Alberta Hip and Knee Clinic

A typical day at work begins with a daily meeting with all the staff to discuss the daily schedule. On certain days, I run full day outpatient clinics with the Orthopaedic surgeons and we determine which patients are surgical or not. We assess patients at 6 weeks, yearly, and as needed basis after their hip or knee replacement. During clinics, we order MRI's, Bone Scans and other diagnostic exams. On other days at work, I teach patients who are headed for a hip or knee replacement. Teaching involves going over health histories, medicals, past surgeries, and post surgical care. I also see patients two weeks after their surgeries and assess their incision and overall health. I have gained great critical thinking knowledge working here. It is as though every staff member contributes equally and it feels like a family. The nurses work directly with the physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians etc...The managers are extremely approachable and always willing to help and give their opinion on cases.

It’s a big work load, steady hours and a decent pay with nice benefits. The drama is unreal and strings can be pulled to have you fired whenever they decide you’re not liked by specific people, even after your 3 months (google it). The bosses are ok, one in super kind and genuinely there for her employees and the good of the clinic but the manager is immature and two faced. You’re told to deal with your problems and then seek help from management but don’t ever actually do it, just keep your mouth closed and your eyes down! Don’t think anyone is your friend, just do your work and don’t worry about “friends” in this clinic. Would not recommend.. I know multiple of their employees are actively searching for drama free environments with secure positions. Good luck to whoever takes it on. Surgeons are pretty nice overall but a couple have power trip issues. 

Flexibility in start and end day hours. OT needs approval and is often granted due to high workload.   Exceptional opportunity to learn or develop surgical management, waitlist management and time management skills. Work independently with a MOA,  there are variations to each teams approach but share knowledge and cover other teams during vacation time, when casual RNs not available.  Management underestimates the workload and pressure teams have.  Poor communication with Management and especially with change, little room for negotiation.  Management disconnect, leading to high turnover with MOAs and in recent years with nursing staff as well.  Surgeons are very approachable, pleasant to work with and highly supportive.  Patients understandably are frustrated by multiple waitlists and dealing with pain.  

Overall positive experience, the clinic staff are excellent and so good at what they do! team moral is always high. Heavy workloads are the killer! There are so many patients getting pumped through the clinic that it is hard to have quality assessments and it definitely creates a stressful vibe. This is no fault to the Hip and Knee Clinic, however, this is AHS's problem that they are trying to solve (surgical wait times).

I feel like this was an great place to work. The staff are so friendly and nice. The management are great and really supportive and fair. I have never had a issue i felt was brushed off or not listened too. The pay is good the hours are good. The workload is high but they create a good worklife balance for you. The surgeons are wonderful. I have made some good connections and friends working here overall i am gratful for the expierence. 


After working for a couple of years. Workplace toxicity contributes to a high staff turnover. Ineffective management. Surgeons are great.
I wouldn’t recommend this company to any of my colleagues until things get sorted out with management. Worked too many hours and family suffered.
Positive side is the patients and very respectful surgeons
Need medical team to manage medical staff so there is an understanding of work

I wouldn't recommend anyone. The position is great in terms of patients but you have the Director and manager working against you at the same time

Autonomous and individual to the surgeons you are working with.


Overall very positive experience. Lots of opportunities to learn. Supportive and understanding leadership team. Rewarding patient interactions. Helpful teammates. Really good benefits. (Health and RRSP match)

Colleagues are wonderful. 
HR Management needs to change immediately. Unqualified and incompetent 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management. They provide zero to little help and are never around.

Great place to work, everyone is very inviting and kind. Work can be a bit overwhelming at times, but that is why you have a team. You could always ask anyone for help.
