Amalgamated Heating

Amalgamated Heating is a great place to work. The shop has a small crew of about 4-5 people including the supervisor.  My day to day duties varied depending on where man power was dictated for the job at hand.  Whether it be insulating or bending sheet metal to fabrication.  

It was a slow year due to economy, but they still found work for us to do even if it were to clean up the back yard of scraps, tear down pallets etc.  Great place to get hands on experience if your interest is sheet metal.

Amalgamated heating is an company to do work for with amazing work enviroment. the shop is spaced out nicely with enough the right amount of space to fabicate and store ductwork. The building is well kept for a fabrication zone and co workers and supervisors were very friendly. The wage was competivive and more than enough to be satisfied. Everywork day wasn't too hard to manage and we had paid breaks so i went home feeling likei  did a job well done and i enjoyed my stay at Amalgamted heating.

They are so disorganized. The shop doesnt do a good job fabbing ducts. They mess them up so much you end up having to resend the cards over and over again. Sites are a mess. Plus they have a field super who is a bricklayer trying to run sites. He doesnt care about you or any concerns. If you express you cant go out of town he doesnt give 2 for you. They are losing money too. So stay clear!!

Ok place to work, though they are very unorganized and try to get by having the very minimum amount of supervision and people to run jobs. As soon as they are slow you will get laid off in a second and then they expect you to drop everything and go back there as soon as it picks up again, they could benefit from getting some extra people to run their jobs

*Do not work for this company!* Unless you are willing to be demoralized everyday, with terrible attitudes from upper-management! Expect to be lead on for a position you’re looking to be hired for, then get hired into a completely different position. Don’t be surprised when you’re told about how many hours you’ll be getting, then it turns out to be less! 

This company regularly forgets to pay their employees. Turn over rate is through the roof. You speak up or demand something is done about the total chaos that runs through the place and you get laid off. 0 appreciation for staff and they want to invest 0 money into their employees. I’ll be surprised if this place is still open in a year. 

It's a company where money is the main thing You make the boss lots of money he's happy with you otherwise hes not.. There's no feeling of job security there.. There's usually no where to advance your career there

On my first day of employment at Amalgamated, prior to my shift starting, I got to see and hear the Shop Foreman/PM engaged in a screaming match with a Journeyman in the parking lot, culminating in the PM headbutting the Journeyman.

9 hour days
asked last second to work saturdays
demeaning management
worked through lunch breaks on/off
was given a layoff on sunday
no apprentices in shop, all help was hired labour

They say they are sending you out of town for possibly a week but then strand out on the jobs site for a month.  They expect so much out of you but never think about offering anything in return.  Watch out!
