Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan

After working at ASEBP for some time now, I realize how lucky I truly am. This is a not for profit  benefit plan that genuinely cares about the one industry it serves; the education sector of Alberta.  The culture of ASEBP is that it takes care of their members and this goes for employees as well. HR works hard to ensure that employees have above market total comp (benefits are amazing!) and that employees are working on value added activities and have opportunity to move forward in their career. This organization also cares about ensuring you receive teh feedback you need to be successful, identifying areas where you can improve and providing a learning path on how to become a better professional. This is important for my learning and development. Its an organization that fosters balancing growth, acknowledging your achievements and keeping everyone accountable; this is what makes good professionals.  This organization is  fun, motivating and fulfilling in every way I could imagine an employer to be. Its the real deal. The much deserved top employer and psychological healthy workplaces awards over the years only further speak to that!

I really love working at ASEBP. The people are amazing, they seem to hire fun positive minded staff and I love my team. they are really great people to be with.  The work is fast paced but my supervisors are really supportive and caring.  I'm able to work from home the majority of time which is awesome. They make a huge effort to support mental health and work life balance. I love the 7 hour work days, my salary is fantastic, and benefits are the best I've ever had by far. I get an HSA and a WSA and an amazing pension plan from day one. The vacation and EDO program are excellent.  I love the days when I come into the office because it's a beautiful new building, great cheap underground parking.   My only complaint really is some of my collogues on other teams don't want to come into the office at all because they are so used to working from home the last two years. I miss seeing some people in person and going for lunches on a more regular basis. 

Management was very supportive. I had regular check ins with my manager. Lots of support for learning new skills and growing my career. My coworkers were great and all seemed to really love the work. HR team was really nice and seemed to love their jobs. They were really proud to be helping the education sector which gave a strong sense of purpose.  Not a lot of people left while I was there and so it was hard to move up but I was encouraged to build my career path which I did! The office is new and modern, great free coffee, tea and lattes!  The culture was really positive, people seemed really happy to get to work there. pay was very competitive and benefits were amazing. They seemed to really care about their people.  I wish I still worked there but I moved on to a more senior role elsewhere. Sometimes I regret my decision and I still watch for jobs at ASEBP.    

I've been with ASEBP for a number of years now, fulfilling various roles.  I've known a number of people who have worked for and still work for ASEBP for a very long time.  I applied for a number of years (including interviewing), before I landed my first position here.  My persistency in applying was due to the fact that I knew how incredible of an organization ASEBP was/is, and I wasn't going to give up!  I am very proud of where I work and beyond grateful to be here.  I've tried explaining all of the amazing things that ASEBP has to offer to those not in the organization, and it doesn't do it justice.  There are numerous growth opportunities, learning and development is supported and encouraged, incredible holidays, vacations, etc., great pay, benefits, events, culture, atmosphere, flexibility... the list goes on.  I highly recommend ASEBP to anyone who is interested in applying!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Responsive, attuned and supportive employer with unparalleled benefits and compensation packages. Always looking on how best to become a leader in their field and a top employer provincially and nationally. It was a privilege to work alongside such a professional and humane group of people top to bottom.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Deadlines as a result of monthly Trustee meetings.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is supportive, collaborative and very diverse. Leaders, management thought the C-suite are interested in their staff as human beings and not simply as cogs in a wheel.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, engaging and fulfilling.

When I was lucky enough to be hired at ASEBP a year ago, I was in a toxic work environment.  I knew I was unhappy, but didn't realize how much so until I started my journey with ASEBP.
The onboarding experience was amazing and considering all training was conducted virtually, I feel like I had the best trainer possible.  I quickly made friends, my manager was supported, and most importantly I feel like I bring value to the company, something I was sorely missing in my previous employment.  I feel my full range of skills are being utilized and there is definitely potential for growth and opportunity.  I am grateful everyday, for being given the opportunity to work in this great organization.

This organization is riddled with a highly toxic, outdated management style, particularly the Early Intervention Department. Leadership is out of touch with job demands and fixated on finding flaws and terminating employees for petty reasons rather than being a supportive learning environment. Moving up is based on who you know, not skill set. Pay is mediocre, which is fine, but it comes at a cost. Managers like to gaslight, call employees names, and bully them. They also like to spread gossip about staff and works hard to keep everyone separated, which is a very toxic way of leading.  It’s shocking what goes on here. 

Management have their fav staff and it is very apparent. Management re petty, no communication skills, training is really bad, trainer has little education and bad communication skills. No training program, they rely on one person as a trainer and she is horrible. management are a mean girls club.



I started at ASEBP in Plan Administration about 8 years ago. I immediately fell in love with the culture of the organization. The training was exceptional and my team was incredibly supportive. I could easily express any feelings I had and my Team Lead would work with me to solve any issues.

CTO and directors promote a toxic environment. Leaders fold under pressure from other departments to make themself look good. You will also be disciplined for asking harmless questions you need for your job or not being buddies with them. High pressure to work overtime.
