potential issues and its always helpful to come forward with a solution in mind.  

It's also important to recognize that the nature of the work may not be suitable for everyone. However, attempting to tarnish the name of the organization by those who may not be cut out for the challenges faced, demonstrates a lack of understanding for the greater work. I observed and felt that criticism is welcome, and so it is essential to distinguish between genuine concerns and personal grievances. It's unfortunate that some negative comments may stem from individuals who were not a fit for the team, and their frustrations misplaced. 

Despite the inherent challenges in the work, such as navigating regulations and addressing diverse resident needs, I've witnessed the team's resilience and dedication. These challenges become opportunities for growth and innovation, showcasing the collective commitment to making a meaningful impact.

 I've observed a trend that I believe needs addressing: the pervasive use of the term "family" to describe our workplace culture. While it may seem warm and inclusive on the surface, my experience has revealed a darker reality.

At the Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness, the concept of a "family" often masks a toxic environment where Abuse, Control, Exploit, and Harm (ACEH) thrive. The top management, while emphasizing loyalty, tends to encourage overwork and sacrifice. This, unfortunately, fosters an environment where power dynamics are exploited under the guise of familial bonds.

The façade of a close-knit clan quickly fades when confronted with the truth. The blurring of personal and professional boundaries creates a breeding ground for unhealthy dynamics and emotional turmoil. Genuine feedback is stifled, and dissenting voices are often dismissed or even punished.

For those considering joining, I urge caution. Not all "families" are created equal, and the emotional baggage that comes with this one is not worth it. 

This company will use their support workers to get what they need out of them and then toss them aside when they speak up for their rights. Be prepared to deal with various and dynamic challenges that they will not train you for, nor will any of your coworkers be qualified to deal with. This company receives massive amounts of money from the government yet they cannot pay  their workers a fair wage that they deserve for the massive amounts of work they have to put in. If you enjoy working for a company that loves buzz words such as "cullturally sensitive" and "Indigenous focused" then by all means. However these terms are a fallacy and you will receive no such "training" in either of these areas. 

The Directors (with a few distinctions) at this organization are at the very minimum unqualified to be in the positions they are in.  
The Directors of ACEH make hiring and firing decisions based on a sick popularity contest where mediocrity is rewarded and compency is punished. 
If you are interested in working for an organization that will allow you ignore clients, pay your personal cleaning company from your budget, and decide who you help based on if you like them or not, you should apply. 
If you want to work for an organization that values, ethics, integrity and that respects their employees, work somewhere else.

Zero things nothing positive about working at this company 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is unprofessional and topdown
And only care about they’re own agendas

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic culture and low morale and unprofessionalism is rampant

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long and unappreciated days and the only joy comes from the clientele being served

I knew the moment I boarded the ACEHS bus I knew I was in for a good, meaningful and satisfied ride. The first step with onboarding could be misunderstood as chaotic but that what 'change' is. If one has never boarded a change bus then one will never know the true meaning of CHANGE. After a few weeks at ACEHS and with a lot of questions asked, I was starting to grow confidence. The HR team did an amazing job in providing on board training and orientation meetings. This is a great place to work if your a change maker...

What is the best part of working at the company?
The clients  (family members) 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poorly equipped management. Lack of expertise and training. Unethical practices.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Backstabbing and gossip. Poor staff relations and lack of client centered care. Poor options for recovery from substance use disorder.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Unpredictable due to poor management

The organization is toxic, mainly due to  management and inexperienced coworkers.  Working with coworkers  who have no experience in addiction or mental health is stressful,  especially working with new Moms who are in active addiction or new in recovery.  Moms are not culturally supported . Toxic  work environment,  lots of gossip, bullying backstabbing amongst staff.

Never has proper management. The “management” was very petty & expects staff to dedicate entire life to the Job, if you disagree with management there is a strong possibility that you’ll have your hours cut. Has no regard for staffs mental health. If you want to work in this field it is a good thing to have on your resume but I don’t recommend for a permanent/life long position.
