Throw the right to refuse unsafe work out the window. Does it matter if you have been hammered by heavy rains and 45 mile an hour wind gusts.     Does it matter if the crane and skip shut down an hour ago so in case of emergency you have no way down but a stair case from the 26 floor or the fact all other work crews shut down 30 minutes ago so you are alone on deck. I guess not because we were told to stay another 90 minutes to finish the job and when we refused we were sat the next day to leave us with an amazing 14 hr pay check for the week. Then after reporting this to safety I found myself sitting 3 or more days a week. How do spell grievance  because I feel I am justified and have all the communications between people to prove my case. With so many good people to work with in the field it is an unfortunate circumstance that happens far to often between workers and miss management at this company.

Its, hot, cold dirty, heavy work. You've got to be safe. You've got to be aware. You've got to be smart. You've got to be accurate for this job. It was great until the GM was moved to Denmark on a windmill project. The new GM is a man that you feel like you can't trust. Only wants yes men. We gave tons of feed back and he ignored us even when we went above him. Tons of workplace improvements under him yet morale went down... that is not suppose to be possible. When getting his office fitted for new windows, laid off more than half the work force due to lack of work. He wanted 80 tons a day yet it is also kinda his job to insure that we get the jobs needed and he didn't. Most of us are still on lay off and are approaching 35 weeks of constantly extended lay offs. As I said, great place to the current GM took over our shop.

once i saw a crane operator walking with a load around head height watching his phone instead of the load i was finished. 
this could be a great place to work, except they no longer promote from within... therefore every position there is a dead end job.... and supervisors have not performed the jobs they are supervising so efficiency and ease is up to the machine operator, who will be constantly frustrated by mismanaged materials lists and causing too much waste and way more rebar to be moved than is neccesary. its all moved to the machine by muscle... 18 meters a piece, ranging from 10mm to 55mm in diameter. that stuff is heavy.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is rude and disrespectful on the regular. Mental health is not a priority. Everyone is miserable and keeps their heads down. Break room is barren since it feels uncomfortable. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Greatest accomplishment is how much you can drink. "work hard and play hard", but do not see the play part. 
Be prepared to hear "Sink or swim" alot

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long hours, trying to figure out what your manager wants before they know.

Safety is not a priority with this company.

Working with 3 cranes, multiple trucks being loaded and many workers moving about with a tight work environment is not safe. They did not train me properly on my responsibilities for work. Cranes do not have horns so workers have to shout at one another if they need to move out of the way, most of the time did not communicate for that sort of stuff anyways. 

The only people who had radios were Supervisors and lead hands which I thought was dumb. 

Workers were rude, clearly substance abusers and majority didn't care about others safety.

Such a high turnover of General Managers, each one coming in with less experience than the last. Thus pushing qualified and hard working dedicated people out the door. No chance of advancement unless you are Francophone. No leadership at all, employees are just doing what ever they want with no direction or feed back unless some one "rats you out" which is constant in order to look good to the boss. Last week 1 estimator 12 yrs gone, 1 very senior detailer 6 yrs gone, another senior detailer 4 yrs gone. Hmm does any one see a pattern here?

If you're someone experienced in the transportation/rebar industry then the daily activities of the company will flow smoothly for you. Some people working here have been here for more than a decade. However, if you're looking for growth &  to move up the ladder then stay away from this place. Management is very ignorant & they like to micromanage the good, productive workers while the unproductive, lazy coworkers can get away with anything. From being absent for weeks to playing with the company's money without anyone intervening. 

Unfortunately, the foreman put quantity above all else. Safety is NOT a priority at the London, Ontario location. 

- I've often watch the crane lift material above workers' heads.
- The tools/equipment provided are old, unsafe and slow employees down.

There's such a hire turnover and it's easy to see why. Upper management doesn't have a clue what the foreman are like and until that issue is resolved, safety is taken more seriously, AGF Rebar Inc. will be a horrible place to work.

After a few months of working under pressure of being the number one temp staff member for overall production, I was expected to exceed the levels of expectation and was pushed harder and harder verbally, and physically, until I was almost too exhausted, with sickness to return to work.
If you can handle a heavy job, under serious pressure, and a overheated environment with nothing but challenges. It's for you.
