AMA presents itself as a values-driven organization, but behind the branding is a deeply dysfunctional and controlling workplace. Senior leadership is built on personal alliances rather than proven ability, and as a result, decision-making is centralized, slow, and frequently disconnected from operational reality. Autonomy is virtually nonexistent—most decisions, even minor ones, are funneled up to the CEO.

Poor executive choices are commonplace, but rather than taking accountability, leadership tends to shift blame downward and attempt to "fire their way out" of their own missteps. Terminations are frequent, abrupt, and often aimed at silencing dissent rather than addressing root causes. The turnover rate speaks for itself—people don’t stick around because the environment makes it impossible to thrive.

The workplace culture is driven by fear, not trust. Collaboration is undermined by insecurity, and infighting has become a survival strategy. Employees, exhausted and demoralized, are often pitted against one another. It’s heartbreaking to see talented people lose their sense of purpose and start throwing each other under the bus just to avoid becoming the next target.

Perhaps most disheartening is the state of the HR department, which should be a stabilizing and supportive force. Instead, HR mirrors the larger dysfunction: toxic culture, weak leadership, and no credibility among employees. Rather than advocating for people, HR seems to function more as a compliance and offboarding unit, managing exits instead of enabling success.

If you’re considering a role here, ask why the position is vacant, ask about turnover, ask how decisions are made, and ask yourself whether you’re willing to work in an environment where psychological safety takes a back seat to damage control. This isn't just a tough place to work—it’s an organization where people often leave worse than they arrived.

AMA seems like a great place to work and I’m sure it is, in other departments but I would NEVER recommend someone apply for an MSR position with this company. For starters, the company is run on favouritism and nepotism, I wouldn’t have gotten this position if it weren’t for having an employee referral. I was told the position was casual but with the businesses demand, they’d be offering full time hours. Not ONCE did I see a full time paycheck working here, honestly,  I was lucky if I got the GUARANTEED minimum 16 hours a week. They also procrastinated on paying my referrals, referral bonus until they escalated the issue. The goals and targets are always moving, not to mention the policies and procedures constantly changing. it feels like you’re set up for failure by management unless you’re one of their friends. Ultimately I was let go without cause and given 1 weeks pay in lieu, was never given a reason but I suspect they hired too many people, didn’t have any work for them and cut their losses. They fail to recognize that this is peoples livelihood and it shows when you have to scrape up hours from your coworkers to even see a few hundred dollars. This may be a good job for a stay at home mom but if you have bills to pay, avoid this department at all costs. I’ve also had members tell me over the phone that AMA has way too many loop holes now, that the quality of their service isn’t what it used to be and I quote “I used to love AMA but the past few years it’s been a shameful company to work with” all the senior staff talk about how fun it USED to be back in the day but now that’s clearly not the case. Upper management is tone deaf and out of touch to these issues to the point it almost seems intentional. AMA may have been a great company once upon a time but now I feel it’s a company best to steer clear of

I am not sure about other divisions, but the Analytics department had a clueless director, and most managers reporting to him didn't fair better, marketing research is the exception. One way to tell is when they rely heavily on consultants for big decisions even though the staff can do analysis and come up with recommendations. The second was director suggesting we take a large undertaking to switch from one tool to another which basically do the same thing.

Their BI environment is not as developed as they imply during interview process and a preliminary review revealed some rookie mistakes such a large department with a pricey budget should never make. Things like incomplete joins that cause duplicate records or merging columns when it makes sense. My own direct manager threw me under the bus from day one. None of the information I needed to do my job was accurate, not even a website name. 

Despite all that there is an upside; pay is decent, hours are light and flexible, and you can scrap by with minimal effort. You don’t need much technical skills to do your job, I have nearly none, and the team accepts exceptionally low-quality output. The price, no promotions, learning or gaining experience and environment is tolerable but not great. If you basically want to do nothing, then this might be the place for you.

This company has left me mentally scarred for life. 
Too much micromanagement ! A lot of politics. Supervisors won't let you look good in the eyes of management if they think you're competition. Just imagine- you're fabulous in the eyes of one supervisor and then as soon as they leave,  the next one comes in and you suddenly become extremely incompetent. How is that even possible and that too within a week's time span?
Not flexible at all. Imagine going on a vacation, which was management approved only to come back and get asked to go into the manager's office to discuss how much pressure your absence put on the registries and that you dont take your work seriously. Unbelievable! Upper management knows that the manager is horrible and isn't a right fit for management but just decides to transfer them from one location to another, rather than removing them from the position. 
My coworker was right when they advised that no matter how much you do, they're always going to complain. 
Low pay. Do not treat you like family. Very very stressful environment. 
The management made ALL of us cry , it was that bad.  Extremely toxic !! You'll become depressed . Had to leave without another job lined up as they took away the confidence and self belief.
People, there are better opportunities out there ! 

AMA was a fantastic company to work for. The culture within the organization was family and friend oriented for employees and customers alike. AMA excelled at ensuring everyone within the company understood the expected behaviour of respect towards one another and the clients. 

At AMA not only did I learn how to promote and enhance organizational culture but various avenues within the field of Human Resources. As an entry level professional I was given the tools and opportunities to explore each faucet of HR assisting with projects, recruitment, employee programs, benefits and largely, health and safety initiatives. My typical day included data entry, but whenever I had "free time" I was able to explore other areas of interest. 

The hardest part of my job was that I was wanting more responsibility and opportunity to explore further into my interests and due to my position, I was unable to reach out of my primary responsibilities more often and there was no foreseeable advancement in the near future.

The most enjoyable part of my job was giving the employee the best possible benefit package, answering inquiries in regards to their employment and assisting my manager and co-workers with any "outside the box" projects.

From the first interview, they said all the right things.  And if you only had to deal with middle management and your operational coworkers, then you would do quite well.  On a day to day basis, the people you work with are good and competent people.  And in meetings with the upper management, you get the feeling that they are keeping you in the loop with corporate strategies and expectations.  The motto is "treat you like family", both as customers and as employees.
However, when upper management makes a decision to reorganize everything, they treat you more like the black sheep of the family than the prodigal child.  With no warning, I was "let go without cause" from a support position where there was literally no backup for.
And it appears to be based more on the needs of the bank account than the needs of the operation. They would likely buy square tires for all their vehicles if it cost them $1 cheaper.
Overall, it is best to be looking for contract work with them, because then you will know when to expect your job to end and be well prepared for it when it does.

AMA is a forward thinking company.  Advancing within the company is a definite plus.  They pay for your courses if they help to improve your chances for advancement, or if they are part of the criteria for the job.
They promote a somewhat relaxed atmosphere with a business casual dress code.
They often bring in lunch or arrange group barbecues within each department.

They are a company that gives back to the community by allowing each employee a paid volunteer day,  
They support a variety of charities and use their own staff at shredding events offered free to the general public.
We work within a team environment, and encourage co workers to 
invest in that ideal.
Work can be hectic, frustrating, busy but yet satisfying , pleasant and very rewarding.
I love my time there.

Long Hours: Regularly required to work 12-hour days instead of the expected 7-8 hours, leading to poor work-life balance and more time offs.

Low Pay: Compensation does not reflect the long hours and workload, making it difficult to justify the effort required.

Limited Skill Development: Primarily learned to troubleshoot outdated systems and cover for absent colleagues rather than gaining valuable professional growth.

Poor Management: Sudden changes with little communication, often using a condescending tone that makes employees feel undervalued.

Toxic Workplace Culture: Some colleagues are supportive, but many have been in the organization too long to accept change, creating a resistant and negative environment.

Unrealistic Expectations: Goals are unclear and unattainable, making it difficult to succeed.

Few Perks: The most enjoyable aspects of the job are frequent meetings and occasional food, but these do little to improve the overall experience.

AMA at one time was a desired employer, unfortunately with the new management it has gone down hill fast. At one time if an individual worked hard and followed procedures you would be rewarded and had the opportunity for advancement. Unfortunately now the only way to advance within the fleet is if you are willing to drink the corporate kool-aid and wear a distinct shade of brown on your nose. Lots of contradiction from upper management on everything from policy and procedures to the hiring process for new management. They stress everyone has a shot at advancing and go as far as teaching you how to write a resume in order to apply, yet groom those within their click for the position no matter if they have  experience or not. Experience or seniority means absolutely nothing anymore 
and  heaven forbid you question them on these points as you will be put under a microscope and eventually terminated "just cause" for any reason whatsoever and make it all legal with the help of their high paid lawyers.
