I have had the privilege of working at Access Healthcare Services Inc. for the past year and a half, and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The company truly stands out in the healthcare industry for its commitment to both employee satisfaction and patient care.

As a seasoned RPN, I’ve worked in a variety of healthcare environments—but nothing could have prepared me for the deeply toxic atmosphere at Access Healthcare Services Inc. What I thought would be a supportive, patient-focused agency turned out to be an emotionally draining and professionally demoralizing experience.

From the moment I started, it was clear that this company values profit and control over staff well-being or quality of care. The management style is authoritative, dismissive, and completely lacking in empathy. Concerns brought forward by nurses are brushed off, and speaking up is often met with retaliation or outright hostility. If you’re looking for support, advocacy, or even basic respect as a healthcare professional, you won’t find it here.

The scheduling was chaotic, often changed at the last minute, with zero regard for work-life balance. There was constant pressure to pick up shifts, even when it was on your scheduled day off. It felt less like working as part of a healthcare team and more like being treated as a disposable number.

The culture among staff was equally toxic, with cliques, gossip, and a complete lack of accountability. Instead of fostering teamwork and communication, management turned a blind eye and allowed the environment to become increasingly hostile.

To any RPN or nurse considering a position with Access Healthcare Services Inc.—I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. Your skills, your time, and most importantly, your mental health, deserve far better. This place will burn you out and leave you questioning a career you once loved.


A very high turnover rate at the company. If you try to do your job decently, it means you will have to work overtime or take on more work since the tasks are not fairly divided. They pay you bare minimum, and you have to cover shifts all the time is what they expect from you. Their attitudes fluctuate based on how helpful/loyal you seem to be.

Ensure that you check your paystub carefully, most of the times it’s always off. They make nepotism pretty obvious in the company. Make sure you don’t gossip because they might be someone else’s family member. Bonuses are not given fairly. Special treatment is also given to upper management’s acquaintances as clients which raise a lot of questions.
There is no diversity in this company’s management and passive aggressive attitude is the norm here. They also don’t like to let you work from home and willing to change policies for acquaintances. Since the company keeps changing schedules/lack staff, most of the time clients get upset for not knowing about the change and someone that is not in management team will be blamed. Field staff are burnt out. I appreciate most of the PSWs. Nurses are rude, like to give you lessons, tell management on every little mistake you make or simply ignore your emails completely til you call them.

Overall, only work here if you have no other option, part time and if you're able to set boundaries with them from the start.


The job itself is decent, it is fast paced and ideal for those who enjoy problem solving as often you need to find solutions for the PSWs or clients to ensure they are happy with their care and hours...A lot of cutting corners here.. 
The overall office environment, I would say is dependent on Management. High turnover for all positions as the company itself often overloads work on everyone from Management to Coordinators which cause a very stressful environment. There is major conflict of interest in this company since newest management, promoting family members and friends only, which can leave no room for growth if not related it seems like. Hours were somewhat flexible, enough to please everyone and attempt to be fair by having rotational weekend shifts, which helped to not have only 1 or 2 people work every weekend. 
The pay could be higher however when you look at the company size, the starting pay is pretty decent compared to other Home care companies in the area. Accounting needs to be updated. Their accountant cannot for the life of her get it right, and every paycheck is different, either overpaid or underpaid. CEO is great and friendly and easy to talk too but will not aid in problem solving if an office employee is not happy. Overall, decent learning experience but cannot trust any of the managers.

Access is a great place to work if you are looking for a career in the community healthcare field.  The work environment is fast paced by nature of the industry. The workplace culture at access is  positive and supportive. You don’t just feel like a number here like you do with some bigger organization. For example, Access makes a point of celebrating its staffs personal accomplishments and providing recognition to those who go above and beyond. 
The team itself is very supportive, almost everyone is willing to jump in and help their team mates whenever needed. Managers develop a close relationship with their teams and are always available to support staff when needed. 

If you are looking to progress in your career there are lots of opportunities within the organization to develop your skills.  The company also has a great tuition assistance program available for everyone.  

Salaries are fairly standard and employees are given opportunities to increase their salaries. 
The only advice I would give to Access is to continue to match market value for employee benefits. The benefits program is good in comparison  to with similar sized organizations, however could use some updating if they are trying to compete with larger companies. 

Overall Access is a great company to work with an outstanding team. 


The Management Team, coordination team, other members that step up to help when needed, really demonstrate amazing soft skills, communication skills, awesome Team attitudes and actions, always offering support to all of us with professional, caring, informed, friendly mannerisms that are in the best interest of our clients and us as staff providing the care. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing you can and have the skills, the opportunity to care for your clients, their needs and building that relationship of trust with them and seeing them smiling, laughing and overall happy that you provided a skilled service in many levels for them. There’s always opportunity to learn and build on your skills with Access Health Care backing you. A typical day at work as a PSW is calling your clients the night before informing them who you are and at what time their visit has been scheduled at the following day. Calling them when your on your way, again confirming with them at what time you expect to arrive and then seeing each client, regardless of the weather conditions. You are their advocate and their only lifeline to help them at times.  I feel really blessed and honoured to work for Access Healthcare. I feel this is without a doubt the best Company I have ever worked for.

I have worked for this company for nearly 2 years.  So far it has been an overall good experience although there is a lot to learn especially if you have not worked in community or home care previously.    The organization strives hard to promote a positive workplace environment. They value their employees and make an effort to ensure the well-being of their staff.

The work environment is overall positive and collaborative. Colleagues are respectful and the teamwork is great. The company also provides ample opportunities for career advancement and skill development, which I really appreciate.  Basically, you get back what you put in.

Salary is decent and the monthly bonuses are generous (as long as you do your job).  Friday lunches are also a great perk.

Like any job it comes with its challenges. The work can be demanding at times, and dealing with clients' health issues can be emotionally draining. But the company provides resources and support to help manage these situations.

Overall, I would recommend this company to healthcare professionals seeking a fulfilling career in a supportive environment.

I have been with this company for a few years! Management always jumps to conclusions and writes up staff right away instead of following up with situations first, feels like they just try and find a way to fire anyone they personally don't like. 

Upper management is very fake and toxic and are very out of touch with what actually happens as they are not in the same office. 

CEO thinks buying lunch on Fridays for in office staff is better then increasing workers wages. Again i have been here for a few years and the CEO does not think its fair to up the pay. There are bonuses but the tiers to get the full bonus are nearly impossible, they blame staff not showing up with no call on coordinators which affects their bonus same with clients that want to cancel their visit. Coordinators should not be held accountable if clients decide to cancel their visits. 

Overall it is not the best work environment ans for the pay I would not recommend especially as they have no regard for any mental health and pile too much on people. No matter how much you raise your concerns whether it is to management or HR they will either brush it off or ignore your emails. 

Prior to working for Access, I had never worked for an agency/company whom actively prioritized employee work/life balance.
Management at Access strategize, plan and initiate ways to maintain/improve work/life balance for employees, while also ensuring quality of care for clients. In the current climate of healthcare, this is profound. 
Colleagues and management are very helpful, kind and patient; this is especially important during training and early days of employment with Access. 
In one year of working for Access, I have had the opportunity to broaden and sharpen my skill set, which I was unable to do at previous employment due to restrictions on scope of practice. The skills I have learned with Access are invaluable and provide a strong foundation to build upon throughout my nursing career. 
Most of all, it is a breath of fresh air to be able to interact with clients in their homes, without feeling rushed or pressed for time. This makes a world of difference for both the employee, and more importantly, the client. 
Access is a wonderful agency with so many opportunities for education and professional growth.

On paper, this would have been my perfect job! I’d likely have stayed as a career move if it weren’t for the reality of it. The demands of the position are so painfully unrealistic, and absolutely no one in upper management or HR cares or listens when a concern is brought forward. More support is desperately needed, but instead the response is always something to the tune of “you must not be managing your time well”, very gasslight-y. The high turnover is hard proof that this company does not operate well. The pay is not at all worth the amount of stress you deal with in a day, and errors in pay are frequent and often ignored. I have both witnessed and experienced guilt trips to the field and office staff to push themselves beyond their breaking point, or do perform tasks that feel immoral. If it weren’t for the genuine caring for the clients, I believe no one would stay working for Access. I loved my direct supervisor, fellow Coordinators, and many field staff, but sadly in a very in-the-trenches holding each other up kind of way. I feel very sad that many don’t feel they have another option to leave.
