According to senior nurses new management took over in the Wellness Department, last year, and they were as confused as I was with some of the things happening.  I didn't stick around long enough to become senior staff.  Demands to accomplish multiple tasks in a shift but not given the resources to complete them.  Lots of lip service saying that they support you but no follow through.  New staff are are told to do things different ways creating confusion.  The needs to the clients increase but the staffing has stayed the same.  Many residents are admitted with little to no history, care plans or in some cases even knowledge that there is a new resident arriving causing chaos for the staff.  You are begging for basic supplies (cups, applesauce, spoons, wound supplies, a working BP or thermometer, etc.) on every shift.   Training and staff meetings are practically non existent.  I never went to a fire drill or had a checklist for my training shifts.  You need to clean up after yourself (cleaners are left for you to use) in the staff bathroom/lounge because housekeeping does not clean that area which leaves the bathroom disgusting because no one cleans up after themselves.  Schedules are all over the place and not posted the required two weeks in advance causing stress to casual staff and work-life balance.  Nursing staff is afraid to document truthfully (especially with injuries that are caused by residents ie: bites or scratches) because they get pulled in to managers office saying not to document and then when something happens they ask why behaviors are not documented or managers play dumb that they didn't know this was happening.  

I loved working at Amica and as a team we accomplished our goals with resident and team satisfaction as well as handled some devastating issues with the physical plant that negatively impacted the entire home. Since the team was in sync, these challenges were tackled and overcome.  I always had great support for both support office and the regional team.

After transferring to another home in another region, it was like stepping into the twilight zone. the workload doubled, assigned make work projects and reports that were not required in other regions. The leadership team was fairly new together and both the team and residents were not happy with the current state of affairs. We worked hard to overcome the challenges and re-gained the trust of the line team and the residents. 

I lost myself and my confidence in my abilities by continuous micromanagement, decision being overturned and a military style  by a toxic leader. This person affected the lives of so many team members and ensure there was a pipeline back reporting on what was going on in the home. 

After a hard break-up with Amica, it was sad to see the company turn away from it's values which was not the case at all earlier in my tenure. 

I learned a great deal from the experience and will not allow myself to work under a similar leadership style nor allow myself to be eroded as a professional to better someone else's career ambitions.

1.	High Stress with Limited Support
The culinary team is often understaffed, leading to high stress and long hours. Despite the dedication of the team, this understaffing makes it difficult to keep up with demands, which impacts both employee well-being and the resident dining experience. Additional support from management would make a significant difference.
	2.	Lack of Clear Communication
Communication within the department can be inconsistent, leading to confusion around expectations and scheduling. This lack of clarity often results in staff feeling unprepared for shifts and leads to inefficiencies in service delivery.
	3.	Limited Opportunities for Growth
The department seems to offer limited professional growth or development, with few opportunities for training or advancement. This can be discouraging for team members who are looking to build a career in the hospitality field.
	4.	Inadequate Recognition of Staff Efforts
The culinary team works hard to provide quality meals, often going above and beyond for residents. However, recognition from management is rare, leaving many employees feeling undervalued.

In summary, while there are talented and hardworking individuals in Amica’s culinary department, there are significant areas for improvement, especially in terms of support, communication, and appreciation. Addressing these issues would not only improve employee satisfaction but also elevate the overall quality of service.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best working in this company is that, as a staff I felt like I am home in this community. Although the wage is way lower than other home but still my heart goes to this community. The working environment is like a luxury hotel/spa just like what the paramedics said when they enter the facility. Everything is top notch!  Worker old or new have chance to meet each other every now and then thru small gathering( eating, dancing, team building etc) that’s why when someone leaves all of us felt heart broken because of our relationship. We are like family.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
1. Staff room is not big enough for the staff  during break time. 
2.Staff room fridge has no enough room for  staffing lunch. It’s always over pack.
3.  Wellness department load is overwhelming.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We have a nice work environment in general, although there are some toxic team member but, we just ignore them 2 or 3 only anyway for the whole building so not bad. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
If getting lucky it’s fine if I get help, but if no help a little bit stressful, but helping each other always there

I was there for almost three months .  I noticed that the GM was not only unprofessional and taking advantage of the women of his leadership team he also wasn’t taking proper protocols for residents safety. He would never Knew what was going on and would take all the other leaders ideas and put his name on it !!!  I took the step to stand up and When I had reached out to head office for a incident that occurred the GM found out and hit me with a. Fire after all the work I did to help their turnover within my time there ! Not only was I left humiliated but this man was not held accountable for having affairs and inappropriate behaviour with the DOC  and the front desk receptionist at another location . I was left  completely disgusted by how HR and the VP of Operations handled this . No one from head office spoke to me about the situation but was quick to listen to the GM to let me go . I reached out so many times and was never heard ! The company had other standards compared to these leaders that get away with these type of actions. I would never recommend this company to anyone !! It was a blessing in disguise as that environment was too toxic to work in !

              I must say I still miss this amazing place:) Worked there for 4 and a half years. I wrote a letter to everyone before I left. Still visit time to time whenever I can. Most have passed last time I went god bless and my condolences. Every single person within the years I worked where like part of another enormous family. Some residence were a little crusty but, once you got to know them and learn more about their incredible life skills, crazy life adventures, learn new skills, enjoy every word they say for they have been threw thick and thin. 

        I would have enjoyed still working there if the new company allowed me to work full time or pick my schedule for it took me 2 and a half years to get full time hours. But, every moment is unforgettable on how you had to keep on your toes to serve but, still be relaxed for you get to know each of them to a T that you end up memories all there drink orders, favourite foods also how to keep them smiling and also including your staff. The staff are also HUGE HEARTED SWEET HEARTS :) You are well missed AMICA hope your company is still striving and I shall come visit Westboro AMICA.

Was informed upon being hired of the expectation of the position, only to find out the reality of this position was five times greater and more stressful than informed.  Training Nurse looked clearly fed up, insisted I take med pass and help on the cart two hours into the shift. Was told I was "not just going to stand and watch  "..This was a first training shift, and I think the word they are not familiar with is called shadowing. The staff leger shows staff who have been fired and are still in the system under the call in schedule platform of the computer for reasons unknown, so the call in scheduling module is very confusing.  Was told there would be full staffing on the upper 7 floors and still had to make rounds on each floor because they do document and announce the fall risks and the current falls on each floor, which was totalled to be approximately 25-30 residents.  For one Nurse to take on a building of this magnitude with various conditions spread all around the building is not good, and borderline dangerous.  Go elsewhere if you can. 


 
The finance team offers no work-life balance, and employee feedback is disregarded. Management keeps piling on work, and there’s no room for objections. Whether you're clocking 60 hours or more, they only care about meeting deadlines.

While some finance teams might be more manageable, the Financial Reporting Team is the worst. It's a prime example of severe overwork, despite what the job listings say. They falsely advertise work-life balance, but in reality, there is none. Unless you're single with no outside responsibilities or family commitments, it's best to avoid this team altogether.
Benefits are poor and below the market. $600 only for any chiro/massages etc. 

I will only recommend the finance team if you are - Single, working 50/60 hours does not matter, okay taking more tasks and responsibilities without any increase in pay, okay not questioning higher up or accepting whatever is pushed on you. Please do not join this company if you are married / have kids. People working here postpone their kid plans because there is no time to raise a baby. 


The company itself stands on good values in wanting to provide the best possible care for the seniors who can afford to pay. Being for profit, each and every interaction the seniors have is charged for especially when it comes to medical care. Nurses can expect to be constantly on the move as there is ever only one nurse on duty for upwards of 170 pt. While not all may require treatment upwards of 60% require care, memory care floor alone should have its own nurse with the caliber of pt they allow to move in. Highly unsafe situations are quite common.  Work was a positive experience if you solely focus on the patients.  Original management was top tier and on call if required at hours, as that is what the job requires in certain situations. 24/7 staffing and care ensures situations requiring management attention may be needed outside of 9-4, Mon-Fri. New management changed the culture of the building and allowed for toxic and targeted bullying while allowing for improper training, staff conduct and continual med errors to occur.

It’s family oriented, with both staff and residents and residents family.

When we short staff, it can be really challenging at times.

The work place is a diverse culture, but we all embrace each other culture. Especially when there is culture holidays.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working morning shifts my first duty is briefing from the overnight team, then starting getting residents prepared for breakfast, in the process make sure rooms are put together. After all residents are in the dining room we serve breakfast. After breakfast we have Activities with residents, then serve lunch, after lunch by 2pm we then place residents in their respectable rooms for a hour sleep. Then I gather all my reports for the day on the system.
