Air Cadets

I am the Warrant Office First Class for 608 Duke of Edinburgh Squadron; I am in charge of all the cadets at this squadron. One a week the whole squadron of 608 meets up every Wednesday night at 6:00 PM. A typical night for me at 608 Duke of Edinburgh Squadron begins at 5:30 PM that is when I arrive at the Armouries in Belleville. The first thing I do is check in with the officers and plan what is in order for tonight. At 6:00PM the cadets begin to arrive, when all cadets are present we begin with are opening parade, I am in charge of the organizing of this. After the parade there are classes that take place I supervise all classes that take part throughout the night. After all the classes are done for the night there is a closing parade,  In the closing parade I give briefing to the cadets about are upcoming events in the area that the squadron is attending. After the parade I supervise the cadets clean up the building before they leave. After all the cadets have  gone home I check back in with the officers to see if there is anything else that needs to be done for the night. If there is nothing else to do my night is done. I have been in the air cadets for seven years and there are many things I have learned about myself in that time, such as that I am responsible loyal and a great team player with everyone. The officers at 608 Duke of Edinburgh Squadron are the most amazing people out there; they care about every cadet in the program and work hard to make them succeed. The younger cadets respect each other and get along with everyone there. The hardest part of my role at my squadron is organizing many different events going on at one time, but I get around this by getting my older cadets to help run and organize the events for me. When this is complete everything works out perfectly and goes smoothly. The most enjoyable part of my role at 608 Duke of Edinburgh Squadron is knowing that the younger cadets below me are having fun and enjoying air cadets. Also I enjoy knowing that the younger cadets will continue with the air cadet program. As long as the younger cadets enjoy the program I enjoy it as well.

On a regular Wednesday night at cadets everything runs smoothly unless cadets show up late or the CO is running late but I have learned that being a senior cadet you have to come across a lot of challenges each month. For example we went on one of our field training sessions and it was raining the entire weekend, so we had to find ways to keep dry and warm. Also with the tents for them not to blow away. I would say the only hard part in this job is to make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be doing. since its a large group of people it can be a challenge.

Air Cadets is a wonderful experience in my perspective. Enables you to interact with new people around the city from different schools. During Air Cadets you will be taught drilling, and discipline as well. This is the best place to meet new people have fun and enjoy time, while being taught new life skills. If you want more knowledge on the army, or want to become a pilot one day, this is the great spot for you.

when i was in air cadets i had learned about turbulance, how to shoot a pellet gun and how to survive in the woods for a day. when i was in sea cadets i learned more than i was in air. i had learned how to clean my uniform i also learned first aid and how to sail a boat, and tie a couple knots. i learned that on a boat the right is the starboard and the left is the port, the front is the bow. i learned that waves have something to do with the moon pulling the water back and forth creating waves.

As a cadet I had many great life opportunities, including meeting the Lieutenant Governor General of Manitoba, meeting many Canadian Forces members, learning to fly, learning about the qualities of a good citizen. As a cadet I made many friends and I am sure that i will talk to some of them for a long time, I learned leadership skills and discipline.

It was a good overrall learning experience, I had the chance to learn about discipline  and collaboration with others. Responsibility was also something I learned in the Air Cadets program, the hardest part of this was to perform our marches in perfect timing. The people there were the best part of the Air cadet squad, i learned from so many people.

Air cadets is an extra curricular activity that teaches basic skills to its attendees. This skills included survival, marksmanship, leadership, communications, navigation, and the the list goes on. Air cadets is for age groups of 12 - 19 and I would recommend those who can to join.

If you ever want to get yourself on the right track when you're young, Cadets is fun, safe, and you learn disipline, how to take care of yourself, how to be professional, and how to be social with others!

having to play with them and having a good communication with the staff

This is a place for Children and youth ages 12-19 and this is a place where they can learn how to be a leader and teach fun classes and also learn about Airplanes. This teaches you discipline and time management and you make long-lasting friends.
